Are you referencing the fact that judges are usually biased towards one party and that they would pick Oscar for political reasons? Because if you are talking about the actual fight or their skill levels at the time Mayweather both clearly won the fight and was a favorite to do so imho.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Cotto is not getting stopped by Mayweather, thats for sure. He'll most likely lose though.

It's better than Canelo fight. I lost a lot of interest in that one once i realized his best win is probably Matthew Hatton and Ryan Rhodes. I'm happy he gets to build more before getting thrown away to the wolves.

Now i just hope Pac picks Bradley and not Marquez or Peterson. I actually think Bradley will put up a good fight. Especially if Pac gets dem legcrampz.

I agree I think, but if the odds are right I might bet a knockout or TKO.

That said I would be so stoked if Cotto some how wins, for such a great fighter to have his career set back by a cheater is such a shame, he really deserves the pay day and spotlight, can't wait for 24/7.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

floyd vs. cotto is going to be at 154lbs.

Thats a good thing. Maybe thats what sealed the deal; Pac refused to fight above 147 against Cotto.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Pac versus Bradley, imo.

I am glad Pac didn't agree to fight at 150 pounds vs. Cotto because I don't want to see that fight anyways. Much rather see him fight Tim Bradley, but he might choose JMM again (boo).

Floyd vs. Cotto is a more competitive fight than Floyd vs. Canelo. Canelo would have gotten schooled. However, I expect Floyd beat Cotto pretty easily.

Can somebody explain to me why Manny doesn't just say he's not fighting anybody until he fights Floyd?

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

If true, then wow ......

Koncz said last week, with the approval of Arum and Pacquiao, he offered Mayweather a guaranteed $50 million to fight Pacquiao in May with the revenue to be divided 55-45 with the lion's share going to the winner of the fight. Mayweather has said he demanded the lion's share of the money.

"I've been talking to Floyd directly and I made a commitment to keep it out of the media, but with him saying all the things that he's been saying -- that Manny ducked the fight, that Manny is only a $10 million fighter, I am compelled to talk to the media and say what really happened," he said. "We had our deal with Arum. Both fighters were going to be guaranteed $50 million. Arum had agreed to that. The other thing was when Manny instructed me to reach out to Floyd, I informed Floyd at that time (about two months ago) that there were no more issues with blood testing. Manny agreed to everything, whenever anyone wanted, except on the day of the fight. Floyd said, 'Ok, that's great.' My discussions with Floyd were cordial, professional and during our discussions we both treated each other with the utmost respect. We didn't agree on a lot of things, but we were respectful. He has my number and he can call me any time and hopefully we can do this fight in November."

lion's share to the winner should be the norm in every fight imo, too bad it's impossible though and so many boxers are willing to sell themselves short to get in with pac or floyd

also I wish any combination of Canelo, Cotto, and Sergio Martinez would fight soon

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Another legend of the game. I've always been slightly dubious about him though as he was well known for letting Ali take on tough sparring (as he believed it made him tougher in actual fights if sparring partners were encouraged to search for his chin) and was still involved when Ali was fighting on despite already slurring his speach and being a million miles over the hill.

Maybe I'm being unfair though, not sure.

maybe the hate on Arum is not justified

another source:

Re: Mayweather

Koncz: So we had a couple of conversations in-between there. Then I went back to the Philippines. And then he called me to discuss the fight again. He said that he wanted to pay us $40 million dollars, $40 million wired within two days.
...
I informed him that Manny would not accept a buyout of $40 million. Because that's what it was. When I asked Floyd about the [pay-per-view/revenue] overage, he said 'I'm paying you guys $40 million, accept that first and then perhaps we can talk about something on the overage at the end.'

I said that 'I discussed it in depth with Manny and we can't accept those terms Floyd. But what Manny has offered me to do, is split the revenue 45-55 - with 55 going to the winner of the fight.' So I told Floyd that if you’re the best fighter in the world, then no problem you're going to get the extra ten percent. On a fight of this magnitude, that's $200 million and that's an additional $20 million to you. It wasn't accepted.

Was fighting on May 5th an issue?

Koncz: During the bulk of the negotiations, May 5th was never ruled out by us. In fact, when I met with Floyd I told him that we would fight at the end of May at this temporary arena. However, if we agreed on everything else, the revenue split and stuff, then Manny wouldn’t have a problem with fighting on May 5th. Perhaps, Bob wouldn’t be too excited about it, but as long as the two fighters agreed on everything, Bob would probably follow our stuff. So we never ruled out May 5th.
http://www.boxingscene.com/team-pacq...y-cotto--49159 (good read, talks cotto too)

if you agree on a potential $200m fight, then floyd is "offering" $40m to pac while keeping $160m for himself. great negotiation. who is ducking who?

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Yeah, Floyd had almost convinced me that he actually wanted the fight until he refused the 50/50. And it's only going to get worse, the Mayweather vs Cotto PPV, which will possibly have Canelo on the undercard against Mosley, is going to easily sell more than Pacquiao vs Bradley. Which will make it even less likely Floyd will accept 50/50.

Hey guys, how did Johnny Tapia's career end? Obviously the guy was a mess but he had a lot of heart and was fun to watch, I always rooted for him partly because of all the demons he was fighting.

From his wikipedia entry

Quote:
Johnny Tapia's life began with tragedy. His father had reportedly been murdered while his mother was pregnant with him. At the age of 8, his mother Virginia was kidnapped, raped, hung, repeatedly stabbed, and left for dead by her assailant. Tapia was awakened by her screams and saw her chained to the back of a pick-up truck. He tried to alert others in his household, but no one believed him. His mother was later found by the police and taken to the hospital after she had crawled 100 yards to a road. She died four days after the attack without regaining consciousness. Raised thereafter by his grandmother, Tapia turned to boxing at the age of nine
Quote:
Tapia was found unconscious and not breathing in a hotel room early on the morning of March 12, 2007. Tapia was hospitalized in critical condition from an apparent cocaine overdose at Albuquerque Presbyterian Hospital.

The next day, on the morning of March 13, Tapia's brother-in-law and nephew were killed in an automobile accident on U.S. Highway 550 near Bloomfield, New Mexico, apparently en route to the hospital to visit Tapia.
Holy ****.
