Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I missed the fight on Saturday because I was at my parents' 25th anniversary dinner dance shindig. I watched it today after Croatia-Ireland. I'm speechless.

All my hard work in the OP, it's going down the drain

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Just watched the fight again, this time in HD for extra clarity

Here is my card:

The most difficult round to score for me was round 1 where I had Bradley winning clearly until the last 25 seconds when Manny had 3 big shots but not enough to turn it around for me. I can see a lot of people giving it to manny

The rest were not too hard to score except round 9 which could hav gone either way but I gave it even

It was closer than I originally thought

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

A couple of boxing writers who have re-watched have said that if you are giving every close round to Bradley then you can maybe give him six.

A guy on Twitter who collates scores of writers had this:

248 manny
10 bradley
7 draw

So maybe it is just about possible to score it for Bradley and Pacquiao just got unlucky that 2 of the 5% just happened to be scoring at ringside. This could have easily happened in the Mayweather vs Cotto fight, I saw a few scorcards of 114-114 and 115-113 to Cotto that people were giving, I thought they were crazy but luckily (imo) the judges got it right on that occasion.

Regardless of this fight, if you're in you're in 80s then you should not be judging boxing matches, particularly at this level. Once you reach that age the concentration level just goes down.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Your scorecard is reasonable, but the final score makes it seem the fight was a lot closer than it actually was. Pacquiao clearly won about 8 rounds. The rounds that could have been given to Bradley, could have been scored even or to Pacquiao. IMO, Bradley did not win one round clearly.

In regards to the first round, Bradley was more busy, but he did not land anything significant. Pac's 3 big shots did much more damage than anything Bradley did in that round. In fact, I don't remember Bradley ever hitting Pacquiao with anything that hurt/stunned him in the entire fight. I'll have to rematch it.

Skip Bayless brought this up on First Take this morning. He said that's the only straw he can grasp at to give the judges some kind of out from it being rigged. That the judges were just pissed and decided to "teach pac-man a lesson" so they gave every toss-up round to Bradley.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

or the judges are just incompetent idiots who don't know what they're watching
and too them looked like bradley was the busier fighter

more likely its just fixed tho its boxing

Yea this is all true..I think Bradley won nine but that only clear round imo. Like I posted earlier if u gave every single non obvious round to Bradley I could see a draw but a bunch of thoose rounds were not coinflips at all Manny did enough to win..

By the waythe judges were 71 and 74 not 81 and 84 whoever said that. At least according to this espn article http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id...acquiao-lesson

Point still stands obviously

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

The "judges with an axe to grind" theory doesnt seem to fit. Both Ford and Roth have scored Pacquiao fights before including Pac-JMM II. In that fight, Roth (who favored Pac 115-113 on Saturday night) scored teh fight 116-112 JMM and Ford did the opposite. In other Pacquiao fights they have scored Manny winning wide all times.

I guess my point is, nothing about this makes sense.

One of the judges talks in that link. I'm curious if someone you guys with footage could go back and look for the things he says he saw after round 6.
There was an article on HBO's site where a writer rewatched the fight and said the standout round was the 7th where he says Pac wins the round AINEC yet all three judges scored for Bradley.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Yup that was round where Manny landed 27 punches to Bradley's 11. Its why I get so heated when I read the narrative that Manny didn't do anything after the sixth. Anyone who thinks that is an imbecile Burt I keep reading that he stopped after first six rounds. Infuriating. Anyone giving Bradley round five and seven should be banned from the sport

Bradley really controlled the fight from beginning to end with his leading jab. Manny could never get past it.

Bradley's jab was just sort of put out there. Clearly wasn't really even trying to hit Paq with it.

Pacquiao landed more jabs than Bradley did.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

http://compuboxonline.com/pacquaios-...ute-by-minute/

somewhat interesting info here, manny landed about half his punches in the last minute so they are speculating that he maybe created the impression that he was behind in rounds. I don't really put much stock into it since the popular boxing narrative is actually the opposite, that people win rounds in the last minute because its remembered by the judges better so I think people would just use this as an excuse either way the numbers came out. Plus its kind of useless without seeing Bradley's numbers

But the old judges had dozed off and missed the last minute of each round. They were re-awakened by the bell at the start of each round.

I liked your card. a cpl notes, though...

I had Manny winning round 1 (very close tho, as u state above) just bc Brad didn't land anything worth talking about, and Manny had some very clean shots.

I did think Bradley won round 8, w/ a combination of him controlling the pace for much of the round and and Pac doing a lot of retreating. It was as if Pac was purposely taking off 2/3's of the round.

Also thought round 9 was Brad's best punching round (not sure if the stats will agree, haven't looked) up to that point. (basically good clean shots that weren't blocked, and landed some flush stuff) Problem is, Manny also landed some good shots to counter Bradley's finest stuff to that point. So I'm fine with a split (10/10) but wouldn't be mad about Brad getting the 10/9 there.

For all of Manny's stiff left straights to Brad's face, it didn't look like he took much of a beating afterwards. I mean, the guy was wobbled 2-4x, and looked like he was going to go down, but you couldn't tell by looking at him when it was over.

there is a big list of about 50 mediaheads and their scores...3 people scored it for bradley and they are relatively big names in thomas hauser, bart barry and bryan kenny. I wish they would write an article or rewatch the fight and judge it again and post their thoughts cuz i really want to see the rationale

i just will never understand how some of them can say with a straight face that rounds like 5 and 7 "could have gone either way"

can't wait till the fight replays next on saturday and its on hbo on demand so I can rewatch...and everyone with HBOgo will be able to i assume

As I said earlier ITT. Bryan Kenney was doing the international feed and was saying the entire fight how close it was and how he had Bradley winning. I kind of thought it was to keep people interested, but apparently he actually thought it.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

one thing im definitely gonna do when it gets on On demand is to try to count up the numbers for each round to see if the compubox is remotely accurate..the only real argument from the bradley side is that the compubox numbers aren't accurate at all. Obviously they are not perfect but i expect them to be pretty close since even people without that knowledge overwhelmingly gave the fight to manny
