EZ game. Pac-Mayweather. No doubt. There's only one GSP fight left that will grab my attention and that's GSP-Silva. GSP-Shields won't be as exciting as I first thought, because I didn't realize how overrated Shields really is.

btw, GSP worked with Freddie Roach for this fight and he basically took Koscheck to stand-up school. It was awesome. All of my MMA fanboy buddies were like "wtf is this ****" and I was just lovin' it. Death by a thousand perfect jabs.

Yeah if you want to see a great application of boxing to MMA watch the GSP/Koscheck fight.

Both were pretty evenly matched as far as wrestling ability, and mostly nullified each other's takedowns. Because of that, nearly the entire fight was standing. The difference: GSP is an amazing wrestler with amazing boxing and Muay Thai, while Koscheck was just an amazing wrestler with a predictable looping right hand. GSP rearranged Josh's face and welded his right eye shut with a beautiful, technically perfect jab all night.

This is an unfair question because it's "possibly the greatest, most hyped boxing fight of all time" vs. "GSP destroys another challenger the same way he's destroyed everyone".

It'd be like staging a "boxing vs. soccer" question, but making the question "would you rather watch Mike Tyson fight a 10-1 underdog or watch England v Brazil in the world cup final?" Not the same level.

I was amazed that the Mandalay staff allowed it, I was sure someone would put a stop to it at some point. I really hope HBO or Mandalay confiscates these things in the future.

My thoughts as well. Can you imagine paying for a ticket to the fight then finding yourself sitting in front of a guy blaring an air-horn in your ear the whole fight? I'm suprised there weren't rampant fights breaking out in the crowd over the nuisances. I did notice the horn blowing seemed to go away around the 9th round so maybe there was some confiscation that went on. I just hope it doesn't get to be a custom.

Khan's chin seemed to hold up pretty well. If he wanted a fight to test it Maidana sure gave it to him.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Seen bits of the fight, seemed like a great test for Khan, Maidana was no mug and tested Khan which is what he needed.

"His trainer Freddie Roach thinks Khan is now good enough to beat undefeated multi-weight champion Floyd Mayweather. "

Please no, Khan needs some more fights like the other night, still needs to improve. Maybe in 2~3 years he will be ready, although PBM would of properly really really retired

DeGale impressed me, we might have another good boxer on the up! I think you need to be a bit of a **** to be good at boxing. Nice guys dont last e.g. Bruno

ehhhh, I donno about that. Put him in with someone like marquez, pac, or **** even floyd and he's going down. Madaina just doesn't have the accuracy or intelligence to realize that when he had him in trouble 40 haymakers to khans glove< a few well timed/placed power shots. He had him on queer street and just went all mike jones on him.

My uncle called me yesterday asking me where I was watching UFC (family has lots of fight fans). I said nowhere, there's boxing. haha

Having had time to think about last night's fights. The showtime bantamweight tourney lived up to what I expected. Great job for showtime and the fighters. The fighters make for pretty good match ups. I was glad that Agbeko was able to adjust in the rematch to out box perez. Perez/Darchinyan and Agbeko/Mares should be really good, really looking forward to that. Super six should have been elimination from the get go too (may a super 8). Really disliked Khan before last night, but showed he has a lot a heart and he needs respect for that. I liked Maidana before last night and I like him even more after the fight.
Showtime tournament is ****ing awesome. Also wish super 6 was single elimination so these bitches couldn't bow out as they have.

Khan pretty boy right now is a joke. Khan would hit the deck about as many times as corrales before roach threw in the towel. His recuperative skills are better, but that chin is still ****in weak.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Khan a few years ago would have hit the deck with some of those shots he took. Can he take a flurry of accurate shots that better fighters would throw? Probably not, but you cannot say on that display his chin hasn't improved from his early pro days.

I didn't say his chin hasn't improved, I said it was still weak as **** which it is. He can definitely take a shot better now but thats not his chin, its strength and conditioning along with not struggling to make 135 anymore. If he gets in trouble like that against a good finisher, one with even a little less power than marcos, he is royally ****ed. He was getting tagged cleanly from haymakers while fighting an opponent with no defense. Pacman would just rape him, Floyd would systematically pick him apart, steal his soul, then check hook him into a turnbuckle. He has a shot against marquez due to sheer size, strength and age, but I guarantee u if marquez ever got him in trouble like that, its good ****ing night.

I guess we might disagree on what "chin" constitutes. If you mean his overall ability to take a shot then fine. I'm referring solely to what happens when he gets caught clean on the button. Those chicken legs are still in full effect.

Re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Not only that, but unlike the marquez brothers, who fight back and usually get the better of their opponents when wobbled, or floyd who is intelligent and will tie you up till he gets his bearings back, khan decided to do neither and just try to run away without throwing, while refusing to tie him up. It's like he wants to show his heart and balls, but his actually chin will betray him if he's in there against a real elite finisher.

Most people when hit clean, wobble to some effect.

All im saying is he has improved from those early days, I dont really know what you are trying to say that I havent already agreed with.

Wobble to some effect is such an arbitrary statement to make. To say that most will give the funky chicken dance when hit like that is just a lie though.

I also don't know what you are arguing either as I never said his ability to take a punch hasn't improved.

I guess maybe I should have included maidana in there in exchange for ortiz, although I think Ortiz could potentially win the rematch between them.

Sounds like the min and a half GSP - kos 2 highlight clip on yahoo was enough to show what happened. LOL @ kos for attempting a right hand lead and then getting nailed with a gsp jab. Kos' orbital bone was probably broken already.

I think you'll enjoy the Maidana - Khan fight. Watch Mares - Darchinyan too if you can.

I was wrong about Maidana, but oh so close. If Khan fought corrales, I think corrales would have beat him down before Khan could get to him. Corrales was slightly taller than Khan, but had way better boxing than Maidana. I would say his power was probably comparable to Maidana, even tho Chico was a LW. Roach's talk about Mayweather is BS. I don't know if Khan can even beat the Bradley/Alexander winner. That should be the next fight for Khan.

Is the correct answer Tyson? That's what I would have chosen

Khan's chin is still suspect for sure. His heart, however, is not. I think he got through the 10th rd because of his conditioning and awareness that he needed to get on his bike and/or put on the earmuffs when Maidana landed. Against Prescott, he did not try to run, he engaged and got KTFO.

i just watched khan fight for the 1st time ever. not impressed at all. if he ever fights a hungry brother from the hood he would get killed.

while watching the fight, i kept thinking 'mayweather would knock this boy out in 1 round'

Find out soon enough who Pacman is fighting next.

Quote:
Promoter Bob Arum has already booked the MGM Grand Garden to stage the pound-for-pound king's next fight on April 16, following November's one-sided battering of Antonio Margarito, which left the Mexican needing surgery on a shattered eye socket.

Arum and trainer Freddie Roach will fly out to Manila later this week to hold talks with Pacquiao regarding terms and conditions from Shane Mosley, Andre Berto and Juan Manuel Marquez.
