There are many things that make boxers great, being "skilful" is only one of them. Pacquiao has many attributes that Mayweather doesn't have and vice-versa.

There is a large section of casual fans that love Mayweather and believe his own hype that he is better than Ali, Robinson etc. Weirdly they seem to love his in-ring persona as well as his character outside the ring, which is strange considering that if you heard him talk. eg, "I'm a dog, i'm a gorilla, i'm a gorilla, i'm a dog" you would think he would fight like Tyson.

I assume you mean 144, otherwise that doesn't really make sense to me.

Palo's bang on: this was the worst fight of the 3, AINEC. I think it was an exceptionally tough fight to score.
He did tho. Solid game plan executed perfectly. The first two fights they were same size and can really put on fireworks. Pac is bigger and stronger now, JMM going in there toe to toe would just be stupid and he would have been finished early.

Marquez adjusts to his opponents beautifully. The first Diaz fight he had trouble with Diaz's legit effective aggression. Second fight he backed up and outboxed him from a distance, which is what he did to Pac last night. Obv vastly different fights tho.

Nope, he's a lightweight.

135 is lightweight. Are implying he shouldn't be fighting at lightweight?

+1. Seems to me this was tried for a semi-important fight back in the 70s or 80s, but good luck finding out any details. Maybe some huge controversial CCTV fight was replayed on network TV and they had some people watch and score it in a quiet booth.

And WOATLOL Nacho. Unless the champ's been down a couple times and has his face all busted up you never tell your guy he's got it, esp after the first two fights. You can argue "gotta BEAT the champ" forever, but it's been the main fact of life in boxing forever.

I am trying to think of horrible decisions that went AGAINST the champ and can't really think of one, aside from Hagler-Leonard of course, which was a very difficult fight to score.

Until the final two rounds, which probably lost him the fight.

I mean, the LOL Nacho is so huge, it's astounding.

Well then, if was Vegas, I would've wanted JMM to get a very close split decision, keep all that Filipino 1-9 bridge jump money (unless the Mexican 9-1 flyer money was greater), and then have the rematch in April.

Kinda lol that if Pac-PBF does happen now in May, they'll both be coming off their worst and most controversial wins of their respective careers.

the quote is from UK commentator Steve Bunce and he is as mad as a bottle of chips.

btw decisions like last night are commonplace in Boxing, ffs can hardly watch a show now without some controversy caused by bad refs or dumb judges.

Bunce is great, a lot of what he comes out with is nonsense but it's all entertaining.

That was mostly based on outlandish comments made by him suggesting they shouldn't fight Mayweather because his hateful persona and the things he says could jeopardize Mannys potential run for president.

Now, given that it's clear as day that Manny is still the fighter he was at his second fight against Marquez, and not this megaultraevolved superathlete. And is still highly likely to struggle against mobile fighters who can handle his speed and timing. Floyd seems like a complete nightmare opponent.

Fwiw, I'm not 100% certain Floyd or his camp want the fight either despite all of this. I'm just very certain Arum doesn't want it.

No idea what hes implying, but i never thought Marquez looked very good even at 135. He had problems against both Juan Diaz and Katsidis at times.

Maybe hes old enough where he can't get below 135 anymore, but i think his best weight is clearly below that. Mannys too.

I don't like the way people on other forums discuss Marquez as being a future 147/140 fighter, and that he should fight berto, khan etc. Hes just not made for this weight. The reason he looked good against Pac is because of his style and the fact that he can constantly outsmart him.

Jmm vs Khan would be onesided in my opinion.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Maybe he was refusing the Khan fight so he could chase the big money fight with Pac? Maybe now that the fight with Pac is off the table Khan becomes the next biggest available fight so he takes it. I'm not sure, I'm not too interested in the fight tbh.

Yes, Marquez was probably better at feather than lightweight but saying he had no business fighting at 135 is ridiculous. It's like saying SRR shouldn't have fought at middleweight or Duran at welterweight.

What's the deal with Cotto - Margarito? I heard they were having licence problems for Margarito, if that fight gets cancelled I will not be happy.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Please don't compare duran at ww with marquez at 135.
I know you don't but still had to say it.

Margarito cotto is in jeopardy because of Margaritos eye. They are uncertain he will get a licence to fight in NYC.
I think i read that the decision will be made 2 weeks prior to the fight.

Can't believe this **** wasn't sorted beforehand, but thats boxing for you.

I just watched the face-off, it was great but I really want to punch Max Kellerman in the mouth.

His best weight is clearly below 135. He only moved up to fight Casamayor and get bigger fights Diaz, Katsidis, etc. Which he didn't look particularly good in any despite being vastly superior skillwise due to fighting bigger guys. The fact that he legit beat Pac at 143 is pretty astounding. But probably more an indication of Pac's struggles with counter punching technicians than anything else. Meh woteva, Marga-Cotto i wasn't completely thrilled for; but that face-off has me kinda pumped up.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Watching fight now.

After 5 rounds I have it

10-9 Pac
10-9 JMM
10-10
10-10
10-9 JMM

Clearly not as much action as the previous 2 fights but still loving it. Emanuel Stewart is really annoying me tho, he gives no praise to JMM at all, all he can talk about his Pacquiao's speed.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

It's hard to imagine JMM retiring with such big pay days on the table (even if he can't get pacquiao I'm sure the fight with Morales could be made)

Trying to think of others that did it recently and the obvious first two that come to mind are Marvin Hagler and Lennox Lewis. Any others I'm missing?

calzaghe.. maybe, but he had dawson pretty much. Not a lot of money in it.

A rematch with hopkins i guess, but anyone really interested? The first fight was aids.

i would say prince nazeem still had a lot of money to be had. he just bailed.
