Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

about the ringwalks for Mosley-Pac: lolcbsplugaments. It does make sense that old school LL Cool J would do the Mosley walk, but I had heard that Rick Ross was supposed to do the Pacquiao walk music. I wonder if it was sho/cbs that pulled the plug on this or not.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

From what I've gathered via google, Pacquiao has had problems with leg stiffness going back to his fights with Marquez. The problem recurred in training camp prior to the Clotty fight but was ok during the fight. Then it recurred again during the Margarito fight. Pacquiao said that when he did the work on his legs that he needed to do it solved the problem. In my mind, the story for his fight with Mosley is this; How in the world does Freddie Roach, the best trainer in boxing, fail to make absolutely positively 100% sure that the necessary work on Pacquiao's legs is done in training camp?

It's a tribute to Pacquiao's ability that he beat up on Mosley with no lateral movement. He attacked up the middle evidently not for tactical reasons but because that's the only route his legs made available to him. It's like he was fighting with one hand tied behind his back. Even with Mosley putting on one hell of an exhibition of bicycling backwards, Pacquiao left Mosley's face looking like a hemorrhoid in need of piercing. However, Floyd Mayweather is no Shane Mosely and if they ever make that fight Pacquiao is going to need every weapon in his arsenal. If he fights Mayweather on one leg he will get killed. All of Roach's fancy strategizing will be worth zip if Roach again fails to get Pacquiao's legs in shape.

By Abac Cordero (The Philippine Star) Updated May 11, 2011

Abac Cordero quotes Roach as saying Marquez III is the best next fight for Pacquiao because of their history. Maybe at 143-145. There's a report Mayweather wants Ortiz in September. It's already been a year since Mayweather's last fight and he might want a tuneup fight before Pacquiao - if he actually intends to ever fight him.

Unfortunately, it's apparently false.

Pacquiao-Ortiz would be pretty good, obviously Pac destroys him but it would be fun while it lasts. Just one of many great fights that can't happen in the near future because of the Top Rank-Golden Boy war, **** those guys.

Sounds like Mayweather ought to stay in the ring as much as possible. It looks like it's about the only place he's safe from being arrested or sued.

Oh well, they'll reap what they sow in the very near future. This sport as a big-ticket main attraction is slowly dying.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

my opinion and it might be totally wrong... but IF pac and may get it on in the ring... why wouldn't we expect a 12 round decision borefest? it's both fighter's MO

I just foresee it as not meeting the mountainous hype that would come ...

it would be many rounds of pac throwing tons of punches, may fighting defensively, and sneaking in his shots. probably a split decision, even possible draw. either that or some bs stops it early

although i credit x for the greatest moment i've ever enjoyed in a sportsbook, if not sportsbetting entirely, with his defeat of tarver. was at caesars, it seemed everyone had a ticket with x on it, yet the line was still heavily against him. i had him and the over

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

If only he'd shut his mouth and fight, I'd have a ton of respect for him. He's a great fighter because he'll literally take on anyone. From a purely sports perspective, that's admirable.

But once again, these comments are disgusting and I'm hoping now, more than ever, that Pascal knocks him into retirement once and for all.

What's going on with the heavyweights? Could Tyson/Holyfield still step in and become champ again? lol

HW division is looking good right now. There are 3 3/4 fighters who are head and shoulders above the rest of the division and they're facing each other in their next match. Wlad Klitschko vs. David Haye in front of over 60,000 fans in July. Then Vitali Klitschko vs. Tomasz Adamek (the lesser of the 4 boxers) in September. If either Haye or Adamek wins they'll face the other Klitschko brother to unify the title (not that a unified champion really matters, but the fight would be huge.)

And to your second question. No.

Level? Vitaly is 40 and the biggest fight of his career was a loss to 37 y.o. overweight Lummox. Adamek is a cruiserweight and in HW he hasn`t really beaten anyone except some 40 y.o. boxers that were maybe good (but not great) 10 years ago. David Gaye doesn`t like boxing and already announced that he`s retiring in October.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Can people who know about boxing tell me about how good Haye & the Klitschko's are in comparison to past HW champions? (And who's going to win)

Also, is there any reason why there doesn't seem to be any big HW challenges coming from America? The last champion I am aware of was Ruiz who was destroyed by Haye so I'm a little confused as I have the impression that historically the US dominated the division.

I love watching big boxing fights but know very little about the sport really.

LOL Sky.

Expecting people to pay £15 to watch Nathan Cleverly fight Braehmer and then one of the most overrated/over-hyped fights in British boxing featuring two absolute tools. DeGale and Groves.

I might need to be paid to watch.

anyone else a big fan of saul "canelo" alvarez? i think he could be the face that brings boxing up a lot if this mayweather/pacquaio situation leaves a sour taste with many people. him being a likeable young mexican also helps a ton

HBO bit on Canelo:

We don't really know how good the current Wladimir is, because he is mostly untested in this weak era of heavyweights.
Hes very solid technically, fights like a tall man should and packs ATG power in his punches. I also think his jab could be one of the best in hw history.

I personally think he could hang in any era, but I'm almost certain hes not a top10 atg skillwise.

As for Haye. His best win is Mormeck. That says alot.
Haye is somewhat exciting, but he has built most of his hype and fame through running his mouth. His punches are wild and loopy, and his punchingpower is imo completely overrated. Rumor has it hes been KO'd in training (with headgear on) by several heavyweights, but who knows about that.
Haye will get destroyed. By either Klitschko.

Regarding american heavyweights, i don't know. People will usually tell you it's because basketball and football takes most of the hw talents away from boxing, and i guess there could be some truth to that.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Wlad is very dominant in this era, but his legacy will be as possibly the most boring heavyweight champion ever. He even said that he would jab and grab Haye for 12 rounds, great salesman.

He also has a weak chin and is very timid. Can you imagine what someone with great power like Tyson, Lewis or Foreman would have done to him??

Vitali has more of a fighting heart than his little brother, but his fights are usually pretty boring as well.

On Wlad-Haye, I think a lot will depend on whether Haye can take Wlad's power. Haye hasn't been hit flush by such a big man before. Another crucial factor will be how much holding the referee lets Wlad get away with (another reason why he is so boring). Anytime Haye manages to get inside, Wlad will hug him like he's his mother.
