This.

Most boxing fans aren't too fond of JCC and it sucks to see that on the night he got exposed, that 12th round gives them another reason to put him on my television. Scary stuff at the end...the size diff was ridiculous

Martinez completely owned the clown. I called it. But sucks JCC got a lucky shot in because he truly is a chump.

Viva Argentina.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I think that the rematch will happen unfortunately, the final round will make people forget about the first 11 and it will sell loads of ppvs. Martinez seems desperate for big paydays and I will presume he will get a bigger share this time. What else is there for him? Pac and Floyd wouldn't fight him, he's far too small to fight Ward at 168. Golovkin would be a fight I would love to see but he's not a big name. Alvarez or Cotto at a catch weight maybe but doubtful.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Canelo-Martinez is almost too perfect from a marketing standpoint.
Martinez-Golovkin is the most interesting.

Doubt Cotto would fight him, but it's a bigger chance than him fighting May/Pac and fighting Ward would be beyond stupid.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Canelo/Martinez would be awesome, but Canelo isn't going anywhere so long as he has that belt around his waist.

Rematch against Chavez is most likely because that's where the money is. Other than that, maybe Martinez fights Felix Sturm or Andy Lee. I find that unlikely though.

such bs martinez utterly dominated the first 11 rounds as predicted...then chavez lands a couple shots in the 12th and the entire narrative changes

Jr.s strategy almost worked, he broke Marvaillas hand with his face somewhere around the 4th according to DiBella.

Possibly, but he was getting pretty arm weary toward the end of the round and didn't have enough to finish Martinez then, and he was so far behind it still would have to be a knockout.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

i actually dont mind martinez accepting/wanting a rematch, even tho it's not much of a challenge for him. the guy deserves some large ppv purses, and jcc is where its at right now. sergio did all he could to make the fight entertaining when jcc didnt want to throw punches and even when he was nearly skullcrushed in the 12th.

if only genaddy had come to the u.s. sooner, maybe he'd have a larger following, and we'd get the perfect match.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

When Hatton comes back what weight should he fight at?

Saw him in an interview say that he sometimes get to 15st which is ridiculous and cruiserweight

If he gets weight drained and drops too low it will happen again

He has nothing to prove, had a great career. Stay retired

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

You cannot blame Hatton for fighting again especially after the manner of his Pacquiao defeat.

Nobody wants to end his career on such a note .. its bound to eat away at you because your a long time retired.

Hes going to come back as a Welterweight.. will fight someone like Ndou as a comeback fight and then look at a possible rematch with Malignaggi who just happens to be the easiest champion at 147.

This is what they will hype for the almost certain big money rematch. I think there's some merit to it. It's one thing to watch film of your opponent. It's something else entirely to face in real time, and with the painful biofeedback of repeated blows to your face and body, the extraordanary complexity, quickness, and power of the relentless Martinez attack for 12 rounds. Chavez will be going over and over it in his mind, thinking of little else until they fight again. He will be seeing the Martinez attack in his sleep in the coming weeks. Julio will dream Martinez moves, feints and punches.

Chavez needs to learn what to do against Martinez when he gets inside. That's supposed to be his territory. That's suppose to be how he gets to Martinez. Yet time after time all Chavez could do inside was cover up. Chavez might land a blow or two coming in but once there Martinez pummeled him with handspeed that seemed to baffle Chavez. Chavez looked like an ice sculpture inside, his hands frozen in defensive posture. Maybe Roach can arm Julio with some answers to the inside conundrum.

However, only Chavez can answer the conundrum of his conditioning. He simply did not have the energy to fight 12 rounds. He fought rounds 2,3 and 4 then looked absolutely spent in round 5. He caught a second wind and did his best work in round 6 but then had nothing left for rounds 7,8 and 9. After round 9 Roach told him he needed to show Freddie something. Chavez perked up a little in round 10. Finally he actually fought rounds 11 and 12.

The thing is, Chavez did damage in the rounds he fought. Martinez did more even in those rounds. But at least Chavez made a fight out it in rounds 2,3,4,6,11, and 12. So the really big rematch question is, can Chavez motivate himself to get into the kind of shape he needs to be in to make a fight out of the rematch for 12 full rounds? It would be nice if somebody, like Roach, could tell us the truth if Chavez can't or won't do that so we can save our money and skip it next time. If Chavez expects to earn the money we worked for I think he ought to be willing to work for it himself in training camp.

imo, Saturday night's Balls of Steel award goes to Lopez. I'd like to see him fight Maidana. He should get some kind of decent shot in his weight class after his balls out effort against the much bigger Alvarez.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Chavez is mentally weak and for some odd reason kept trying to throw head shots at a guy who is moving his head constantly when body punching is by far his best weapon. He landed more than twice as many head shots, which is just lol terrible. I mean he was getting hit in the face repeatedly so how much worse off would he have been to just unload to the body every chance he got?

It is Mitchell vs. Burns this weekend. I am a huge fan of Mitchell's and his win against Murray was a thrilling contest, but I wonder if he'll be well prepared enough and if Burns will be simply too professional for him.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

chavez had some power when he threw obviously but just didn't let his hands go..Roach was really spot on, he wouldn't throw at all when martinez threw with very few exceptions. for his part martinez was obviously completely outclassing him conditioning wise and did a really good job using his elbows to block some of the body shots from what I remember

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Chavez just seems to be riding on his father's name for cash imo. Just because you are the son of a great boxer doesn't mean you'll become one. See Marvis Frazier for an example of that.

He has absolutely no jab and no counter punching capabilities. All he can rely on is taking punches to the face while trying to throw body shots. Micky Ward did the same thing, but he had the heart to accept that fact and was willing to eat those shots to land a big body shot. Chavez seems to lack the heart and determination to successfully fight that way.

All we're going to see is more of the same in the rematch. Chavez has a puncher's face due to his power, but that's about it.

There's nobody else for them to fight. They've fought everybody worth fighting. At this point, any excuse is outright cowardice.
