I'm sorry Ortiz is not canadian, but hes pretty good regardless. The best fight out there for both Floyd and Manny if we disregard the obvious fight and the one none of them wants to take, Martinez.

Sooo... I guess this means we probably get Ortiz vs Pacquiao for May 2012?
i kid i kid

interesting to see if Mayweather will demand the same tests for this fight as he did with Many and Mosley.
Probably can't afford not to.

i dunno i guess its just the initial reaction after seeing "my fans have been waiting long enough", seeing mayweathers name, and then seeing hes not fighting manny.

Ya, but the point is May is fighting a young, hungry champ(albeit outclassed) where Manny has been fighting bum after bum. Ortiz is a more legit fight than Manny's last 4 opponents combined.

He sure will, especially since he knows Ortiz can't really afford to decline a test.

It's a really good fight. Regardless of all the manny/floyd drama.
Right now i don't give a **** that Pacquiao fights a blown up junior lightweight. This fight is great on it's on merits.

I wanted this fight for Pacquiao and i'm not about to be a hypocrite when Floyd comes back after 16 months to fight him.

Miguel Cotto >>> Victor Ortiz, and that fight was very close through 5. Let's not get ridiculous.

cotto was a good fight. I like Ortiz better as an opponent than mosley, margs, clottey and marquez tho at the current state. (why does everything have to be manny vs floyd.. **** boxing.)

Because they're the two best fighters in the world and they're in the same weight class. There is no reason for them not to fight.

As long as that fight doesn't happen, right or wrong, the sport will have a dark cloud hanging over it, while its closest mainstream PPV competitor at the moment consistently produces best-vs-best matchups.

The Manny vs. Floyd saga has shown the world everything that's wrong with the modern state of boxing. What could've been the fight to save boxing has instead turned into the tragedy that's expediting the suicide proceedings.

obv referring to JMM fight coming up as he is an announced opponent. So yes, Victor Ortiz >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> JMM, SSM, Tony, Clottey. As for the Cotto fight meh catchweight of 145 brah and Cotto hasn't been the same since the Margarito fight so right now Ortiz is a better opponent for either Pac or May, and that fight was close through 5? LOL Pacquiao got knockdowns in the 3rd and 4th round brah

I don't wanna jump on the "boxing is dying" bandwagon. The sport is doing just fine, although it would ofcourse be a ****ing joke and disaster if Floyd vs Manny did not happen.

Just looking at the upcoming "guaranteed fights" we have to look forward to:

Klitschko - Haye
Klitschko - Adamek
Mayweather - Ortiz
Pacquiao - Marquez
Khan - Judah
Cotto - Margarito/Martinez
Ward - Froch
Hopkins - Dawson

I think It looks to be a pretty great second half of 2011. And add to that Donaire, Bradley etc etc will most likely fight top opponents, Bob Arum and Golden Boy being best buddies again etc.

We knew Floyd vs Manny wouldn't happen this year, so I'm gonna be pretty stoked about the Ortiz fight. After that, who they gonna fight? Bradley who don't even have the balls to fight Khan?

Cotto was winning the 4th until Pacquiao floored him. Gasp, I know, shocking how a fight can drastically change like that in a heartbeat.

Ortiz has the power to hurt Floyd and Floyd does have trouble with southpaws so that's interesting. However, Ortiz has a lot of technical flaws that Floyd will expose. Lets not forget he had a draw with Lamont f'n Peterson (I had Ortiz winning, but still) and quit versus Maidana.

If Floyd is on his A game, then this is an easy UD for him, imo. But with the long layoff, ring rust could play a big factor.

who do you see as Canelo's first "big" fight?

I'm just thinking, remember how we thought Pac-Cotto and PBF-JMM were de facto semifinals for a superfight? lol, it's hard not to think the same way again as a delusional optimist.

I mean, what is a big fight?

If you mean a tough fight against toplevel competition with some relevancy I've heard rumors of both Martirosyan and Angulo. Both would seem like good choices and with golden boy and top rank making peace, would be doable.
I don't know however, what Angulos current status is. Hes had some problems.

If you mean big as in big$$$ or him facing a star, then both Cotto and Margarito don't seem too farfetched for 2012.

The 65/75 million for fighting Pacquiao, i laugh off as complete BS. But who knows.

What do you think? Golden boy is doing the right thing, bringing him up slowly. But he needs to step up in competition soon.

I think he'd murder Martirosyan... i really don't know who his first challenge will be

if he fought vanes in LA it would be a pretty big fight. vanes from whta i've read looked realllll shaky this past weekend

Kermit Cintron is still a tough fight for anyone. What a headcase tho.

If hes successful in his comeback I wouldn't mind seeing him against Alvarez either.

[ ] close through the 5th round

Neways, if May and Pac never fight, thats fine as long as they fight live opponents instead of blown up featherweights, slow guys coming off losses, or 40 year olds way past their prime. Victor is young, in his prime and coming off a great performance.

Thoughts on Amir vs. Zab???

Cintron is lol on so many levels but he beats Canelo imo, so GB can't really put him in there vs Froggy just yet. I expect both Chavez Jr and Canelo to keep fighting bums until they inevitably meet, now that Oscar and Arum are bff
