Not much really. WBO will order a rematch and Manny/Arum will LOL in their general direction and do what they want.

Maybe they decide to take the rematch (a clause for which Manny already had in his deal) and Manny will hand Bradley his ass again. Maybe Manny opts to do JMM IV on Nov. 10th. Who knows.

I'd be more convinced that Arum was in on the fix if the JMM fight happens. Manny is still Manny and Bradley is "the guy who beat Manny" and hopefully embarks on a nice, long career...for Top Rank.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

It's just such a bizarre conspiracy theory. Bradley is pure aids for drawing fans. He's a scrappy fighter with heart but he has no power at all.

I can't imagine Bradley being the top name on a PPV card even with his bogus win over Manny on his record. Nobody who is into boxing enough to buy a PPV fight actually thinks Bradley won. I think Bradley would have been better off with a close unanimous decision loss to Manny but his bogus win actually hurts him.

I think the judges were just incompetent and had a bad night scoring the fight.

It's a similar story to the Cuban Felix Savon who could have been fighting in the era of Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis and Bowe.

Savon, Stevenson and Lazlo Pap are the only boxers to win three gold medals. But if Guillermo Rigondeaux hadn't managed to defect then he would almost certainly have three at this point and would be the heavy favourite to win gold in London.
Damn, how did I miss this?

In the '70s Stevenson was almost as famous in the US as Alexeev. One of the great what if's, had he defected after the '72 or '76 Olys.

I always thought he had far more pro potential than Savon. That said, he did lose to Duane Bobick in the '71 Pan Am games, and according to wiki twice lost to Soviet Igor Vysotsky, once by KO in '76. Had Igor have been injured, Teo would've been an alternate in '76, so who knows.

Larry Holmes is three years older than Teo. 70's were just a sick era for hvywts, guys like Earnie Shavers & Ron Lyle could've been champs in other eras.

RIP

It's pretty obv. this, but that scoring was SO bad I think it's natural to try and find some way to believe it's fixed.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Im going off boxing slowly ..

I wish the sport would do a lot more to clean its act up ..money talks i suppose

Far far too many fighters seem to be on the juice, its hard nowadays to know whos actually legit.

Did Chavez Jnr put on 20 pounds after the weigh in recently and just refused to take a drugs test afterwoods ??

How is that even possibly been allowed to happen without any retribution at all ?

It does seem there has been a few failed tests lately so maybe something is slowly being done but its nowhere near enough.

I would also go back to having the weigh in on the day of the fight.

Chavez Jr. took the urine test before the fight. But he has been caught using PEDs before so it wouldn't surprise me if he still using.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Just watched the ortiz lopez fight on youtube, great fight probably best of the year so far that I have seen my a fair margin. Very tough fight to score, I think I had Ortiz up by 3 rounds but I could see a lot of different scores. Didn't like the reffing at all, should have taken a point from Ortiz for punch in back of the head and should have stepped in way more. Not sure what to think of Ortiz, sure seems like he doesn't have what it takes. I hate to say that with such a small sample size but his post fight interviews just seem like he doesn't care enough. I can't see any other fighter acting like he did after the Floyd fight, any self respecting boxer would call out the bs and he didn't do anything but compliment Floyd not to mention putting himself in that position in the first place. Such a shame because he is entertaining as hell maybe even the most entertaining boxer right now. He clearly had something wrong with him for a few rounds, his trainer and him had a whispered conversation after like the 6th or 7th and he didn't look into it. But he still fought a ruthless fight can't take that away from him

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

You know he quit in the ring once before and only saved his career by getting fight of the year with berto

That said I like him and he is fun to watch but still has some maturing to do as a fighter

Ortiz would be a ideal opponent for Kell Brook in terms of style and exposure.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Yea I realize the maidina fight was an embarrassment too. He is odd because he is super dirty but also really nice to people outside the fights if you know what I mean. I am rooting for him because he is from garden city Kansas which is relatively close to Kansas city and we don't get many fighters but I think he is out of the sport within three years

I saw the Soto vs Matthysse fight. If I were Amir Khan, I'd be giving Matthysse a very wide berth indeed.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I don't really get why people are complaining about Victor Ortiz, it was a great fight but he had an injury and retired. Does it prove that he's not the toughest boxer ever? Of course but he's still really fun to watch.

I felt Lucas Matthysse's punches through my monitor, that guy's punches sound HEAVY.

I hope Khan wins his next fight against Garcia .. if only to shut up Garcia's loud mouth father !!

The problem is ... Khan is going to be well and truly found out at 147 ... the heavier hitters and going to have a field day with him.

I'm not hating on him, the only reason people really are is because of what happened before, but I agree this is totally different, there is no way I'd continue a fight with a world class boxer either if my jaw was broken to the point I could shut my mouth.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Yeah I know, I wasn't really talking about you. I've seen a couple of boxing writers suggest that they don't want to see him get a TV fight again.

Ortiz could have easily disguised the fact that he had had enough and found some other exit from the fight but he didn't. Just like in the Maidana fight he was honest and just said that he didn't want to fight any more. Zab Judah against Amir Khan and Anthony Peterson against Brandon Rios are a couple of more creative ways of quitting.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Victor is getting a lot of hate because of his past history. I can't really blame him for this one though. X-rays showed he fractured his jaw in two places. The first fracture came in the 5th round. He said that he couldn't shut his mouth so he had close his mouth by holding his gloves underneath his chin and when he would throw a punch, his mouth would just drop. Second fracture came in the 9th and he had internal bleeding which is why he was spitting out thick blood.

One thing about Victor Ortiz is, he always puts on an entertaining fight. Can't wait to watch him again. He's going to exercise the rematch clause against Lopez.

i believe i had the dvr set to record the fight, and it didn't catch. it's not on hbo at all this week, and still isn't available on demand. i'm looking forward to it after reading the last half page worth of posts, though.
