i'm assuming broner didnt make weight?

btw does anyone else enjoy roy jones jr calling fights? he's got a speech problem from fighting, and some may knock him for that, but i like him paired with max/jim. it beats larry merchant's slow talk.
How could anyone not like Roy Jones, Jr. in the booth?! From a boxing standpoint he's one of the smartest and most knowledgable fighters to ever put on gloves. His insight into the sport when commentating is also on another level. He sees all the angles and predicts fights extremely well.

As to the fight tonight, Broner is going to clean out the division when he moves up. He's a rare talent.

Also, Keith Thurman has the potential to be a superstar. His power is fierce for the 147lb division. I'll be very excited to see him fight a big name.

Frankly .. Broner is a bloody disgrace !

I dont care how much talent this individual has ... he should have some respect for his fellow fighters and the fans.

You cannot just not be bothered to make the weight a couple of days before a fight ... hes suppose to be 130 lbs ffs ... yesterday he was 143 !

Thats 13 friggin pounds over !!

People are now bending over backwards to get him to fight at 140 lbs ... honestly this is ridiculous.

GBP are panicking ..but they should be tearing Broner a new backside for this.

Escobedo is put in a crappy situation here because Broner is being a idiot ... if he does not fight Broner at a bigger weight then he pi$$es GBP off and probably gets frozen out in the future.

It must be nice to be a marquee boxer who can get starving fighters to go along with whatever you want for the sake of a payday with you. With Broner's pull he should move all the way up to the heavyweight division fighting nothing but 118 pound guys. He could probably even find some boxing organization to give him a belt. Maybe a heavyweight title fight against Vic Darchinyan. Forget about de Marco's WBC lightweight title Adrien. He might have a touch too much power for you. If you must fight him, contract it for 126 lbs just to be safe.

Donaire had the heavier shots and won but not by that much.
just got caught up on the last 3 hbo cards thanks to on demand

completely agree with this, tough fight to score because of the contrasting styles (donaire landing way harder shots but getting outlanded almost every round by quite a bit) ..I thought Mathebula won at least 5 rounds and I had the same card as Lederman except I thought for sure Donaire won round 2 and lost 3 not the other way around...which woulda been Mathebula losing by 1. I could see him losing 5 rounds to 7 but I don't think any more.

Khan/Garcia was incredibly entertaining. Khan must be a huge douche outside of the ring (I don't really follow that) because I don't get how you can hate him inside, he always puts on a show and has some amazing hand speed. Just not the best strategy obviously

Broner fight was a sham of a fight obviously as was the undercard

Pavlik fight was somewhat decent, Pavlik has alot of work to do if he wants to get to the upper echelon of that division again though, not that impressive vs a guy like that imo

I also think having a good chin is something that just comes with time. It sounds weird, but I believe that developing a good chin begins with getting smashed in the face with haymaker after haymaker throughout your career and getting used to that pain. Khan doesn't seem like the type of guy that would go to war like Micky Ward or Erik Morales.
This is completely wrong. Some boxers are born with great chins, some mediocre and some weak chins.....also a huge a factor is how good of shape the figher is in. I don't look at guys like Floyd and Tim Bradley as having stand alone elite chins but they keep themselves in such amazing shape when they do get hit there recover time is so much faster.

Look at Lennox Lewis, when he was in shape he took some helicious shots and just stood there, when he was out of shape (like against Hasim Rahman, in there first fight) he got KTFO.

In here I reckon.

The only member of the British team I know much about is Anthony Joshua, the super-heavyweight. If he wins gold he can pretty much write his own cheque when he turns pro.

LOL, only boxer I know in the Olympics is Mary Spencer because she's featured in commercials in Canada.

never watched olympics or any amateur boxing, the scoring is different right? like more about punches landed and less about power? or maybe I'm wrong, I just thought I heard that

The round scoring system was changed to scoring based on punches when in 1988, Roy Jones Jr. got screwed out of a gold medal by corrupted Olympic judges.

thanks for the link I had never really seen that

I had heard of it as one of the WOAT decisions cuz my Dad always talked about it when we would watch boxing together. Still seems like punch based scoring is not at all the way to go IMO. If we had this in Prizefighting then Mathebula would have beat Nonaire like 10 rounds to 1 a month ago which clearly would have been unfair (Nonaire won a close fight...altho the judges had it really one sided for Nonaire)

pretty big upset on the FNF main card, entertaining fight

Hank Lundy (top ten 135 pounder) lost to Ray Beltran a 30+ year old with 6 losses

Beltran looked pretty decent though, fight could have gone either way, one judge had a draw and the other two had 96-94. Thought for sure judges were going the other way cuz the fight was in Lundy's hometown and he is the hot prospect

-1200 favorite too

I believe Beltran is Pacquiao's old sparring partner.

That robbery from Jones in 88 has to be the worst decision ever. Were the judges afraid that the South Koreans would lynch them if Jones got gold? LOL
