Fair enough, I understand there's a corruption argument, especially with the "big name" fights. However, I don't see this corruption with other fights I watch. Boxing has never sucked balls with me, but I watch a lot of it. Probably fights others don't care about.

This boxing is dying/dead talk has always annoyed me. I think it may never regain popularity in N. America, but it is alive and well in other parts of the world. Pac v Mayweather is not going to save boxing in America. It's going to be good competitive matchmaking from the ground up that will save it. This something that promoters should learn from the UFC. Padding a boxer's record with W's sucks. You need to see prime boxers fighting each other as they develop and gain experience.

One thing I have realized though, I am a boxing fan for life. The good far outweighs the bad for me in this sport.

I always hear about the robbery talk, but I've become desensitized to it. You see bad decisions in all sports frequently. I'm sure it's def motivated by money there too.

In parts I'm also desensitized to the robberies. But not when it's personal to me.

Imagine Mayweather getting a gift decision vs Pac. You would go berserk most likely.

Pac getting a gift decision against Mayweather to ruin his 0 would be hilarious. I want to see it happen just to see Mayweather's reaction.

How is tonight's fight personal to you? Do you know JMM in real life?

Pac getting the wrong end of the decision won't make me go bezerk. I won't lose any sleep over it. Maybe like 10 years ago, but these days I would not get overly emotional about it.

That would be great! That would be money well spent by Arum!

So you only deeply care about a sporting event if you personally know the people involved.

It's personal to me because i was emotionally invested.

Well good for you then. I'll await the reactions if that happens.
Seeing how mad some people in here get by a various degree of floyds antics, i would think him getting a gift decision over pac would raise one big thunderstorm.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

the one good thing about the outcome is that pbf vs pac is still possible. That was my first thought.

But i doubt this fight helped getting that fight made. I can't see bob arum let pac fight him whatsoever.

It can't be a robbery for the aggressive fighter that throws more and lands more to end up with a close decision win. Counter punchers frequently get slighted on scoring cards. Nacho was terrible to ever tell Marquez he was winning.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Obv professional and ex-professional boxers aren't judges, but i'd venture to say they know way more about the the sport than some judges and definitely more than us

Marvin Hagler "Disgusting result! #ROBBERY!" http://twitter.com/#!/TheMarvelous0ne

Bernard Hopkins "FloydMayweather blow thru MannyPacquiao easy!!" http://twitter.com/#!/therealbhop

OscarDeLaHoya "I'm still sitting on my couch in disbelief. Paquiao cannot compete with a counter puncher like Marquez. Juan has the Patience to wait and capitalize on mistakes. I think this shows how superior mayweather is." http://twitter.com/#!/oscardelahoya

Andre Dirrell "Ok after this fight, I don't know what 2 think! Did JMM just have a good night, or did Pacman put on a great possum show 2 get MW! U TELL ME. GO GET YO GLOVES ON AND COME WHOOP THIS DUDE!!!! PACMAN CAN'T SEE YOU!!!" http://twitter.com/#!/andredirrell

ZAB JUDAH "Robbery!!!!" http://twitter.com/#!/SUPERJUDAH

Steve Cunningham "All pro fighters I know ,guys which know what to look 4 in a fight had jmm winning. It's not just entertainment to us its a #lifestyle#" http://twitter.com/#!/usscunningham

Anthonydirrell "If y'all think that they was bout to lose out on 150 million y'all crazy"

Matthew Macklin "It was close but still wrong...and for it to happen THREE times!!!!!?? WTF!!!" http://twitter.com/#!/mattmacklin

Andre S.O.G. Ward "Well, I was wrong. Marquez is boxing a masterful fight. Marquez won this fight, period!!" http://twitter.com/#!/andreward

Terry Norris "Wow! Thought PAC man would win. But clearly Marquez was robbed again. PAC did NOT win this fight."

Andre Berto "Smh WOW..... Come on u know Top Rank was gonna let Marquez **** the money up!!! Great fight though"

Omar Henry "Wow I just watched Pacquiao get beat and Marquez get robbed!!!! and yes I was one of the people in the crowd booing the robbery!!!!"

Chris Arreola "Marquez won, true champ. Let's see Mayweather-Pacquiao. ****."

Rashad Holloway "I'm team Pacquiao all day but Marquez won this fight hands down. Sad to see how politics run this sport when fighters work so hard." http://twitter.com/#!/RASHADHOLLOWAY

Fernando Vargas "Well I'm DISGUSTED at tonight's event. It's sad that u can TRAIN your butt off for months and get jobbed at the end of the day! Truth is that EVERYWHERE Marquez goes EVERYONE will tell him that he WAS ROBBED & HELL FEEL LIKE HE WON BECUZ HE REALLY DID!!! SAME FOR PACMAN. EVERYWHERE HE GOES PEOPLE WILL TELL HIM HE REALLY LOST AND HE GOT A GIFT!!! LOVE THIS SPORT. But this is a SAD MOMENT FOR ME.
#LongLiveDinamitaMarquez" http://twitter.com/#!/_FernandoVargas

Juan Diaz "Great fight for the boxung fans but bad decision by the judges." http://twitter.com/#!/1Babybull

Amir Khan "mayb a good draw or marquez by 1-2 rounds." http://twitter.com/#!/amirkingkhan

Anthony Mundine "I luv PAC too...but he lost fair & square...but I'm sure he will return stronger...PAC v Marquez 4 #bringit. Actually I change my mind! Marquez deserves the pay day v money!! As he was really the victor! Don't think I wanna see 4. Even tho money." http://twitter.com/The_Man_Mundine

Erik Morales "Nos robaroooon y feo. Marquez total reconocimiento es el segundo mexicano que le pone en su madre a pacquiao, gano y gano muy bien felicidadees!" Which translates to English as "They robbed us and it was an ugly robbery too. To Marquez total recognition, he is the second Mexican to beat the ***** out of Pacquiao, he won and he won nicely. Congratulations!" http://twitter.com/terrible100

Jean Pascal "On my card Marquez WON!!!!" http://twitter.com/jeanpascalchamp

so to avoid this they award a bum decision and boxing still sucks balls.

Great isn't it.

I had it 115-113 for Manny and even after 10. Nacho screwed up so badly at the end to tell Marquez he was winning.

The second fight was closer and I had Marquez winning that one by one point. I think I had Manny by three in their first fight.

There is just no excuse to call this a robbery when Marquez landed less, never hurt Manny, and wasn't the aggressor. A draw is fine and defendable but giving this fight to Marquez would have been worse than the 116-112 Manny card you guys are complaining about.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

So does anybody think that the Mayweather camp sees a window after the performance Manny put on last night and says screw the 24hr blood test lets do this? Is some of that fear factor gone? Seems like now would be the best time to attack, amidst the controversy, while Mannys dominate image is a bit tarnished.

"Very close fights usually fall to the champion because a contender must BEAT a champion not match him to win the title and belt. Beat meaning he must dominate the majority of the fight. Anything close to an even fight is not good enough to dethrone. That's the business of boxing." -Gary Youhas

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

The CompuBox totals are ludicrous. People do realize that CompuBox is just a couple of guys hitting buttons when they think a fighter lands a punch, right? It's not some highly intelligent supercomputer incapable of receiving a bribe from Bob Arum. Absolutely no way in hell Pacquiao outlanded Marquez.

And for the "Floyd shouldn't be afraid to fight him now" crowd. Get a clue. Bob Arum is running the show and the one who torpedoed negotiations throughout the process. Arum made hundreds of millions of dollars by hand-picking Pacquiao's opponents and selling him to lolcasualfan.jpg. He had no intention of sending his cash cow out to a Mayweather lopsided decision until he got his money out of him. But now that Pacquiao's exposed and the luster is gone, there's nowhere else to go, but the Mayweather mega-fight where everyone involved (most importantly Bob Arum) will get one final huge payday. This is what Arum does, this is boxing.

Unless you think there was definitely a bribe, why do you think your mental recollection of how many punches were landed is more accurate than a guy who is a) recording each one at the time and b) is trained to do so?

Watch the whole fight again and make a mark every time either connects, you will almost certainly come out with the same result, and you'll still be right in thinking Marquez was better.
