Just look at the last 2 years:

Williams over Lara
Bradley over Pac
Helenius over Chirosa
Sturm over Macklin
Rios over Abril
Alexander over Mattysse....

And those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more.

Sad sport to be a part of.
Robberies have always been part of boxing, intentional or not. It's subjective, for each of the fights you listed there will be around 5% of people who agreed with the decision. Also I think the huge number of fights that are available for us to watch now is just revealing a problem that has always been there.

The terrible decision from today's fight (errol spence vs Indian) has been overturned.

Two overturns in two days at near-medal round fights?

Good job, good effort Olympic boxing.

That's exactly my point. It makes it not worth watching. Just because it's been going on for so long doesn't mean it's acceptable. It just exposes what a sham it is.

Also, if you could find 5% of anyone with boxing knowledge that believes Chirosa lost that fight I'd be shocked. The chances of all 3 judges in each of those fights being in the 5 percentile is pretty much non-existent. That's when you have to change the word "subjective" to "rigged."

Well, at least they corrected them.

I bet Roy Jones Jr. wishes that the IOC was that active in 1988.

You may be right about Chisora-Helnius actually, I can't think of anyone that agreed with the judges. It was certainly the worst robbery I ever saw. But I know there were a few notable boxing writers who thought Bradley,Sturm and Alexander won.

Carlos Molina about to fight on friday night fights

his last fight was that LOL kirkland fight where he won like every round and then got dqed because of one guy staying in the ring too long and of course the terrible decision before that vs Lara and the questionable draw vs Chavez Jr. a few years ago

pretty good caliber fighter to be on FNF

he is fighting Damon Frias (sp)...never heard of him but that doesn't mean much

IF Botha has 10% of what he used to have he should KO sbw fairly easily.

If the fight happens then you can bet that the Williams camp think that Botha is just after a pay-day.

If he wants to be in a really big fight he needs to take on Tua.

He's too pretty and marketable to fight anyone decent, but him V Tua - yeah, that would actually be worth watching.

Tua is about as done as Botha.

Anyone excited about Chavez martinez? Gotta admit i am. First time in quite some time after all the robberies this spring/summer.

For the boxing historians here:

Has there ever been an instance where a fighter was injured or otherwise pulled out of a fight shortly (days/weeks) before fight night, and the opponent still fights a replacement on short notice? Specifically this concerns main events.

I ask because in MMA it seems standard to accept a fighter change, hence the massive backlash at Jon Jones for refusing to fight any replacement having been given only 8 days notice.

Yes it often happens. One example is Klitschko who stepped up to fight Lennox Lewis on 10 days notice.

I think it's a little different with boxing than mma though as there's not one big organisation and thus there's often a lack of suitable replacements.

With UFC it's often the brand itself that sells the entire card while with boxing it's often just the main event that is sellable. So the standard is to just re-schedule if it's an important fight.

Micky Ward did in a fight early in his career. Got his ass whooped.

This takes me back to UFC 3 (1994). Ken Shamrock tore his ACL right before the fight so Steve Jennum, who was a Nebraska police officer, stepped in and took his place (and won) with 20 minutes notice.

Now that's Boss.

rofl.

"Cotto makes the most sense to me because he just went the distance with Mayweather. If we can knock him out again at 150, which he said yes to, and if we could knock him out again, our negotiating power with Mayweather would be a little stronger. ... I think it's the most sensible fight out there but Marquez is closer to being made though, because Cotto wants more money."
^Freddie Roach.

Sorry but it makes ZERO sense.

Thank god we have good boxing coming in September. Give me Martinez Chavez over any Pac/May fight that will happen.
