I fkn hope cotto pulls a rabbit outta his ass and beats mayweather.

I've been spending my time between fights I give a **** about by watching old fights on YouTube. Been trying to watch and download all of the "Fight of the Year" fights.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

just been watching Scott Quigg v Jamie Arthur. Quigg was getting well on top, caught Arthur with a good body shot making Arthur turn in a full circle - ref stepped in for the stoppage.

one the weirder decisions i've seen, ref blundered.

shambles.

Best card of the year so far. Magomed “Mago” Abdusalamov upped his record to 13-0, 13 KOs and is a heavyweight to watch. Dude has heavy hands.

IMO the Cuban Rances "Kid Blast" Barthelemy stole the show by beating fellow undefeated prospect Williams who was a highly touted amateur. Barthelemy is a top prospect at 130 lb and I'm now on his bandwagon. I like long and lean punchers. Dude is 5-11 fighting at jr lightweight, reminded me in ways of Chico Corrales (RIP).

WORD. I know Vazquez Jr and Rubio were brought in as the B Side to lose but both are live underdogs. Interesting we've got two sons of boxers who were legendary in the '90s. Chavez Jr everyone knows but Wilfredo Vazquez Sr was one of the best featherweight champs in the early 90s. If Donaire parks WV2 it's a big statement in a new weight division, this kid's no joke.

Vanes won easily. Do people even follow this guy much? If he wasn't from my hometown, i'm not so sure I'd even know who he is.

That judge is disgraceful. He should never judge again.

Vazquez won like 2-3 rounds. Ban that judge. Donaire banked a W but I don't think the PFP buzz he's garnered is justified. His face gets busted up by guys who shouldn't put their hands on him.

I strongly disagree, if you turn your back then you are basically saying "I don't want to fight any more". Remember, the referee's job is to stop the fight when a boxer can longer defend himself.

I'm glad Quigg won, it's building nicely to a showdown with Frampton.

anyone else lol'd at Bob Arum's comment about jcc JR wanting to take on Martinez after he has fought Andy Lee and Margarito?
The man really has no shame.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I feel sorry for Martinez, it would be a stupid move if any of the big money makers in the sport (Pac, Floyd, Canelo, JCC Jnr) fought him though.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I don't know about that. I think chavez is actually a legit middleweight with quite a few good qualities.

Canelo and JCC can't breeze through their careers fighting lowlevel opponents forever. It's not what makes mexicans love their fighters.

Pac and Floyd I'm not sure of. I think Pac will need to look very impressive again before i think it's a good idea for him to fight Martinez.
Floyd on the other hand i feel has no excuse for not fighting Martinez at 154 when he beats up Cotto at that weight.

Maybe that is a weid statement to make as Pac and Mayweather are almost identical in size, but i think Pac has some leeway as hes fought all time greats and beat them. If we look back Pac's career we do not think of the Cotto, Margarito or Mosley victory. We think of Marquez, Morales and Barrera.
With Floyd? Oh i don't know. Castillo is one of the greatest lightweights of the 2000s, but hes not on the level of the mexican trio.

Not to mention i think Floyd is just a better fighter than Pac and think hes more suited to take on Martinez. I think he'd be a betting favorite at 154.

Martinez on the other hand need to make himself undeniable. He should either move to 154 and campaign there, take a shot against the mammoths at 168 or just beat the best 1t 160. He needs to chose the strategy instead of desperately hoping for one of the $$$-fighters to give him a call.

Basically i want boxing and its stars to get down to the basics. Make good fight, drive traffic into the sport. Look at Oscar Dela Hoya. He lost a bunch of times, yet he was the biggest star of all time. He kept fighting the best throughout his career.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I think it will take a bad performance or two from Martinez before one of mega-stars of the sport goes near him. I agree that he should stop calling out guys who are two weights below him though, it's not really a good look. I am sure if he moved up to 168 and beat Andre Ward he would be many peoples p4p no. 1 but that is also unlikely.

I agree with your last point about Oscar, I don't like the guy but he definitely always fought the best. Although I suppose Floyd/Manny vs Martinez situation is a bit like Oscar vs Winky Wright back then, a fight that has not much chance of happening.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

It's more like Oscar vs. B-hop in my opinion. Can't believe Oscar went that route. I guess hes one of those guys that just wants to be remembered forever. He actually came quite close. If he had won against Trinidad and Mosley his all time standings would've been much different. And if he didn't get his last 3rd of a career spoiled by only being a halftime fighter whose focus was put on other things, he could have had even more great moments.

Too bad hes such a ****tard in every other aspect of his life. It's hard to be a fan of Oscar when you factor in his personality. As a fighter there's not much more i could ask of him. Possibly to not run like a ****ing moron for the last rounds of the trinidad fight.

it started well before that obviously. He seemed to suffer from lack of dedication (as in having businesses, and enjoying the celeb-life a bit too much) from 03-04 and onward.
Fighting Manny Pacquiao is actually the only pussymove i feel Oscar has made. I hated him for it. Definitely considered it cherrypicking. I was happy to see it backfire.

He won his fair share of controversial close decisions too though so he can't really complain.
