Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Chisora pushed him. Haye doesn't fight like that. He can't put the pressure on Vitali to make him look as "bad" as Chisora did. (which is funny since he cruised to a decision more or less)
Also Haye is much less durable than Chisora.

I think Haye beats Chisora. But it's the only hw fight i care about anymore.

A good night in Germany in July would be a Haye v Vitali and Chisora v Povetkin...

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Wladimir Klitschko was an absolute embarrassment last night. Holding on like a little ***** whenever Mormeck got near him. Are there any Germans in this thread who can tell me why 50,000 people turn up to watch this joker?

He wasn't. Are you really defending Wlad here? He holds like a ***** in most of his fights. He's been known as Wladimir Clinchko for years.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Yeah im defending him. Mormeck ducked really low when he tried to get in. The other times was when he was under pressure and tried to survive.
Wlad can't fight on the inside so he needs to push him off or clinch. He tried to get a finish (for once, which hes usually criticized for not doing, ironically).

Lennox did the same thing because he too is quite inapt on the inside. He's much better than Wlad but it still rings true.
He also leaned on smaller fighters who tried to duck and get in. Against Tyson (the fight was mentioned earlier) to a large degree.

Wlad wasn't pathetic. He tried to knock the guy out using the abilities he has. He succeeded.
The matchmaking itself is what's pathetic, but then again, who else is out there? Helenius, Fury and Povetkin does not (or at least didn't) want the fight "yet".

Comparing Lewis to Klitschko on the subject of holding is like comparing Carlos Baldomir to Floyd Mayweather when it comes to handspeed. Lewis actually did a lot of punching when he was involved in clinches. Anyway if Lewis was fighting a 39 year old, 5ft 11 boxer whose best win in the last 5 years was a split decision over Timur Ibragimov he wouldn't need to hold because he would have probably finished it quite early in the first round.

Have a look at the boxrec rankings for heavyweight:

http://boxrec.com/ratings.php?sex=m&...on=Heavyweight

It looks like Mormeck is a new entry at number 15 since the fight last night. wtf?

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

i agree with Kinfofcool, Lewis fought in the same style as the Klitzkos (avoid fighting at all costs), obv he was better but still not very exciting.

i couldn't stand him and his side of the mouth gangster chat.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

No it's not like comparing Baldomir with Mayweather. Lewis was criticized for it lots of times. And he took the leaning on opponents to another level.
Lewis was actually seen as a really boring fighter, but history seems to have changed that perception. As is usually the case i guess.

Lewis is a much much better fighter than Wlad. I'm just comparing certain aspects of their fighting style. I very much appreciate Lewis more.

Mormeck was inactive on boxrec rankings as he had not fought for >12 months. He was between 10-20 before he became inactive by default.

Pathetic list really. On the top10 that hasn't been crushed yet by either Klitschko is three guys who don't want to fight them "yet" and Pulev who is crap to be honest.

Arreola is somewhat rebuilt so i want to see him vs. Wladimir next.

Solis needs to get in shape so he can have a fight against either Brother. I think he can put up a fight.

Povetkin needs to man up. Fury needs to not suck. Helenius needs to prove the Chisora fiasco was due to an injury.

Meh. Vitali vs. Haye then retire i guess.
Wladimir can crush Arreola or Chisora. Then have Haye vs. Chisora. Or have them fight this summer. No idea.

Thank god for the smaller guys.

Vitali actually isn't safety-first, unfortunately for him his brother is one of the most safety-first champions of all time and for some reason people can never talk about them separately so Vitali is kind of guilty by association.

King of cool, Yes Lewis was called boring but Wladimir is on a whole other level when it comes to boringness. I can name loads of entertaining Lewis fights, even when he was dominating lesser opposition it was often still fun to watch. How many entertaining Wlad fights are there?

David Price is good enough that Mick Hennesey and Tyson Fury ran like little girls from the prospect of fighting him. Apparently his chin isn't great but I guess time will tell.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Re Lewis - he was involved in some dull fights but I never really thought of him as boring overall. He wasn't explosive, but did have power and ooozed class. He would fight however he thought would maximise his chances though, as Vlad does, without easily getting drawn into a brawl. When he fought Tuna he basically jabbed and moved/ran the whole fight to get a point win. fwiw I think Vlad fights the way that best suits him and I wouldn't blame him. Vilali is a warrior though and wants a fight.

Re David Price. He sure looked chinny when losing in the Olympics, and he does have that reputation is seems for other events I'm not aware of (sparring?). Anyway, I've not taken his seriously as a pro for that reason, in terms of getting to the top, but he has made mincemeat of awkward opponents so far. His power is really something and he may have a chance of being decent.

tilted on 5dimes last night and put a decent wager in on the midnight telefutura fight not knowing anything about either fighter. 1st round TKO I found out the next morning, winner winner chicken dinner

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Why is he your favourite fighter ?

Was half decent in his prime ... but a nutcase outside the ring .

Coming back at 34 seems like a mad idea ... smacks of desperation and the fact hes probably skint.

Good luck to him though ... although i fear it will be sad to see how much hes fallen since his prime days.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Jos,

Seriously tho. Tough Question

During my lifetime I never got more excited about a fight than when I was watchin a young Mike Tyson knocking people the **** out. He was just ferocious....

I loved RJJ too but he fought on too long, same with Holyfield. Others I liked Manny, PBF, Calzaghe, Nigel Benn, Lennox, M.A Barrera, De la Hoya, Hopkins....

In all time terms the obvious Sugar Rays + Ali but I havn't seen enough footage of all the old boys too say decisively.

I heard that Joe Louis was special

Cosign. Subtract the K Bros from the division and some evidently believe the heavyweight division becomes exciting. Seeing Povetkin go life and death vs cruiserweight titlist Huck may have been entertaining but it showcases his lack of talent. Before the K Bros we had 'competitive title fights' involving some of the most boring heavyweights ever to lace on gloves. Byrd and Ruiz anyone?

No thanks.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I really wish people would stop talking about the brothers as if there are one person. Wlad is the boring one, no one should have a problem with Vitali.

Vitali must hate Wlad for this reason. He brings shame upon the Klitschko name.

One good thing about not having one (or two) extremely dominant champions is that we will no longer get fighters turning up for the payday and not really trying as we have seen many times over the last few years.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Dont get me started on Tyson please ...

Ive had more arguments defending this guy until im blue in the face than any other fighter.

He is without doubt my favourite fighter of all time ...hes still most of the most interesting characters going ..

I will say it again ... the Tyson that turned up against Spinks that night would have demolished just about any other heavyweight that has gotten into a ring.

It grates me no end when people hold the likes of Lewis and Holyfield above him ... because quite frankly ... the Tyson that fought Spinks would have done the same to both of them.

The sad fact is ... Tyson never fulfilled his potential, he was basically fed to the dogs at a young age and he just lost everything..basically a top of the range piece of meat fed to the vultures.

Its sad what happened to RJJ, a lot of people only saw a pale imitation of what he was really like..

In his day, he was true elite .. he took the mic out of a prime Hopkins, something Hopkins never truly got over and even the silly rematch years on did not make up for it.

He also took the mic out of James Toney, Toney was something like 45/0 and feared by everyone but Jones dismantled him over 12 rounds ... even Nigel Benn stayed away from James Toney.

Up until he lost to Tarver he had lost once in 14 years or so and that was by DS, he then knocked the guy out in a rematch in a round.

Ignore the post Tarver RJJ, because in his prime there was no equal..

Leonard is another great .. i still remember his fight against Donny Lalonde .. possibly the sickest demolition of a bigger guy i can remember.

Out of the recent fighters .. only PBF makes me think is elite, but hes just too good and makes his opponents look worse than they are, if the Pacman fight ever took place there would only be one winner.

Calzaghe could have been greater ( and im welsh ) but he took too long fighting in his own backyard and only fought big names late in his and their careers, so there will always be a question mark over Calazghe imo.... shame really because he was pretty damn decent.

Re all this Tyson talk.... buster Douglas had all the physical tools to be up there with him. Too bad he didn't care or have the heart most of his career. Was a nice guy and got paid tho
