Impressive performance by Sergio. Two entertaining fights on HBO. How's the Cotto-Mayorga fight?

Martinez KO's Dzinziruk in the 8th. 5 knockdowns total for Martinez. Dzinziruk was game and threw a bunch of punches but was only effective when Martinez took round 7 off.

The Bradley-Alexander fight withstanding, there have been some great finishes to the fights over the last 4 months or so.

Cotto knocks him down in round 12 with a viscous left hook. Mayorga may have broken his own left hand. Ref stops fight

lol Mayorga. Was the fight competitive?

Hardly. Cotto was just beating him with fundamentals. Mayorga had a couple rounds landing some pretty solid shots, but that's about it. Finally got caught with that left hook that was landing all night

lol, Mayorga said in the interview he couldn't make a fist so he had to stop, then he proceded to make fists with both hands to salute the crowd.

It always surprises me that Max Kellerman can form coherent sentences, given the fact that he has his lips wrapped round Roy Jones's ****.

Martinez put on an electric show of daring quickness, hand speed, and power punching combinations last night against an opponent many thought was practically impossible to look good against. As one of the most entertaining boxers in the business today Sergio surely deserves a PPV payday against somebody. The question is who?

I'm not sure he understood the translated question when asked after the fight if he cared about the "pound for pound" rankings vis a vis Mayweather and Pacquiao. He replied yes, he wants to fight the best and wants to go up against Manny and PBF. That's not going to happen. And you don't prove your pound for pound chops by fighting guys a full division below you. While I would prefer to see a middleweight emerge to present him with a real challenge, the PPV pot of gold may lie further up the hill against Andre Ward. Is Martinez good enough to solve Andre Ward or is that a reach too far? I don't know but I do know that's a fight I would pay to watch.

Andre Ward isn't available for a while and it looks like Showtime have plans to match the winner of the Super six against Lucian Bute so I can't see Maravilla (love that nickname) moving up.

I hope that next Bute fight takes place at the Bell Centre, definitely think I'll make the trip.

So if Kirkland can stay out of jail and put some wins together this year, will GBP try to rush him back to serious contender status and angle for a Martinez fight a t the end of the year or first of next?

kirkland prob won't win against martinez. Martinez vs mayweather would be a good matchup @ 154. Prolly won't happen cause martinez is more dangerous than pacquiao.

It's frustrating with Mayweather, he has a LOT of detractors but if he signed to fight with Martinez he would get a heap of credit and silence so many of his doubters. The fact that he has only fought at 154 once, against de la Hoya who was far past his best, and that Martinez is just very very good, make the fight so unlikely that it's probably not even worth talking about.

Maybe we have to wait until Mayweather's bank balance is crippled by his gambling problem for him to be in such fights.

Martinez vs Ward a PPV hit? I doubt it does more that 400k buys. It would probably be on regular HBO/showtime if was ever done. IMO, Ward won't fill any place up except Oakland, even then I don't think it was a sell out. Are there many who know about Ward? Martinez knows the big money is with the fighters he calls out. No one at 168 comes close.

Mayweather would never fight Martinez before locking down his massive payday with Pacquiao first. Martinez is too much of a legitimate threat to his undefeated record and there's no way in hell Mayweather's camp is that stupid. I refuse to believe it.

OTOH, weight division logistics aside and assuming all things equal, I could see Pacquiao's camp being far more willing to entertain a fight with Martinez if they became sufficiently frustrated with Mayweather's camp post-Mosley. But I think that's just a touch too heavy for Pac, so it's a moot point.

Neither will fight Martinez, it's just silly to even think about it.

Mayweather has shown in the past he won't fight a guy as good as Martinez without getting enough money to warrant it. If he won't fight Pacquiao there is no chance in hell he will fight a better fighter for less than half the pay.

Pacquiao and his camp has shown very clearly they think a fight vs Martinez is completely ridiculous and just not realistic.
They like to chant about "omg super welterweight champ of the world, better than henry ****ing armstrong!!!! Manny PACMAN Pacquiao" but in all honesty, he could not hang with a truly skilled 154+ guy like Martinez.

I think for Martinez, if he wants a big payday and career-defining fight, he needs to look at the super6 winner or possibly even Hopkins if hes successful in his rematch with Pascal.
Cotto/Margarito winner for a 154 strap could be fine too, but their status in the boxingworld just isn't what it used to be.
Shane Mosley would fight Martinez in a heartbeat if he pulls out the miracle against Pac, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Simply put. Neither Mayweather nor Pacquiao have the balls to fight Martinez. Not considering their current position and status in this current boxingworld.

Yeah, lol. Ward has zero draw. And he deserves just that, the way he is fighting.
