Pretty sure in Pacquiao's case, not fighting Martinez has nothing to do with lack of balls and everything to do with the fact that he's simply too big.

I mean, the fact that you acknowledge Martinez's biggest fights in the future are probably against guys like Bute, Ward, Froch, Kessler or Hopkins should probably indicate that Pacquiao would be biting off far more than he can chew.

I just want to see Bute get a big name bout, he deserves one.

I mean, I realize there are far more factors at work than just pure talent, but his exclusion from the Super Six was laughable.

This is his first fight of a three fight deal with Showtime I think. So I assume he will go Magee, another soft touch, Super six winner.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Im kinda hoping that now we have Haye v Wlad set up it will have a snowballing effect on Boxing and get some of these other good fights signed up. 2011 COULD be so good if people would just get their finger out and make things happen.

Yep, last I heard Eamonn Magee got bashed by a baseball bat and then went to prison.

Didn't even realise he had a World Title fight. Just saw it on the news there now. Shame on me

Froch is one of a rare breed of fighters who will happily fight anyone. Shane Mosley and Glen Johnson are others that come to mind. He may be arrogant and have an ugly style but I have maximum respect for him.

Tweet from Steve Farhood:

"Saturday: Bute on points. I talked to him yesterday and he was excited that Mikkel Kessler will be ringside. His next opponent?"

Now that would be interesting.

Hes not really that much bigger than Margarito tho.
I don't blame either Mayweather nor Pac for not fighting Martinez. But then at the same time i don't put any weight to Mannys 154 title neither.

Well, that's more because 154 and 160 lack star quality (outside of the names Martinez already fought. Whos left? A wornout Cotto?) than Martinez being especially huge. Hes a career 154lbs fighter.

Martinez stepping up to fight the super6 winner would be huge.
I mean he already gave up alot of size against Pavlik.

For what it's worth. I think both Floyd and Manny would be biting off more than they could chew against Martinez. Hes simply a p4p great 154/160lbs fighter. Nothing like Margarito or Shane Mosley.

Didn't that have more to do with him being a HBO fighter than anything else?

Bute vs Kessler would be pretty cool. I think Mikkel is back from his injury now.

Didn't think Bute or InterBox had HBO exclusivity at the time, but maybe I'm wrong. Afaik, he just wasn't invited.

you realise after the Margarito fight Pacman was lay up with severe pain to his ribs/body and Roach has said he won't fight at 154 again.

look at the size difference between Margarito and Pac, if you think Martinez is only the same size as Margarito that is still a huge huge advantage v Pacman.

did Pacquiao make 154 last time or was he 7/8lbs under?

Quote:
wiki
Pacquiao weighed in at a low 144.6 pounds, while Margarito weighed in at the limit of 150 pounds. Pacquiao said he was pleased with his weight because he loses too much speed when he gains pounds. During the fight itself, Pacquiao weighed 148 lbs, 17 pounds lighter than Margarito's 165
answered my own question.

above is the reason asking to see Pacman v Martinez is ******ed and saying Pacman has no balls for taking such a fight on is a joke.

He weighed in at 144.5 and weighed 148 on fight night. The fight was at catchweight at 150, Pacquiao has never fought properly at 154.

V. Klitschko vs Solis is on tomorrow night, live on Sky for any Brits interested. It will probably be a typical Klit fight, though Solis is very skilled, it's just a shame he has turned into a lazy fatty since defecting from Cuba.

Yeah, there's one fight left for Pacquiao and we all know who it is. Sadly, with each passing day, looks less and less likely.

answered my own question.
Where do i say Pacquiao or Mayweather is obliged to fight Martinez?
Martinez is too good of a big guy, that's all there is to it. Manny/Floyd can fight bigger guys as long as they know their opponent can't deal with their skills.

If you want to call yourself the WBC 154lbs champ however, i find it odd that you won't fight the rightful owner to the said title in said weightclass.

I don't think Manny should fight Martinez. I think that would be an extremely poor decision (so would it be for Mayweather).

I didn't say Pacman had no balls. Hes a very brave fighter. (fwiw, i think it would be equally "******ed" to think that Mayweather would fight Martinez)

He just does not dare to fight Martinez. Probably a wise choice since i think he would be knocked out.
Both Floyd and Manny have a lot to lose against Martinez. Their status, and possibly their massappeal when it comes to ppv-buys.

Question. Would anyone here consider Martinez the P4P #1 if he beat the super6 winner? (scenario includes Mayweather-Pacquiao not happening)

No, because a) Super Six doesn't even include the best super middleweight in the world right now until proven otherwise (Bute) and b) Pacquiao has simply been too damn impressive in dismantling everyone he fights.

I'd be willing to put Martinez at #2 behind Pac, but ahead of Mayweather and Donaire.

And don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Martinez fan, I think he's great for boxing and I try my best to see him every time he fights. My type of athlete-boxer. But Pacquiao has to be #1, I just can't envision any way he's not.

And obviously if Pacquiao beats Mayweather, he's the clear undisputed #1 P4P of the modern era.

Yeah don't see how you can remove Pacman from the No1 spot right now. Still dominant in every fight he is involved in no matter if they are bigger than him. Martinez is kinda new to me but Im really impressed with the recent fights Ive watched.

It's a bit biased to say Bute is the best super middle don't you think?

OK, if Martinez fights Bute then? Would that make it better?

As a whole career, i would say Pacquiao is greater by far. But his best wins are long gone, and Martinez wins against Kelly Pavlik, Paul Williams and hypothetically "thebestsupermiddleweightintheworld" would be way more awesome than Cotto, Hatton and Clottey.
I guess it's pointless speculation. P4P is a fantasy title after all. I just hope Martinez get the recognition among casualfans that i think he deserves.

As per your ranking. I don't even consider Mayweather an active fighter anymore. He shouldn't even be ranked.
Donaire is awesome.

I agree, most rankings have Andre Ward ahead of Bute. It's a bit mad to call Bute the undisputed number one when his best wins are only against Edison Miranda and Librado Andrade. Untill he fights the winner of the super six it's all guesswork.

Pacquiao and his camp has shown very clearly they think a fight vs Martinez is completely ridiculous and just not realistic.
They like to chant about "omg super welterweight champ of the world, better than henry ****ing armstrong!!!! Manny PACMAN Pacquiao" but in all honesty, he could not hang with a truly skilled 154+ guy like Martinez.

I think for Martinez, if he wants a big payday and career-defining fight, he needs to look at the super6 winner or possibly even Hopkins if hes successful in his rematch with Pascal.
Cotto/Margarito winner for a 154 strap could be fine too, but their status in the boxingworld just isn't what it used to be.
Shane Mosley would fight Martinez in a heartbeat if he pulls out the miracle against Pac, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Simply put. Neither Mayweather nor Pacquiao have the balls to fight Martinez. Not considering their current position and status in this current boxingworld.

Yeah, lol. Ward has zero draw. And he deserves just that, the way he is fighting.
must have been the other 1up that said Manny has no balls to fight Martinez.

do you not even see if Manny fought and lost to a much bigger Martinez, he still loses no appeal whatsoever?

--

World series of Boxing just starting now Paris V Milan, John Joe Nevin fighting for Paris.

i've not watched any of this until now, so have no idea what the set up is.

have a link if anyone wants it.
