Nice one for Pascal. Got lucky with the headbutt. I don't know if Dawson would have gotten the KD/KO, but it's unfortunate we didn't get to find out. Dawson came on too late anyways...

Hopefully Chad learns from the loss and comes back hungry and aggressive.

If Bute/Pascal gets done, I think Bute is the better boxer so I expect him to win, but he would be moving up. It would be interesting.

EDIT: Just found out there's a rematch clause, so we will see these 2 fight again.

he instigated the last headbutt wayyy more than pascal, plus he got warned twice for lowblows.

bull**** imo.

I hope bute and pascal dont fight each other, spread the montreal love around more imo.

Finally Dawson is exposed. He has no heart and no killer instinct and that won't cut it against top competition. He's lucky he never did get to fight Calzaghe because he would have gotten humiliated. Dawson showed what kind of character he has at the end when he whined and complained and made outrageous claims like he was going to get a KO at any moment.

His trainer was awful the entire fight. There was no urgency. "I need these last two rounds" What? You needed a KO. The fight was not close.

Harold Lederman complained afterwards that he thought it was an "ugly fight" while last week's Cloud-Johnson was a "real fight". I disagree. I thought Pascal's style was the most interesting, and entertaining I've seen in the Light Heavyweight division since Roy Jones Jr. The fight held my interest throughout while I semi-slept through the Cloud-Johnson ordeal watching a not too talented younger guy with gas plod through a never too interesting old warhorse who ran out of gas.

HBO needs to get off its high horse and get on this Pascal guy. So he's probably no Roy Jones Jr and he can't match the work rate of a Calzaghe or Pacquiao. But he manages what energy he's got to produce exciting and bold attacks throughout the fight. Of course we'd like to see more of them but with all the plodding predictable fights around it's a breath of fresh air to watch what Pascal can do when he does it.

I don't think Dawson ever had Pascal in trouble in the 11th. Dawson had punched himself out landing blows on Pascal's gloves and elbows. Before the head butt stopped it I was expecting Pascal to come back and possibly even win the 11th. I would not have been suprised if it had been Pascal putting Dawson down before the bell.

being a big pascal fan and having seen all his recent fights I have to say he can get wobbly at times and I was definitely worried during the first half of the 11th round.

The uppercut that nailed him in the center of the ring was really scary :0

I can't disagree. This was the first I've seen of him. I thought he had weathered the storm well by the time of the head butt though.

Absolutely. If boxing is gonna stay somewhat relevant, they need entertaining fights. HBO basically has a stranglehold over the future of boxing (at least in the USA). If they wanted to showcase more entertaining fights, it's easy...Have entertaining fighters fight (like pascal) AND incentivize knockouts/entertaining fights.

If the promoters don't like it, they have nowhere else to go. HBO has all the leverage. Promoters/boxers need HBO a looot more than HBO needs them. Use that to their advantage...Force the best to fight the best if they want to do business with HBO. Because if there's no HBO, boxing is practically irrelevant in the US.

boxing became non-relevant when they started recognizing all sorts of random titles.

should be only WBA, WBC and IBA, not wbo, ibc or any other 3 letter organization that has popped up representing boxing in the last 20 or so years.

even if first 3 organizations were somewhat corrupt, the talent pool was not being diluted like has happened.

having every half decent fight require a $12.99/month movie service or $44.95 outright for one event isn't helping either.

all of ali's biggest fights were on ABC (i.e. free, over the air tv)

I just watched a replay. Yeah, Pascal was stunned by the uppercut, but he didn't go down. Pascal does have a solid chin. Like I said, it would have been an interesting final 4 minutes if there wasn't a butt.
