They discussed that on MMA Hour - it seems like the rules (short rounds, quick breaks, you can hold with one hand and punch (?)) are all about having people just smash each other in the face as much as possible. Sounds insane.

I kind of suspect it will sink without trace or end up getting fairly popular.

I'm banking on the former. Not enough money in it to get people to go bareknuckle over gloves. Plus, careers would be way shorter due to an increase in broken hands, broken facial bones and permanent eye damage.

Guess people might argue that there's less head trauma since people would be encouraged to not throw as hard in order to protect their hands but athletes don't think rationally. They're willing to risk everything for success.

I remember watching some Kimbo Slice fights. One guy ended up with his eye hanging out of the socket

There's still a bareknuckle scene in the UK. Obviously it's very amateur but they do have paramedics at the events and it's somewhat organised. I don't know a huge amount about it but I was made aware of a guy called Decca Heggie so have watched some of his fights on YouTube.

How would Johnny Nelson have coped with a ring that size ?

Dillian Whyte vs Luis Ortiz. July 28th in the UK. Great fight.

Whyte is a bum, Ortiz within 6 unless Wilder has stolen his soul

Whyte's got a solid chin and is a name fighter. He should be able to push Ortiz before getting KOed.

GGG lost his IBF belt and Canelo's supposedly gonna fight Jacobs.

Guess we can say that GGG ducked the first fighter of his career.

Dan Rafael was wrong, Dillian Whyte is fighting Joseph Parker instead.

Golovkin ducked Andre Ward hard for a good while.

Wouldn't know. Never seen him fight.

Though Ukraine is churning out top class fighter after fighter as of late. Wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being a new top tier fighter at MW.

-------------------------

In other news, Tyson Fury weighed in at 276 1/2 pounds, highest weigh in of his career. His opponent? 210 pounds

To put that into perspective, Fury's weight was 247 against Klitschko.

If Seferi can get through the first few rounds, he has a slim chance at grabbing a decision or even a win if Tyson has a heart attack after gassing out.

I rarely say this in this situation but the corner was smart stopping the fight.

Seferi couldn't even touch, let alone hurt Fury and Fury was hurting Seferi without even putting his weight behind his shots. Seferi was a body for Fury to destroy. A knockout (probably in the next round) was inevitable.

Get the paycheck and keep being a journeyman. That's the best Seferi's got.
