Apparently Pacquiao has a severe gambling problem too.

I would bet on both being broke before within 10 years of retiring.

Yeah, I seem to remember reading stories about him playing some pretty high-stakes poker in Vegas (probably blackjack etc. too)

lol, that's true. His English seems to have improved a lot recently though. But yes I shouldn't judge him on his language skills.

My Filipino isn't too good, neither is my Spanish which is surprising considering how much boxing I have watched. I have picked up the words "Puta" and "Maricon" from Ricardo Mayorga's twitter page (I don't care if it's really him or not)

Good news guys (maybe):

According to Chris Mannix's twitter of Sports Illustrated:
---
Bob Arum tells SI from Philippines that if @FloydMayweather accepts a 50-50 split and can guarantee his half, Pacquiao can fight in late May
---
Arum says Mayweather is "Plan A" for Pacquiao. Says he doesn't like the idea of doing the fight at the MGM Grand but will do it.
----
Arum says he is guaranteeing Pacquiao's half, if someone guarantees Floyd's the fight "can be made in ten minutes."
----
Arum says if the framework of a deal with Mayweather isn't in place by Saturday, Pacquiao will pick from the Cotto/Bradley/JMM/Peterson list

Don't know how reliable this guy is, but seems like an OK source.
Here's his twitter account: https://twitter.com/#!/chrismannixsi

Chris Mannix is legit, so it's without a doubt true quotes.

What stands out to me is:

Hes fine with the fight being at MGM, but only in late may, not on may 5th?

Why? He said the only thing keeping it from happening on may 5th was the stadium. Now that is gone, but he still insists on not going on may 5th?
There is absolutely no logical reason not to have the fight on may 5th, and theres a bunch of logical reasons as to why it should be on may 5th.

It's not happening, and it's clear as to why.

Mayweather's people hasn't come out and said "It's May 5th or no fight", so at least that's encouraging for now.

Arum probably is going to cling onto the "Manny can't spar until 4/1" even though Manny himself says there no problem with his eye.

--
Also, since the fight is still being held at the MGM Grand, I don't think they would mind Floyd pushing the date back. They may have had a problem if Floyd cancelled and fought elsewhere though.

king, what logical reasons are you referring to as to why it should be May 5th?

They've said may fifth is the date a couple of times. Not to mention Floyd keeps saying "may 5th where it's at" and has been for months.

* May 5th was the date on which Floyd had a "contractual obligation" which was the basis of his scheduled jail sentence getting postponed.
I'm not sure if he'd get into trouble for not following true, but at least it's something to consider.

* May 5th is cinco de mayo - a holiday with a strong boxing tradition. I'm not sure how much it would influence ppv-sales.

* Floyd would have to get another delay on his sentence. It's not fair to demand he'd go and report to a jail sentence a week removed from the biggest fight of his career.
There would be no time to heal injuries, celebrate a victory/mourn a loss (basically get mentally stabilized) or spend time with his family.

So he would have to go infront a judge again and ask for yet another extension. Would he get it? Probably. But why? Why not may 5th? The cut is a non-issue, even Pac said so. The stadium is out the window. So WHY?

Bob Arum makes no sense at all.

Cinco de mayo or not, this fight is going to break records no matter what weekend it's held in. I don't think holding it on May 26th as opposed to May 5th is going to affect sales. Nobody is going to say, "I am not buying this fight because it's not on May 5th" Plus, neither of them are Mexican, so Cinco de Mayo doesn't hold much significance to either fighter.

Not sure about the terms of the agreement he made with the MGM Grand or with the judge, but as long as it's before June 1st, why would the judge have a problem with it? Also, like I said in my previous post, I don't think the MGM Grand will have a problem since the fight will still be held at the MGM Grand and not Bob Arum stadium.

The whole thing about him having to go to jail a week removed from the fight, is a BS and weak excuse to me. He'll still have the same amount of days to spend with his family regardless of when the fight is; he'll still have until June 1st.

How much time does he need to celebrate? Does he need a month long celebration? C'mon. As for the injury, if he is truly injuried (which he never is after his fights), then the judge will probably give him an extension.

As for why not May 5th... not sure. I think the eye excuse is BS, but on the other hand, I don't see why Floyd can't do it in late May. Maybe his team will announce why they can't do it in late May, but until then, I don't see why he can't. That way, Arum can't use the bogus eye injury excuse.

Cinco de Mayo is not celebrated in mexico.
I agree it won't matter much, but it's not a bad thing.

I don't know but the judge stated it was due to a contractual obligation on may fifth.

Nope, not even close.

If the Pac fight were to get signed this week or the next it would be all business until the day after the fight which would be a few days prior to june 1st.

It's a combination of healing injuries, getting mentally stabilized and spending time with his family. It's not much to ask for.

Floyd has legit reasons for fighting on May fifth. Pacquiao has none for not fighting on may fifth. Easy as that.

If you feel Bob Arums, already shot down by his own fighter, injury excuse could keep this from happening then it's quite clearly a duck on his fighters part. Theres nothing else to say really.

Difference of opinion then. He spent the past 3 years on 2 separate extended vacations from the sport to apparently spend time with his family, and now he's causing the fight to be delayed until Nov. so that he can spend 2-3 more weeks with his family while being "mentally stabilized". Not buying it.
Also, not buying that it's going to be "all business" until the fight if the fight gets made this week. You'll probably see Floyd on TMZ partying it up in clubs until it's time to train and go on press tours in March or so.

I hope he doesn't use that excuse. If he says that the judge or MGM won't allow him to push the date back, then that will be a legitimate excuse, but none of his team has indicated that's the case...yet.

Not saying May 19 or 26th is better than May 5th, but if Arum is standing firm on that date citing Pac's eye "injury" as the reason, then I think Floyd should just accept it. Maybe Pac will say f it, I'll fight Floyd May 5th anyways. Who knows?

The thing I don't get is, if Arum is saying the fight will be in late May anyway, why not just build the damn stadium?

Floyd is a bigger spender and lives in the USA where it's easier to burn huge quantities of money. He bet $400k on a football game yesterday. Foolish spendthrift with no skills outside the ring, a terrible speaker who won't even be able to commentate professionally on boxing.

Pac is a gambling degen who lives in the Filipines where each million is worth more like 10 million. He's a senator and already has a post boxing career that puts him in the elite class.

Floyd goes busto, Pac lives it up for decades after retiring from boxing.

It's not being delayed because he wants to spend time with his family. It's being delayed because team Pacquiao is lying.

Training camp would most likely not be 8 weeks for this fight.

24/7 would start shooting right away.

Press tour would be heavily extended for this fight.

He don't have to use any excuse as his may fifth demand is perfectly reasonable.

Pacquiaos reason for NOT fighting is UNREASONABLE and flat out lies. It's on him to make better excuses to not look like hes blatantly ducking the fight.

Yeah right.
Pacs side is the one at fault here. It's not really up for debate.

Because it was a bull**** excuse to begin with. It made little sense. Just like the injury excuse is bull**** and has been debunked by Pacquiao himself.

I'm done with this now as there's not much else to say. I've browsed through this thread and seen the outlash at Mayweather for various reasons, many which i agree fully with and were outraged myself.
This round is the worst of the lot and if people can't see that Arum and Pacquiao is at fault right now i just don't know what to say.

It will be an interesting week. I'd say theres 1% chance Pacquiao will fight Floyd, but who knows. All i know is there will be lots of entertainment due to Bob Arums idiocy so keep up with the news, it could be worth it.

Yeah Maybe.

Pac has an entire entourage hes paying for and seems to be naive when it comes to money. Mayweather probably make twice as much just due to not being ****ed by Arum on a large %.
If Pac becomes president he will obviously be OK. I have my doubts tho, especially if he were to lose against Mayweather.

I'd say it's 95% certain Floyd will go broke unless he wise up and/or finds some lucrative sideincome.
Maybe 80% for Pac?

If Pacquiao really didn't want the fight it would be great if he just said that he was "going on vacation", there wouldn't be much Mayweather could say to that.

I read that Canelo-Floyd fight would be difficult to make because he won't settle for the standard $4 million (or whatever it is) Floyd's opponents usually make. If I was his manager I don't think I would even advise him to fight Floyd or Manny yet. I think he should go for one of them in 18 months or two years in a passing-of-the-torch kind of fight.

Canelo is not ready yet. I just don't see who else is out there. Martinez is fighting, Pacquiao is what it is, Cotto i guess.
I'm leaning towards Canelo being the guy but wouldn't be shocked if it's cotto.

Yeah he does like a whine. He even bitterly complains that the scorecards weren't wide enough in fights he won. I'm glad he kept his mouth shut after the Ward fight.

Even if he loses to Bute he will have a few big fights left in him. There are three pretty big all-British fights out there with Groves, Degale and Cleverly around 168/175.
