Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I thought Haye played it beautifully. Perfect revenge for Klitchsko making him wait so long in the ring before the fight, Haye made Klitchsko wait 12 rounds before Haye showed up in the fight. It should make for a great rematch where neither fighter shows up for anything until the post fight interview when Haye wins by point deduction for a Klitchsko put down remark.

It reminds me of when Hatton fought Mayweather. It started off with people thinking PBF is a class apart and Hatton is made for himetc, to it almost sounding like an even fight with all the build up. The odds came down so much for Hatton from the point the fight was made to the actual day it was amazing.

Yeah it happens pretty often in huge fights examples being Hopkins-De La Hoya and De La Hoya-Pacquiao. Of course it turned out that the Pacquiao fight was a rare exception. The vast majority of boxing experts thought that pac had no chance beforehand though.

Ricky Hatton I suppose, he only really beat one great, or even very good, fighter and he's probably second only to Lennox Lewis in terms of earnings.

Haye should have pulled out if he was injured. No use whining little a sore loser after. So embarrassing.

Still, +1 for UK support. Second to none.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I don't think pulling out was an option for Haye. If he did the Klitschkos would probably never want to deal with him again. People need to stop acting like he's the first boxer to complain about an injury after the fight, it happens all the time.

How long before the fight did he cancel the first one?

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

David Haye was about as big a disappointment as i had feared. He looked awful against Valuev, and quite bad against faded Ruiz.

I have no idea where people have gotten this idea that David Haye is a "fun" heavyweight. His punching output is extremely low, especially for his fitness level.

The fight was meh, but that was mostly because of Hayes refusal to engage. He just let Wladimir stalk him with the jab and occasional straight rights.

The pinky-toe excuse is laughable. David, just stfu, even if the injury is real. You will only look like a ****ing ******.
To me, it looked like he bounced around just fine on both feets, and i doubt a broken pinky-toe would have as much effect as he says. "one legged fighter" rofl.

Someone should tell David that if you plan on having excuses you shouldn't walk around the week before the fight (when the alleged injury occured 3 weeks ago) and say you are in the best shape of your life, and "no excuses". pfff.

David made the same mistakes as all of Wladimirs recent opponents. He froze up and fought to not get hurt rather than fight to win.

As for the talk of a rematch, that is silly. Is there a need for a rematch, when the opponent refuse to engage and win 1-2 rounds out of 12...

As for whats next:

Wladimir should fight Arreola. Arreola has looked quite good recently and his fitness level is way better than when he fought Vitali.
I feel Chisora/fury winner is waaay out of depth against Wladimir and that fight (esp with Fury) could be a big trashtalking kind of hypejob (as the haye fight was) later down the road.

David Haye should not retire, nor do i think he will. He should fight one of the better heavies (Someone with a pulse) like Helenius, Chambers or something like that.
If he looks good in such a fight i think a Vitali vs Haye fight could do very well.
David needs to stay busy. He can't afford to take the 1year layoffs at this point in his career.

(sorry for spelling mistakes, incoherrent stuff etc.. posting from a very crappy phone.)

well, vitali gave lewis all he could handle when lewis was still active so this statement is pretty much 100% false.

Klitschkos need someone that push them into fighting. Right now all they have to do is pop the jab and move their feet to outclass everyone.
David Haye put up less of an effort than most of Klitschkos opponents.

look at how vitali shined against LEwis. That happened because lewis forced him to actually fight.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Vitali was a late replacement for Kirk Johnson who pulled out injured and Lewis basically admitted not taking the training that seriously in the lead up to the fight. IIRC he weighed in really heavy (maybe his heaviest) and you could see after a few rounds he was out on his feet.

Not saying Vitali isn't a good fighter because I think he is and is underrated by alot of the boxing world but I wouldn't read too much into that fight with Lewis that night.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I'm only refuting the point that todays lewis could try to get in shape and still beat the klitschkos. I think that is totally ridiculos.

Lewis was not in the best shape of his life admittedly, but he also turned down a rematch worth 10++ million dollars which i think says something about how highly he think of vitalis skills.

Lewis was better than the klitschkos (most likey) and hes an top5 atg hw. But the klits are really good in their own right and people need to stop ****ting on them just because their foes don't bring out the best in them.

i always thought Vitali had a real shot at beating Lewis if they had a rematch, was so disappointed it didn't take place.

Obv prime Lewis beats both prime Klitschkos in 1 round. When they fought he was almost 40 and a bit overweight.

I like Lewis but he's not even in top 20 atg. You can't call great somebody who didn't fight his toughest rivals in their primes. His biggest wins are an old, washed up Holyfield and a semi-retired, overweight Tyson. Fight with Bowe in '94 didn't happen because Lewis lost to McCall. Some of his other wins were very controversial (Mercer, Holy rematch, Klitschko). And he got knocked out by two bums with a single punch. A good boxer, but not great.

I disagree with a lot of what you say and I would be very interested to see this list of top 20 heavies without Lennox Lewis's name on it.

Lennox Lewis was just a little bit less overrated as the Klitschko's. Like them, he won with his sheer size. But Lennox was slightly more skillfull.

So, in other words: Lennox Lewis would not have been as good as he was if he wasn't as good as he was.

I don't really get how anyone could hate him. He's one of the best fighters of all-time, really entertaining and funny, and backs up all of his **** talk.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I enjoy watching him fight when he is actually trying hard, he used to look phenomenal (Gatti and Corrales fights come to mind). He is one of the best of all time, but nowhere near as high as he, or his fans, think he should be.

I don't find him saying "i'm a gorilla, i'm a dawg, I'm a dog, I'm a gorilla" and other nonsense either entertaining or funny to be honest.

A lot of his smack talk he can't back up. A lot of it is about how he would've beaten Pacquiao, Cotto, Williams, Margarito, Tszyu etc. and how he's the best ever.
