IDK if trout just has really great defense or what but cotto just never looked as tenacious as normal to me. I attribute a lot to the weight but gonna be interesting to see if anyone else can get past trout's defense too he might just be elite after all. His promoter is happiest man in the world

i think cotto is done, he already said before this fight he will be walking away from boxing 'soon'

unless one last big money fight pops up at a weight class below then i think he'll walk

Every boxer says that crap and they still hang around. Even if they don't, they'll always come back for at least one more fight.

I think he's done too. I thought he was gonna beat trout and have one last payday vs. canelo on cinco de mayo that I assumed he would lose as the aging veteran to the young upstart like always happens in boxing but now I don't know any fights that make sense. IF they really wanted too they could still do the fight and prob get plenty of buys but Cotto just didn't look good in there tonight vs. the bigger man. I don't know who else he would fight. I guess Cotto-Khan has never happened lol maybe amir can come up to 147. OF course he would have 5 times the speed advantage on cotto but then again maidana is like an inferior form of cotto (at least prime cotto) and that was a great fight.

I'm happy with any combination of Martinez, Canelo, Trout, Mayweather fighting each other. Hopefully we get two matches from those 4, and then the winners face off.

true although he's been 'hanging around' for a year now, cotto said he would retire at 30, he's 31 now + didn't look all that great vs this trout guy i don't see him fighting at this weight again, maybe weight below if he can make that

i think he's made it clear that family >>>>>>>>>>>> money > boxing in a lot of his most recent(ish) interviews

Cotto could have his hands cut off and still sell out MSG. He's probably the 3rd or 4th biggest draw in the sport now even with his loss to Trout. As long as the paychecks are big, he ain't going anywhere.

Really, where do most boxers go after they "retire"? Most of them have no employable skills or business sense outside of the sport. All most boxers know is boxing and that's why people like Evander Holyfield still fight when they're nearly 50 years old.

to be fair holyfield had like 15 kids..cotto really seems like a family man but who knows could be all bs. Either way I think he fights again considering he told jim gray he htought he won and told him to ask MSG who they thought won. I don't think he wants to admit defeat, I think he thought he was improving after that fight with mayweather instead of regressing and I don't really blame him his performance vs. floyd was really good. This fight was a strange fight, it's possible it turns out Trout is reallly really world class and there is no shame in losing to him in a higher weight...but I didn't see the cotto I am used to

anyway when all is said and done the emergence of guerrero and trout will be really good for boxing imo

There's no way that Trout doesn't get a title shot, right? After beating Cotto, there's really nobody else for him to fight. I suppose the #2 contender in JM (Vanes Martirosyan) is possible, but really it should either Canelo or Mayweather.

I agree

Trout v. Canelo seems pretty legitimate to me although after seeing that fight canelo's people should be pretty scared of trout derailing the hype machine. I think it's time for a real test though.

I wonder if there is any chance of a rematch apparently cotto has the rematch clause in his contract. It was a pretty competitive fight and I don't think cotto got noticeably beat bad enough to call him "shot" but I doubt it goes much different, if anything trout will probably be less intimidated since he realizes he can beat cotto. I don't think it's likely, but not out of the question imo. I think cotto-canelo regardless of losing is still more likely than a rematch. There is just no way that won't get a **** load of buys on cinco de mayo

I can't see a rematch. Yea from Trout. But any handler of Cotto and likely Cotto himself will just realize he bit off a bit more then he can chew at this stage of his career. These are moments of realization. Any more fights for Cotto now need to be about the money and legacy, not pride.

yea definitely agree there isn't much money in a rematch relatively speaking and your'e right no point really in a rematch esp since if he gets beat bad he can't cash in on any fight again

I think cotto-canelo makes more money than trout-canelo and then trout and canelo can fight after that for a lucrative payday assuming they are both still unbeaten

Gettin excited about this fight, watchin that vid. One might consider if any speed loss to JM will happen with the extra beef, whereas w/ Pac it really didn't much. But again, I suspect they are all juiced to the gills in smarter undetectable ways these days, so likely not. JM's kryptonite countering ability could finally pay off in pain.

Being a Mayweather fan boy ... i would like to point out that Pacman has had all kinds of problems in his fights with JM.

Whilst Mayweather dealt with JM rather easily ... draw your own conclusions..

Be careful Hap_Hazard you might start a ten page debate on Pacquiao/Mayweather. I don't think anyone wants that.
