ortiz is kind of like dela hoyas protege. Thats just Oscars composure rubbing off (always look good, always smile).

That or Ortiz is ****ing ******ed. I think theres a little bit of both.

At 1:04 of this video does the ref clapping his hands signal a restart? He also says lets go. Seems that way to me anyway.

He deducted a point from cortez for the head butt. Thats what he is talking to the judges about. That is why he signaled his hand with 1 finger while looking ring side.

So far it seemed Mayweather was controlling the pace of the fight like he always does. The flurry before the headbutt was definitely the most active Ortiz had been. The headbutt was definitely intentional and dirty. The only reason i could see for Mayweather doing what he did is that he thought that his jaw could be legitimately broken and didn't want to take punishment for the rest of the fight.

He's bringing them to the center of the ring in order to restart the fight. He's not going to tell them to box when they're in their corners and then turn away.

Yes he restarts the fight there. It was poor officiating. The ref should have stayed in the fight and not turned to the ring side.

The bolded shouldn't get lost here either. Ortiz had no reason to headbutt there except for a loss of composure.

That said, Mayweather almost seemed frustrated. The fight was prob even on cards at that point, and I thought he looked a little "frazzled" at that point.

How many matches in recent history has Cortez been the ref in a PBF fight? The wierd "gotta tell ya to watch the elbows" pre fight talk between Cortez and PBF camp, Ortiz lack of being downright pissed and hugging on Mayweather after the fight??? Doesn't smell right to me.

I'm really suprised there wasnt a riot that would have resulted in fifty keepin it real

I haven't seen a replay of anything besides the clip posted in this thread, so i may be wrong.

But from what i remember, cortez withdrew the point instantly when ortiz headbutted, and motioned for the point-deduction way before (when floyd/ortiz was circling around the ring) that point.
The way i interpret the clip, hes just making the standard sign that the action is continued.

We will know for sure soon o guess. If he didn't actually start the fight again, theres gonna be a NC.

Can't you hear the ref saying '' let's go''..and like 1/4 of a second later clapping/bringing his hands together

cortez is legit, one of the top3 best refs in the sport. I don't think anything shady was going on. He ****ed up pretty much.
Him warning floyd about using his regular questionable dirtymoves is standard.

mexicans are too lazy to riot.

i kid i kid!

Clapping hands DOES not signal a restart. A restart is done with hand motion (normally a chopping or pointing motion) in conjunction with a word "box" or "fight" (or something similar) said simultaneously. No verbal declaration was made and the physical gesture was unclear, meaning that the fight was not restarted.

Thus the fight should be a no contest. Both fighters should lose their purse and the referee should be fined/suspended.

Well I didn't hear it (not saying it isn't there, I just didn't hear it when I watched it). None of that changes the fact that they were the entire ring apart and then he looks away. That's awful refereeing at best

MMA sucks. Less action starting to happen in those fights as well, resulting in descions. Fighters are starting to realize there is legit money to be had so they will minimize risk, and this Fox contract will only make it worse.

15 years ago there was controversy of a major fight being fixed in Vegas, when the dust settled Tupac got shot. What I am trying to say is R.I.P 50 Cent.

To people saying both fighters should lose their purse, that isn't allowed is it? I thought there was a limit like $3mil or something that the NBC could withhold.
