It's cool though, he was in total control of the fight.

kingofcool, who was the guy RJJ is just embarrassing in the red, white, and blue trunks at about 1:45 in your linked vid. That guy should've retired after that fight.

Hagler, then he'd fight Sugar Ray Leonard again and get the win that should have been his.

Canelo's style after round 1 was extremely weird. The shoulder rolls and laying on the ropes was a surprise. Gomez was really effective from round 2 until it ended. Thought the stoppage was a little premature.

Morales' looks like he doesn't have too much left, but he's still pretty effective. I think Mathysse might have KO'd him the way I expected Maidana to.

I've only watched Benn vs McClellan once. Can't watch it more than that.

On the Jim Rome show today Larry McCarthy (sp?) was on and he said that Floyd has done this exact same thing once before. He didn't say when or vs who though.

Anyone know the details?

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Whoever wrote it up for The Ring was probably correct in their assessment; it looked like Canelo was trying to work out some new stuff and new techniques. But headlining a card at the Staples Center against a non-pushover isn't the time to do such things.

Do you actually think Wlad is better than Vitali? I think Vitali beats the crap out of him.

Vitali must be pissed off with his little brother ruining the Klitschko name. No one ever really has many bad things to say about Vitali.
Wladimir has like 10x the resume of Vitali. Vitalis resume is complete garbage.

I think Wladimir is better technically, and clearly hits harder. But It's hard to pick him over Vitali in a h2h fight. Vitalis toughness combined with serious power, Wladimirs questionable chin (and toughness) would spell disaster for the younger brother in such a fight.
Also Vitalis workrate is through the roof, so Wladimir couldn't be timid like hes been the past 5+ years.

That would be David Telesco

He kept fighting for almost ten years after that according to boxrec. Never heard much of him after that fight.

I think Sugar ray is the best of the bunch, but probably too small.
My horse in that tournament would be Carlos Monzon. Him and hagler would probably be the final given fair seeding etc, and i could see him measure hagler up with his jab and frustrate him.
When hagler tries to swarm on the inside, boom.

favorite gif of the fight. so simple but oh so beautiful. Reminds me of a prime James Toney in a way.

Love Floyd holding his head down there and the ref doing nothing. PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMEZ!!!!

Edit: Wow, I didn't catch it the first time, but when Gatti's head goes down and Floyd holds it there, the ref says "Stop Punching", so I guess I was wrong, the ref did try to protect the fighters, Floyd's just a scumbag.

When Floyd says "my camp watches my opponents tapes" I guess he meant this?

I think that's what he's saying, yeah. And yeah, the way that's written it can be read both ways.

FFS Ortiz, how do you go through a fight with PBF and come out looking like the bad guy. That alone takes huge talent.

maybe you just nailed the reason why he was acting so nicely afterwards.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I don't think "bad guy" is the right description. He came out of it looking like a complete idiot and an overwhelmed kid, but not bad per se.

Besides, Floyd's post-fight interview erased any doubt who the real villain still is.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Mayweather going off on Larry Merchant at the end of the fight was totally scripted. Fastforward to 10:13 of the video below and watch promoter Richard Schaefer signal Floyd (with a nod) to start getting angry at Merchant totally un-provoked:

WWE in BOXING

You may have to rewind back to 10:13 a few times to see it. Schaefer (who is on the right of the screen) nods to Mayweather to signal that it is time to pretend to get angry. They actually look at each other. There is a drastic change in Mayweather's tone after the nod. Watch it a few times to get it.

p.s. Rewind back to 10:05 or even 10:00 to see the sudden transition in Mayweather's tone. Totally scripted I tell you.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

much madness is divinest sense
to a discerning eye;
much sense the starkest madness.
't is the majority
in this, as all, prevails.
assent, and you are sane;
demur, -- you're straightway dangerous,
and handled with a chain.

-- emily dickinson, the collected works, part 1, page 11

Interview by Teddy Blackburn -
youtube - Interview with Gerald McClellan - 6 years after

"Vicious" Victor Ortiz should pay a visit to Gerald McClellan to truly face the vicious madness of the "cold, cruel, killer" bloodsport in which he is engaged. Ortiz may in fact have spoken the "divinest sense" when he excused himself after his no mas against Maidana saying he was young and didn't think he deserved to be getting beat up like that. And he might even be "straightway dangerous" if the Ortiz Hug were to catch on. Maybe boxers should hug before the fight, after every foul, after every round - hell, have a nice hug after every punch. The Ortiz hug might catch on in football where teams could hug after every roughing the passer, holding, pass interference, and offsides penalty. Dunks in basketball should have a hug to show no disrespect intended. What a boon to humanity if the Ortiz Hug were instituted between all combatants before acts of war could commence.

Unfortunately, for too much in this world the madness of the majority prevails. Victor Ortiz needs to face that fact or leave his nickname and the brutal business of boxing behind.

Floyds camp ain't no suckas. Tweet a $100 prop to make it seem like a lucky guess, while having the big tickets in the safe.

Floyds gf twitpic.
