agreed about McAllister, he had enough and quit.

also agree about Cleverly, i turned it off after the 6th or 7th round - boring boring fight.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I love the way the german's are trying to be big in boxing ...with all these over the top fight nights.

The only problem is ... they dont have that many ( if any ) decent german fighters .. so they have to nick fighters from anywhere ( mainly Russia ) and tout them as their very own ..

Pretty lame really ..

Last night they where making out Huck is the next big German thing ... the guy is not even German ... hes from Serbia !

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Broner looked more like the second coming of Floyd Mayweather Jr last night than Donaire looked like the next Pacquiao in his last fight. I'd like to see Broner move up to fight Marquez at lightweight asap before Marquez gets much older.

It looks like moving up to welterweight really made a difference for Alexander. That's the pot of gold division and he looked like a serious contender last night. Fun to watch too.

I think Marquez's next fight will be at least at 140, I think he might be done at lightweight.

I never knew the Freddie Roach eyeball story until I watched ON: Freddie Roach this week.

Great series btw, definite must watch if you have HBO. I assume they are all on demand still but if not they are all online on HBO GO (as well as a bunch of other good boxing ****).

Yeah, I thought the whole series was pretty well done. It seems like the Wild Card is just crazy busy all the time with so many people coming and going. Makes you wonder how they get anything done.

Roach seems to be pretty lonely though even though he has so many supporters/fans. He also treats his assistant/ex girlfriend really bad. You'd think they'd have a good relationship since he hired her to do that job despite being an ex.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

On an unrelated note, what do you guys think about Mayweather v. Cotto?

On paper PBF has a pretty big advantage based on Cotto's style, but something just feels weird about it. Cotto's last few fights have been a huge improvement since he got dominated by Pac. Obv. Floyd's speed will limit Cotto but I'm not yet sold on Floyd being such a huge favorite (although I think he wins). I checked this morning and Floyd is -833 to win.

Thoughts?

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

best bet in my opinion is floyd by decision. Think it was a +money.

The way Floyd fights nowadays hes just not looking to crush guys. Hes very content with cruising to a 120-108 decision.
Cotto has power but hes too slow, mostly with his feet, to really catch Floyd. Maybe with a perfect livershot, but that's unlikely the way Floyd guards himself.

He could have some success with his jab, steal some rounds, but i think Floyd won't let him get away with much of it. He's got the speed to really punish him even when Cotto gets off first.
Don't know how Cotto can win this to be honest. Maybe bully Floyd against the ropes and try to do a little of JLC work in, but i doubt it.

I sure as hell hope Cotto wins though.
More intrigued by Bradley vs. Pac.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Yeah, I agree with all of that. Cotto's speed will be a let down.

I'm really scared for Mosley v. Canelo too. Canelo has the potential to knock Mosley into the month of June. You've gotta respect Mosley for taking a fight like this at his age but he could (and probably will) get murdered.

I was dissapointed we didn't get to see how Mayweather would have stood up in the later rounds if Ortiz had been able to step up his rush and press against the ropes tactic. I thought Ortiz was finding some success with the tactic when he was able to execute it - although Mayweather certainly didn't make it easy for him and dealt a lot of punishment keeping most of the fight in the middle of the ring. At 154 the bigger, stronger Cotto might well execute this tactic effectively and wear Mayweather down over 12 rounds. Otherwise Cotto gets pummeled in the middle of the ring. I just hope it doesn't turn into another Mayweather-Marquez type fight where Cotto can't catch him and Mayweather makes him look like his feet are in quick sand.

Mayweather will cruise to a win over Cotto.

As stated above .. Cotto is just too slow to cause Mayweather any problems and just too easy to hit.

Late stoppage or another landslide points decision for Mayweather.

The best thing about the Freddie Roach doc for me (I've only watched the first 2) is the lack of narration. I am sick of hearing the pretentious nonsense they give us on 24/7.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Two things made me laugh about this:

1 Frank Warren getting all irrate about it, demanding a hearing etc (it was several incidents all on caught on camera Frank)

2 The WBC getting high and mightly and referring to grand old traditions etc, given their history.

I guess it doesn't really matter as it's only one organisation. What is more interesting is what the UK Board of Control do. Too long a ban and he'll just go elsewhere and fight I guess so I'd guess 1-2 years or something like that.

How can you hate on Froch? His last 8 fights: Pascal; Taylor; Dirrell; Kessler; Abraham; Johnson; Ward & now Bute. That's ridiculous.

Froch can be quite unlikable, but if every fighter did like he does the sport would be much better off. I think its possible hes fought the toughest stretch of opponents out of anyone these past years.

Is the fight confirmed? Would be surprised to hear bute fighting in england.

This is true ...

Considering hes not that good ... hes had a pretty decent run of fights ... hes game but pretty one-dimensional.

Calzaghe would have toyed with him over 12 rounds.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Calzaghe would've beaten him, but he's a lot better than he looks.

His fight with Kessler despite losing stands out as his best in my opinion. Kessler is no joke. Froch is in my opinion the second best (since i assume Kessler has become worse) at 168 until Bute can disprove it.

I disliked Froch quite a bit before and during the early super6. He just looks so unnatural and nonathletic and came off as kind of a tool for calling out a retired cokehead.. But i really respect his attitude towards fighting the best and he has really done a great job with the limited "gifts" he has. A fine fighter.

If Bute comes to England and fights Froch then my respect for him will go up massively. It shows that he is a real fighter, he could easily continue fighting easy opposition in front of large crowds in Canada instead.
