Thus the fight should be a no contest. Both fighters should lose their purse and the referee should be fined/suspended.
Watch the youtube link again. Cortez says "lets go," and motions them to come together in the center of the ring. Then he looks over to the timekeeper to ask if the bell rang while Ortiz was busy not defending himself and getting knocked out.

Cortez could have been more assertive, but Ortiz is a moron for not keeping his hands up and I can't feel too bad for him after the blatant headbutt. What Mayweather did was cheap and not good sportsmanship, but it was legal.

Not sure. Whatever it is, the max should be taken away.

And the ref did NOT restart the fight. I'm looking at the YouTube video and Joe is talking and pointing at the timekeeper outside the ring, not pointing anywhere near the fighter. Although it should be a no contest, it probably won't be ruled that way.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I had a feeling Mayweather would try to get in a cheap shot while they were Ortiz was trying to make up with him. He's done this in the past. One time to Corrales when he was trying to pull up his pants and did the exact same thing to Gatti wobbling him too. Ortiz is a moron for trusting this guy. What Mayweather did was legal but it was also classless. I mean I would of accepted him giving Ortiz the first shot just to get him back but to wind up with full power for the second pretty much a DB move.

but then he doesn't watch the fight. That's like an ump saying "play ball" then talking to another ump only to come back and assume the batter struck out.

I think the fault lies on both shoulders.

Thats not what i said however (though i do feel theres been more unreasonable excuses by pacs camp than the other side) . I did say i wouldn't be surprised to see Pacs camp make another turn in regards to the tests they've accepted.

Nice edit, but no, I'm not stupid. Are you mad?

I agree, Cortez should have been paying attention instead of looking like he was having a stroke. But either way, the fight was on and Ortiz needed to be defending himself.

Basically this.

The Ref actually does a sort of double take at the scorer's table after he tells the fighters to come together. It's almost like he tells them "time in" and they don't hear him or something so he has to say it again. Why he didn't separate the fighters there I don't know.

not mad, just confused how anyone could place much of the blame with manny's side. floyd is way, way, the reason the fight hasn't happened. And that's been extensively covered earlier in this thread.

He also did it in his last fight with Shane. Only difference is Shane can take a punch.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Everyone blames Floyd for the fight not happening primarily because they don't like him. In reality both guys have gigantic egos (although Manny is slightly better at hiding it) and neither is willing to give any ground or allow themselves to not be the dominant force in the negotiations. Floyd may very well be more at fault (I think it's tough to judge negotiations solely based on what biased parties are saying) but most people take it way too far.
