Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Yea Cotto is high on the list if he stays a free agent, but i think hes said he wants to go with Arum so I'm not counting on it.
Cotto with Arum is close to impossible for Floyd to make a fight with.

jcc is bigger than Martinez. Would be weird to see him fight Pac.

Yes, but he's nowhere near as good. I agree it's unlikely though

I have just been thinking about the huge gap that will be left when Mayweather and Pacquiao retire or stop being so good. Cotto is the next biggest star after them but he's 30 and definitely past his best, Marquez is 38.

It could be a lean few years in terms of mega-fights.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

i could see cotto retire before mayweather and pac.

Theres a few guys that could emerge into a superstar in a few years. Broner, Russell, Alvarez (almost there already), Donaire.

We still have Bradley and Khan but i doubt Bradley will ever be a big ppv-draw. Maybe if he beats Pac?
Khan have all the tools to become the major draw in boxing, but he needs to get better.

Andre Ward possibly, but hes got a very tame personality.

Gamboa? Hes a small guy + cuban so it's unlikely he could become a major draw in the us, but it's not completely impossible if he can get the cuban-americans behind him.

Once May,Pac Cotto retires more focus will be put on these guys.
I wish it already was as the transition would be easier but i guess thats asking for too much from greedy promoters and tv-execs.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Pacquiao says he will demand Mayweather to be his next opponent. He says he will abide my Floyd's drug testing and even a smaller purse. He's supposed to meet with Arum tomorrow. Things could get interesting.

I don't know how reliable this source is... take it with a grain of salt. Mayweather-Guerrero apparently close to being done.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I'll believe it when i see it. I've seen Pac say these things to filipino media several times. If it's true, I'm stoked but as i said I'll believe it when i see it on paper.
And if hes injured until april (right) i don't see how it's even possible regardless.

Yea i have no idea how reliable that source is either, but I'll just dismiss it as completely ridiculous just like i did when media reported on Matthew Hatton, Spadafora, Erik Morales and Malignaggi being close to a done deal.
It's just too stupid to take serious. I'll laugh at it until it actually happens, and then i'll focus my efforts towards laughing at Floyd for being a ****ing ******.

Seriously, imagine what a joke boxing has turned into if Floyd fights Guerrero and Pac fights Peterson? Just bury it all and move all boxers to mma or something if thats the case. It's done and over.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

kingofcool,

I actually think Floyd is seriously considering Guerrero. Hopefully he realizes that fighting Guerrero would make him the joke of boxing, and that it would be very bad for his career. All the Floyd is scared of Pacquiao talks will be confirmed.

This week will be very interesting.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I wouldn't put it past Floyd or his team to have Guerrero on some kind of shortlist.
They would have to be ******ed not to realize it would bomb on ppv and destroy Floyd credibility even further.

Even with all these rumors circling i would expect the probability (pure guesswork obviously) as:

Saul Alvarez - 50%
Miguel Cotto - 30%
Guerrero - 10%
Pac - 5%
Someone else - 5%

Yes just like with Arum, Mayweather, De La Hoya and Schaefer - it's all BS. I pretty much ignore it all now.

Guerrero would be a strange choice given that he hasn't even fought at 140 before, is not particularly exciting and I don't think he has ever headlined an HBO show so nobody will know who he is. I suppose he has that whole wife with cancer storyline which could bring a lot of interest to the fight.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Looks like Floyd is going to decide by Friday.

It's looking more and more like Guerrero is the choice. Canelo is a small possibility. Pacquiao only if a miracle happens.

ESPN is not a credible source for boxing.
Fat Dan Rafael is a complete Floyd hating fat moron.

Fat Dan is indeed a joke, but I originally read the story on the sweetscience.com where, as usual, an un-named source has given a reporter details. I'm not too interested until I hear the official announcement.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Not that we didn't expect it but yeah, Pac vs Floyd is definitely not happening in may. I guess we'll have to see in november/december.

Quote:
HIS next foe can wait. Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao won’t rush to a decision on his next opponent. Manny is scheduled to meet with his promoter, Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, to review the options for his next defense of the WBO welterweight crown, tentative for a date in late May or early June.

That’s what BoxingScene.com/Manila *Standard learned a few hours before Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz boarded a plane in Los Angeles for an early-morning arrival in Manila on Tuesday.

Arum plans to remain in the Philippines until Saturday during which he will meet with Pacquiao and lay out the options, including the all-important financial packages covering the four prospective opponents.

Arum’s list includes Juan Manuel Marquez, who has given Pacquiao a hard time, especially in their last fight on Nov. 12, 2011, in which the Filipino icon won by a majority decision.

The three other fighters mentioned by Arum are newly crowned World Boxing Association super world and International Boxing Federation light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson, whose split decision win over Amir Khan last Dec. 10 is still mired in controversy, WBA light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley and World Boxing Association light middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, whom Pacquiao soundly defeated in November 2009, winning by a 12th-round TKO.

Arum said he has his preferences, but emphasized that he wouldn’t make it known and would allow Pacquiao to decide.

Koncz has been in constant contact with Pacquiao and indicates the boxer will make a decision only after Arum leaves because “ there is no hurry.”

There is no word on when the meeting between Arum and Pacquiao will take place as the Fighter of the Decade said he will remain in his hometown of General Santos City to celebrate his wife Jinkee’s birthday on Jan. 12.

Arum said he wanted to know how well the nasty cut suffered by Pacquiao in his last fight against Marquez had healed, pointing out that the Filipino champion could perhaps start sparring only in April, which was one of the reasons a May 5 fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. had been ruled out aside from the American boxer’s legal problems.

How come neither side has attempted to negotiate with the other? It's only a phone call away. I don't think either side wants this fight to happen right now.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Bob has been very adamant about Pac not being able to fight due to a cut + the stadium he wants to build.
No idea if theres been any behind the scenes talk but i guess we're gonna be the last to know about that.

I'm happy floyd is doing it, but it's more expected.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

So.. just read that Manny said his cut in "fine and there's no problem".

Arum says he wants to build a temp stadium to house 45,000 people because it will generate $60 million, instead of $20 million at the MGM Grand. That $20 million more for each side. He reiterates that it will not be available until late May.

This fight is going to happen in November unless Pacquiao goes against Arum's advice or Floyd pushes the date back (which I am not sure he can do).

This will all be settled within a week or so..

The stadium just seems absurd.

Even if it's 40million more in revenue (which seems inaccurate. Ticket prices would be lower due to worse seatings and theres a cost to build a stadium) It's not a huge amount compared to what kind of money it already brings in. Maybe $200mm? Possibly more.

Maybe it would net a couple more million in each fighters pocket and the rest would be spread around in Arums etc pockets.

If it's not happening because of a sudden urge to build a temp-stadium that is BEYOND absurd and absolutely ****ing horrible.

I'm also questioning if Bob Arum is the only one roadblocking this.
Manny Pacquiao aspire to be a PRESIDENT. He can't make a decision?

Manny needs to make this happen. He can't hide behind his promoter. It's not acceptable.
