Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Decent watch, I had it recorded(was recording entire series) without knowing it.

If he can drop the ego and stop trying to brawl with big punchers, realise his shortcomings and play to his strengths, he can go on and have a good career from here. I just dont think he can do that, he just will not drop the ego.

Even in that documentary hes talking about going on being GOAT etc. I mean its good to have confidence and ambitions, but he lets it get into his performance.

I hope the new coach works hard on his defence. He would be 1 tough fighter to beat if he stopped himself getting hit.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I know most people don't like Khan and he doesn't really have the british following that all the other brits do (maybe I'm wrong on that, obv I am not british) but I really enjoy watching him fight, always entertaining and love his speed. He does nothing but take tough or competitive fights and is always trying to put on a show. Obviously detracts from his actual "winning fights" skills but meh I think he gets too much hate. If he loses this fight somehow, which I highly doubt he will, his career is over though.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

He does get a lot of hate in this country. Mostly from racist bums if the truth be told.

They lost Ricky Hatton, a good English boy who drinks pints, eats pies and loves football. They got a Brittish Muslim with a weak chin.

Personally I love Khan, think in terms of boxing skills hes right up there with the best weve produced. Just wish he could use his brain more.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I dont buy that, (talking in general, not you specifically) if he was a golden white boy he would have been received far differently IMO.

There could be a dislike, yea fine, but in case of Khan a lot of people genuinely HATE him and love it when he gets KO'd.

Tons of other boxers have been hailed golden boys on back of Olympics and never got half the hate Khan gets. Lewis for example, he got hate in his younger days, and to a lesser extent still now, because he was Canadian, said by some to be milking the British fight fans.

I guess the next 4-5 years will prove a little about it to. Weve got a so called golden generation on its way into the pro game after a great Olympics. I wonder who gets hate from that crop, and what the excuse will be for it.

The Brits hate winners thing doesnt really go either, he finished 2nd at Olympics and has been destroyed twice to bad knockouts(did the Peterson fight get wiped from his record?). Hatton never lost a fight until Mayweather.

Any Americans heard of/seen any of Kal Yafai? Really enjoyed watching him fight so far, looks to have a great future.

Thats just painfully untrue.

Khan is disliked because hes a arrogant individual that thinks hes a lot better than he is, on a PR level, ive yet to see a fighter shoot himself in the foot as often as Khan has done.

Hes one of the most deluded fighters ive seen in the UK, he genuinely believes hes on a par with Mayweather and he has an excuse for every defeat hes had.

Khan's career is and will go down the pan soon enough because of his attitude, im afraid thats what happens when you have too many back slappers saying your great.

Hes been unable to clean up the 140 division and hes in for a world of hurt when he goes upto 147.

Kell Brook must be licking his lips waiting for Khan to move up.

Hopefully Brook takes Alexander's belt and it would not surprise me if Khan's deluded self will think he can move straight upto 147 and fight Brook for his title..

That really will end badly for Khan and his boxing career will get flushed down the pan along with his ego after that fight.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

fwiw I think there is some racism with attitudes towards him, but it's mostly that he comes across as likely being an arrogant dick.

You really can't compare with Hatton's extra fanbase / popularity etc though and say that proves anything. Look at how Froch has struggled for recognition over the years, and there is nothing scary or foreign about him. You can also look at how popular dear old Frank Bruno was (though I guess there wasn't the muslim/possible terrorist element there).

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I mean you make good points and I cannot disagree, he is all of those things you mentioned. But are you seriously trying to tell me that people are put off by an arrogant boxer?

Froch is the perfect example, that man is so arrogant its untrue! But there is rarely a boxer that isnt arrogant. Also since you mention Brook, hes another one thats super arrogant, yet hasnt beat anyone to speak of and has been run close by a 2nd rate fighter.

The numerous vile disgusted outbursts you hear in most pubs/clubs whenever hes on TV would all be down to his... arrogance?

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I can only go by what i read on boxing forums but a lot of pretty knowledgeable boxing posters basically say what i said above.

In Khan's early days he was liked by just about everyone and had the foundations in place for a pretty decent following throughout his career.

Sadly ... i think he and his camp just let it go totally to their heads and hes been blowing it ever since.

Even today ... he still talks like hes UK's best and most likeable and successful fighter ...

The problem with him is hes just not that bright sadly and tends to make the same mistakes more than once.

Everyone knows he does not have the best defence because he tries too damn hard to live upto the fighter he thinks he is .. and basically he keeps getting tagged.

If he was more humble and boxed to his strengths he could probably beat these guys fairly handedly on points or late stoppage.. but he just wants to look great all the time to back up his own words .

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Pretty much everything Ive previously said. I wish he was more modest and used his head in the ring, he would be damn hard to beat.

I think the reason Khan thinks that way(about being best/most liked in UK) is because he puts up the biggest numbers. That will change for sure over the next 5 years. But at this moment, even despite his defeats, he could still sell more tickets than Brook or any other British fighter(Hatton aside). Even Froch would struggle to match Khans box office numbers. Haye couldnt get close, not even if he fought a Klitschko. Unfortunately thats how the fight game is now, its all about who can pull in the numbers.

Im not expecting genuine fight fans to hate on him because hes a Muslim. But the casual fan in my experience definitely does.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

IIRC ... Khan's most recent fights have all been on Sky Sports so as long as we all have Sky we get to see the fight for free.

Im not sure if you put Khan on Box Office he would still get the numbers your talking about.

Froch is a different scenario .. hes never really had the limelight like Khan had and im pretty sure that grates Froch somewhat ... hence the verbal spats they have on twitter etc.

But Froch is having his limelight now ... allbeit a little late and a touch over the top if you ask me .. but Froch's ego is making the most of it and rightly so and this late stage of his career.

Froch will fight anyone and thats what fans like to see, but the Sky Sports hype job are going a little overboard with his Bute win and the less said about the Yusaf Mack the better.

I still think Calzaghe would have toyed with him for 12 rounds without much fuss in all honesty.
