Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

pac won't because he's backtracked so many times. saying he will fight him at 150, then sergio agrees, then he changes it to 147 etc.

Mayweather said "ye i'll fight him at 150" but i don't believe a word he says. Action speaks louder than words for both these fellas, and i just don't think either would take Martinez on. Mayweather is slightly more likely since hes going to be, possibly, campaigning at 154.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

not only about money for pac or may. it's about not losing.

lets hope, but i won't have high hopes for it. i think it's almost booked already that floyd fights canelo and pac fights peterson (if he beats khan again) or jmm.

Martinez is only going to lose to himself at this point in time. He's at the age where it will happen sooner or later. His power is still there though and his stamina is amazing. Not too often you get to see late round knockouts.

Hopefully he doesn't pull a Roy Jones Jr. and fade out. He's had a great career even though he started late.

Props to Macklin too. Sergio wasn't taking the fight seriously so this was definitely a wake-up call.

he said he had Martinez 6-7 points up going into the 11th.

yes he (Martin Murray another British MW, no i've never heard of him either) came across a bit jealous at the end.

after the 7th i had Macklin 2 up thanks to the slip (scored as a knock down), he lost 8-9-10 putting him 1 point behind.

not a lot ******ed about that, but 6-7 points behind......

no, he said something like "when it was stopped? with the 10-7?"

he may be anti-mackling though. he said macklin-sturm decision was correct. i strongly disagree.

murray is quite good though. had a good fight with sturm for a (lol) wba title.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

i think mack won rounds 3, 4, and the 10-8 round. maybe a 10-10 or two in there. puts martinez at least 3 or 4 up going into the 11th

I had Martinez by 3. The Martinez knockdown was a knockdown but still questionable. Martinez didn't really complain though. If your hand hits the mat it sucks, but it's still part of game. Kind of like what happened to Clottey when he fought Cotto.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

you had it even going into the 11th? or did you have martinez by 3 + the 10-7? = 6.

my problem with the KD is macklin tripped him. glove in mat = kd, np. but it shouldve been ruled a trip?

I had it Martinez +3 going into the 11th so Martinez by 6 with the 10-7. I can see the argument for calling it a trip but the right hand was still pretty clean (which happened before the leg assist) so to me it's a knockdown. It sucks but it is what it is. I also don't think it was intentional so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Trip or no trip. It being called a KD lit a fire under SM's butt. He took over after that.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

^ kind of similar to pac vs. mosley.

it's unfortunate these guys (floyd, pac, sergio) doesn't feel challenged enough to come 100% motivated to fight. it probably takes for them to fight someone they are not -500 to -1500 to beat.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I really like the look of Kell Brook ..

The guy has hardly got out of second gear in his career so far and who knows how good he could become.

Really hoping he gets a quality opponent in the summer to see how he fares.. its not like there are no decent fighters at WW

I think Amir Khan would be making a huge mistake if he chooses to fight this guy if and when he moves upto 147.

Khan probably spent all day praying that Matthew Hatton would win, that would be an ideal first fight at 147 for him.

All three judges had Macklin ahead going into the 11th, two by 1 point and Julie Letterman by 3. Assuming she gave the 8th, 9th, and 10th to Martinez she must have had Macklin up by 6 points after the 7th. And the other two judges must have disagreed with her on just one of the earlier rounds. Martinez needed 2 knockdowns in the last two rounds to get a unanimous decision. Maybe boxing should go to lighter gloves so the fighters can determine the fight's outcome rather than the judges.

I'd really like to see Martinez vs Mayweather at 154.

Actually, two of the judges had Martinez 1 point up going into the 11th. And Julie Lederman gave the 8th to Macklin:

Thanks for that correction. I was going on memory of the scores they quickly flashed after the fight. I thought they showed Martinez up by 2 on the Ortiz and Trella cards and even on the Lederman after the 11th. I was sort of hoping to either get confirmation or correction here so glad to see the actual cards.

The Ortiz and Trella cards look ok to me. So Lederman gave the 1st and 8th to Macklin which accounts for the 4 point difference. I can see the 1st which I thought was really a 10-10 round. I can't see giving the 8th to Macklin. What's bs imo is that the decision can turn on such small differences. Also, giving an automatic 10-8 for a bs trip knockdown in a round Martinez otherwise won while only giving 10-9 scores in the 9th and 10th when Martinez was doing serious damage to Macklin. That those two rounds together carry the same weight scoring as the 7th and individually the same weight as the 1st is bs imo.

"Don't let it go to the judges" is even more true in boxing than in MMA.

I've never liked the automatic 10-8 for a knock-down thinking (it's not a rule in case any one was wondering).
