I guess it depends on whether you could say that the bookmakers have been financially defrauded. Not sure really, but you'd think it would be against the rules of the sport at least even if it is hard to put in the rules (I mean, there is nothing wrong with coasting in boxing).

The ESB news site is as good as the message board and easily accessible. Lots of traffic, many stories get 500+ comments discussing one fight or boxer.

Wow what a KO. Early still but this could be KO of the year. I played w/ Gonzalez's manager at the WSOP a few years back. An old school dude who was very high on Gonzalez's chances, he seemed to expect he'd become a big star like Oscar D. Guess that didn't work.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Just got around to watching the Haye Chisoro confrontation on youtube, pretty sad state of affairs for heavyweight boxing when a 15 second scap at a press conference is more interesting/entertaining than 99% of the fights for the past few years or foreseeable future.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Not a boxing expert but I know there are some knowledgable boxing posters on 2+2, where would the Klitschko brothers rank amongst the best heavyweights ever (in their prime)? Is VItali or Wlad better? As I've pretty much heard for the last 5 years is the Klitschkos are boring and killing the HW division

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

it depends what you mean with better and how that would be structured.

Is better = proven result?
Is better = potential?
Is better = ability in their prime?

There's also style differences that complicate things. Fighter A could beat B that could beat C that would beat A. etc.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Anyone watching the Marcos Maidana v. Devon Alexander fight tonight on HBO?

Vegas has Alexander as a slight favorite but there could easily be an upset due to Maidana's power. Alexander does not want to go toe to toe with him...

Ultimately though I think it was a bad decision for Maidana to take a fight in St. Louis (Alexander's home town). Alexander's last fight in St. Louis resulted in Lucas Matthysse of Argentina getting absolutely robbed due to hometown judging. Matthysse dropped Alexander in the 4th and dominated most of the fight with hard blows. Maidana's probably going to need a KO to win the fight and I was not impressed that he couldn't put Erik Morales away late in the fight.....

Yeah, Devon has looked anything but stellar lately and Maidana is a tough SOB. I fully expect it to be a shady win for DA.

Line is -175 now. Ha

Aye the Sweaty looks properly outclassed here. It's no disgrace getting duffed up by this fella though, he looks good.

Alexander looked good in round 1. Quick punches and footwork.

Maidana can only win this fight with a KO. Pretty obvious already.

Well, excellent fight by Alexander. I had him winning every round. Huge improvement from his previous fights. His quickness was great and power was on par. Shame he couldn't knock him out in the 8th when Maidana was hurt. I also thought that Maidana was knocked down in the 6th (despite the ruling).

Maidana just looked bad. Never really was a threat and his power just looked to be gone. Good fight overall.

I always respected Maidana after making Ortiz quit in the ring in such a gnarly fight, wished he would do better.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

huck beat povetkin in my opinion. povetkin should have just gone for it with klitschko, hes deteriorating rather than getting better.

broner is very impressive. hes a new p4p guy. as an athlete hes got everything going for him, but hes about as unlikable as humanly possible.
i don't mind people being weirdos or d-bags. but they need to be interesting or charismatic. Broner is neither and just comes off as lame as ****.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Some decent boxing last night.

McAllister seemed to quit for me, he was getting beat badly and just quit by blaming a hand injury .. pretty poor really.

I thought Cleverly's fight was quite boring, a pretty straight forward win without having to do too much.

Povetkin v Huck was brilliant for a heavyweight fight ... mainly for all the wrong reasons ..

Povetkin was awful imo ... he was blowing after 2 rounds and i felt Huck could have nicked that with a home decision ... how one judge gave it by four rounds to Povetkin ill never know.

Povetkin would be destroyed by both Klitchko's, Haye and even Chisora ... the next big thing ?? .. i think not.

Have not seen the Maidana fight yet, but Maidana is a one trick pony for me and im not at all surprised Alexander made him look silly.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

How annoying was Povetkin's constant ducking whenever Huck landed a clean shot?? Great fight apart from that. The Sauerlands obviously invited Derreck Chisora to the fight for a reason, Chisora vs Povetkin next? Or Povetkin vs Helenius, Huck rematch? No way he fights one of the Klitschkos imo.
