Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I would be pissed off if he fights anyone but Mayweather. Who would I be pissed off at? I am not sure yet until I read the details about why the mega fight feel through.

I am not excited about Pac-Cotto II or Pac-JMM IV. Tim Bradley won't make sense finically, so that fight is out of the picture. If he fights Peterson, then that's almost as bad as Floyd-Guerrero.

I guess I can't empirically prove that Manny is being "used" more than Floyd is but the way both sides seem to do things seems really different.

For the record, I respect Floyd for being his own boss (as much as that's possible in boxing). I think it's great that he has the talent to do what he wants and I don't like that Manny has that same talent but seems not to be at the forefront of driving his career.

*You could say Manny doesn't have the business sense to do it so he needs Arum, but I can't speak to that one way or the other.

Quote:
To be honest, the logical thing for Roach to do would be to say Arum is responsible. That would make Arum the bad guy instead of Manny.
Roach has NO ties to Arum. He only cares about Manny. Why would he "lie" if that hurts Mannys image more than the truth?
Roach would say Manny calls the shots because no one in the boxing industry is going to say "My fighter is impotent in decision making and Bob Arum holds at least a decent amount of sway here".

I don't know why Arum or Golden Boy or anyone else even needs to be here (I understand why they are, just not why they should be). This fight is so huge you and I could promote it and it would do fine.

Quote:
Why do we blame some fighters for who they fight, and with others we blame their promoter?
I blamed Floyd when he made stupid requests and I'll blame Manny if I find out this fight doesn't go off because either his cut hasn't healed (laughable) or Arum wants a bigger stadium (more laughable).

I think Floyd's behavior is still funny and very telling about him as a person and a fighter, but I don't care if Floyd or Manny are bitches or not, I just want to see them hit each other.

Yes, the best fights are the fights with uncertain outcomes. Fight Floyd and if you can't/won't/whatever fight JMM.

All I've seen is Todd DuBeouf saying he don't even know who to talk to, and Schaefer countering with "That's laughable. He should call me".

So no. I doubt they've even spoken to eachother, and now Bob Arum says Pacs next fight was chosen in 30 minutes time. So yeah, this isn't happening. They can't even pick up the phone and call eachother like adults.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

It appears that Manny has chosen Cotto as his back up plan if the Mayweather fight can't be done, as confirmed by his wife.

Meh... I won't even buy that fight. I saw it already, and it will end in the same result. I really really hope Floyd & Pac work something out.

meh, I've spent so many hours of the day just thinking about Pac-Mayweather that I'm kind of burned out by it, I'm still really interested in that fight but it's not at the forefront of my mind like it used to be.

Arum has been killing boxing and he needs to die so the sport can potentially recover.

Arum does not want Pac to fight Floyd next as both a restriction on Pac and also cos he knows Floyd makes more money than he (Arum) does.

I've been around the sport for 11 or so years, and never have I seen someone hated and propagandised against as much as Floyd. People don't like him so they use their dislike to rail against him without much evidence.

Floyd has always said he'd fight Pacman, so long as Pacman took the tests. There was never anything ambiguous about his position. However, people used that to try and second guess his motives about him being scared etc. Floyd being Floyd wanted to fight Pacquiao and have all the terms in hais favour to demoralise Pacquiao...

If they fight each other now, after Pac's "win" vs JMM and everything else that's been going on, Pac will definitely start as the underdog. I can't wait to be in Las Vegas to see his ass handed to him. Not so much because of him (who I like) but because his know-little army of idiot boxing "fans" (who only watch the sport when he fights) will be made to STFU and scrabble around like mugs for excuses, when there simply aren't any.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Yeah, I'm not touching this thread for the night. I foresee about 20 wall of text posts incoming that would make me miserable.

You guys have 24 hours to spin all of this in the most ******ed of ways without me interfering! Truth shall not prevail for now. (you could start with Floyd ducking Tszyu, then i would move towards Floyd draining Oscar and maybe finish it up with being a hand numbing cheater and probably a crack dealer. Please remember also that Floyd is NOT the commission)

God bless you all.

I would avoid Boxingscene, that site is riddled with popups, trojans, and potential malware viruses.

ESB is pretty good, the most trafficked boxing site and lots of folks commenting and dishing news. But there's indeed a lot of Mayweather nut huggers there.

Really? Didn't know that about boxingscene. I use ad block + popupblock addons tho.
ESB looks good, but i can't get used to the interface compared to BS. Probably why i haven't switched over.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

ESPN posted the latest developments last night at 10:35 pm EST. Bob Arum left the Phillippines Saturday after a final meeting with Manny Pacquiao and advisor Michael Koncz.

Cliffs Notes: "No comment," said Koncz.

Meh.

I mean, if I'm even close to right in assuming Manny's heart isn't 100% in boxing any more, the only fight of the 3 probables that make sense is Cotto. Get another paycheck, don't break a sweat, and move on to politics.

So sad if true. Can't fault a guy for wanting to do something else, but damn boxing needed this.

You could be talking about either of them and the bolded part would still make sense. Also it doesn't really have any significance to any regulars in this thread - no one has said that Pacquiao would beat Floyd easily, most probably think that Floyd wins (I do).

My AVG kept giving warnings and I'd have to run scans to wipe out the trojans at BScene. Another reader at ESB reported the same problem and so did a blogger who actually warned readers about it when he ran a link to BScene once.

ESB is easy because you don't have to sign up, you just type in an anti spam code and your user name stays the same each time.

Just my experience there, not trying to dog BScene which actually has some good coverage. Just not worth the risk IMO.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

ESB sucks, as does Boxingscene. Boxing forums are largely akin to NVG nowadays. I find the Boxrec forums to be the best of a bad bunch.

To be honest though, the debate in here is probably better. Except most people in here know nothing about boxing. It's like a boxing forum discussing poker...

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I mostly stick to the history section of BS. Not a lot of traffic, but high quality discussions.

The discussion here is alright. Could use some more traffic and diversify the topics, but it's a much better noise to signal ratio than most boxing forums at least.

I'm still waiting on that all time boxing draft to begin so i can ramble about some old greats that would put Poochiao, Klithoe, Amere Con and Gayweather to shame. (oh I'm so funny)

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

ESB says it's Cotto, not Floyd:

Pacquiao’s wife, Jinkee, was quoted as saying her husband has chosen Miguel Cotto as his next opponent, meaning, if true, that we will see a return of the November 2009 meeting Pac-Man and Cotto had.

If so that blows. From now on I'm boycotting all Pac and Floyd fights unless it's against each other. This has been going on too long and it became absurd a year ago already.

this is a few days old, and some people question how legit the source is.

I read Freddie Roach says it's either Cotto or Bradley. He wants Bradley himself.

""I think that we need some new blood in there, and Bradley poses a little bit of a problem," said Roach, from his Wild Card Boxing Gym in Hollywood, Calif., on Monday. "So I would rather go with Tim Bradley than a Miguel Cotto or somebody else."

... "I have't talked to anyone yet, but I think that [Top Rank CEO] Bob Arum's choices, to me, are Cotto or Bradley," said Roach. "I don't think that Mayweather is going to happen until November. I think that's going to be the best date for that fight.""

I mean, i still think it's ducking. But if he fights Bradley i guess I'm cool with that. I'd respect picking Bradley at least. It's an ok outcome of a ****ty situation.
Cotto is a joke fight and I'll take a huge stinking crap all over it if announced. Especially at 147 as the rumor had it.
