Was super excited for this fight but it was sort of a let down, canelo pretty much just dominated the whole fight and nothing really happened until the 12th round.

Vitali I definitely think could hold his own in any era, losing to most of the best though. Wlad on the other hand, I don't see it - Wlad against someone like Lennox Lewis would be like a timid lamb against a lion.

Travelled to France to beat the cruiserweight champion, travelled to Germany to fight a heavyweight champion and now he's travelling to Germany again to fight the heavyweight who most people have at number 1. So I think that, although he doesn't have the greatest record of all time, calling him a cherry-picker is a bit ridiculous.

Personally I find him to be the most boring boxer in the sport today. He takes zero risks and just jabs his opponents until they can barely stand before he even thinks about stepping it up.

In summary, I think it's very clear that we have wildly different opinions on Klitschko and Haye lol.

Pretty much agree with all that NoJacket.

I don't like Haye that much but it's good to have someone like him around.

Without a doubt, Vitalis toughness is something Wladimir has lacked in the past (and probably still do).

Wladimirs technical skill is far greater, and he punches harder than his brother.

Wladimirs shortcomings in the past (brewster, sanders etc) comes mostly from not fighting like a tall fighter should. That is now corrected since hes been with (probably) the best trainer for the style.

I'm not saying Vitali and Wladimir would beat a guy like prime-Lews (who i consider to be top3-5 in the history of hws) but that they would be a tough match for any ATG hws.

Hes bailed out several times from a fight against both Klitschkos, even with written contracts. I'm still not even sure the fight will happen 2 july, remember what happened the summer of 09.

He bails out of a "done deal" negotiation with Vitali, to sign to fight Valuev, clearly the weakest champ of this hw era.

Fights shot John Ruiz. This one i can understand since Ruiz (somehow) was a mandatory. But wba has said in the past mandatory defences could be overlooked for a big lineal fight.

The fight Audley Harrison. A top100-200 heavyweight, instead of a real challenge.

With all the twists and turns and his heavyweight resume, It's hard not to come to the conclusion David Haye is a pain in the ass and prefers to take the easy route. Cherry picker? Ye maybe.

You also make it sound like fighting outside of england is special. If you challenge for a title, it probably should not be in your backyard. It could happen but it should be a reason for it (economical etc)

Yes.

I used to like David Haye, but all the bull**** he has been involved with have left a sour taste with me. Kudos for finally stepping up, but It's like 2 years late.
I even see a lot of brits turning on Haye on other boxingforums. Which is quite telling seeing how extremely biased the UK media is on this subject.

TL;DR yes we disagree.. i don't like David Haye.

For sure. I just don't want him as the lineal champ.

David Haye vs. Wladimir
David Haye vs. Vitali

Then relegate Haye to being just a topfighter in the division. Fighting guys like Arreola, Helenius and Chambers.

He is definitely good for the division.

You have made several posts about him. I think that says it all tbh

When's the last time you talked so much about a heavyweight contest? Just embrace the fact we have a heavyweight fight worth talking about.

Yes, i have made several posts about him. What does that tell you?
Did i ever say David Haye is uninteresting to me?

I do not respect him. I think he is overrated, and his resume is extremely lacking. I think hes been ducking both Klitschkos for years.

I think hes fun to watch, explosive and fast tho lacking on the technical and tactical side.
I think this fight is awesome, and clearly stated that in this thread.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Who else could he have fought in the heavyweight division leading up to fighting either brother? The British public bought into the Audley Harrison fight so why not get the big pay day? Personally I don't think he was injured and did duck the fights with the brothers but it's because he realised he needed a few tune up fights at this weight to make him feel comfortable and get some confidence (not that he's lacking it ).

Some will call him a coward (entitled) I would call it being smart.

In the summer of 09 it is pretty much assumed that he pulled out because of the collapse of Setanta, the tv channel showing the fight, and he didn't want to risk not getting paid. That is the only time he has pulled out of a fight with Wlad.

Regarding Vitali, apparently they had a verbal agreement but the contract offered to Haye was not what they agreed so he fought Valuev instead. Obviously this is just Haye's word against Vitali's so who knows what to believe? Boxers and promoters lie so much.

With all my defending of him I'm worried that I am starting to sound like a Haye fanboy.

Yes I agree, it should not be seen as special. However, it kind of is for a British fighter to do it. The usual way for a Brit to do it is to pick up a vacant title fighting at home or bring over a weak champion like Khan did with Kotelnik.

How about any top10 fighter?

His entire resume at heavyweight is a big joke, and I'm not banking the future of the hw division on such a guy.

He is obviously being smart. Hes basically talked his way into superstar status. That don't take away the fact that hes cherrypicking (imo).

Yeah, and so he is allegedly lying to get out of a fight.
And why not re-schedule the fight? Wladimir has been calling him out ever since.

When a guy spout as much BS and lies as DH, i will take the other sides version as the lesser lie.

I don't know, with both the Klitschko bros calling Haye out for several years, i doubt they are to blame for it not happening. Especially when they keep fighting the highest ranked opposition and Haye fights bums.

Quote:

It's fine, thats what this thread is for. If everyone agreed on everything it would be kind of boring.

Yeah i agree.

Kotelnik is not that bad actually. Salita on the other hand, JFC

I guess we can all agree on Wladimir - Haye being an awesome fight. And regardless of David Hayes previous antics, i will respect him if he actually steps into the ring.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

They're both already winners. I think I read somewhere that they'll be getting around £10 million (or it might have been 15) each, which is a hell of a lot more than if they had fought 2 years ago.

.
