The hype started building as soon as Mayweather announced his return from retirement to fight JMM.

An article I found about why the fight is likely to happen in Vegas and not elsewhere as discussed earlier (don't know how reliable it is):

I am a casual fan, only get excited for big bouts and I am super pumped about this

I can only imagine what I would be like if I was really into the sport.

I thought this was interesting.....

Castillo lost the lightweight title to Mayweather via decision in 2002 in what was the toughest fight of Mayweather's career. Mayweather won more convincingly in the rematch later that year. Castillo was one of Pacquiao's main sparring partners to prepare him for the fight with Cotto, so Roach talked to Castillo about Mayweather.

"I talked to him about Mayweather when we had him in camp with us and he told me Pacquiao is faster and hits way harder than Mayweather," Roach said. "I thought Castillo won their first fight. He put pressure on Mayweather and broke him down. Whatever Floyd gives us, we'll take. Manny will him on the arms, the shoulders, wherever he can, and Mayweather will feel it. There's no way Mayweather can win the fight running, and that's what he does best."

Pac-man opened as an 8-5 fav on sports books operated by Station Casinos.

Has Pac after been up against anyone with anywhere near the defensive ability of Mayweather?

the thing about mayweather though is, he would rather not stand toe to toe and throw bombs. but, if he has to, he will plant his feet and knock you out.

his punches come hard, fast and in bunches. the best we can hope for, is that pac man makes mayweather stand and fight and if he does, i am confident that pretty boy has more than enough firepower.

sorry but if you saw the shots manny took from Cotto, what is mayweather going to do exactly to break him down or slow him down? Manny took five or six brutal shots from Cotto in the first five rounds and didn't even flinch. Manny's style is pretty much Floyd's worst nightmare, no?

^That's what I was most impressed with when watching pacquiao-cotto...Pacquiao took some bombs from cotto early and was never stunned. All along, the big question for me has been how pacquiao reacts when a welterweight lands flush on him. Well, he handled it very well.

Floyd's style is considered to be pacquiao's worst nightmare as well. That's another element that makes this fight so exciting.

The speed of both fighters will be jaw dropping, and Pacquiao will force Mayweather to exchange...I'd be shocked if the fight doesn't live up to the hype no matter how it plays out.

i do think the referee choice will be interesting. i think floyd deserved point deductions for grabbing hatton every 5 seconds in their fight. although he didnt miss the hatton deduction for barely touch the back of floyd's head when he turned his back to hatton.

To the people saying Pacquiao is too aggressive for PBF, that is exactly what everyone in the British press was saying over here before Hatton/Mayweather in 07. That was back when Hatton was actually a very good fighter who threw a lot of pretty devastating punches and would just keep coming at you. PBF absolutely took him apart. This is definitely closer than with Hatton, but saying Floyd could be an underdog here is still absurd IMO.

Can't wait for this fight either, I follow boxing pretty closely but haven't bought any PPV in a while -- will absolutely be buying this though!

Sick OP btw.

Hatton was aggresive and transparent.

Pacquiao is aggressive and deceptive.

If Manny comes at Mayweather with reckless abandon, he will catch 5-6 bombs from Mayweather in the 1st round alone. (at least)

If defense is not Manny's #1 or #1A priority, Mayweather will destroy him. He cannot expect to just come at Mayweather, apply pressure and hit him without having to avoid land mines himself.

The thing that seperates Mayweather, imo, is his power. If he was just another slickster it would be another story but, he is a slickster with 1 punch knockout power in either hand.

The thing that will stand out in their fight is how hard Floyd hits.

Floyd will meet Manny in the middle of the ring & from the outset send the message, " you have to be more concerned with protecting yourself than with hitting me or I will flatten you."

Already answered, but no. Much like Floyd has never fought anyone quite as dangerous as Pacquiao.

It's the best defensive fighter of our generation vs. the best offensive fighter of our generation. Something has to give, and we'll all be there when it does.

Earl, there is no way Mayweather is a harder puncher than Cotto.

I'll be very surprised if Mayweather KO's Pacman. I don't think either fighter will win by KO.

This. They also have the best hand/foot speed of this generation (cept RJJ in his prime) which will make the exchanges jaw dropping.

Mayweather's more than capable of punching and counterpunching for power in this fight, but he'll have to do it against an unstoppable engine with an underrated chin and pretty solid defensive game. We saw this vs. Cotto before round 6...Manny's d along the ropes was very impressive.

After seeing the Cotto fight, I am convinced Manny has more power than Mayweather. I believe Cotto is a harder puncher than Mayweather, and Manny took clean shots from Cotto exceptionally well, so I don't think Mayweather's power is going to be much of a problem for Manny.

lol @ some of these responses. PBF will beat Manny. Manny doesn't have Mayweathers speed, defense, or counter attacking capabilities. He will come out with flurry's in rounds 1-5 and get beaten down in rounds 6-10 with a knockout in round 11. I love Manny, but he is no match for PBF, no one is.

I haven't seen all of Mayweather's fights, but has he ever been in serious danger of being knocked out? Hell, has he ever even been cut from a punch?

Pac's skill doesn't necessarily come from his strength or speed. It comes from being completely unpredictable in the ring. His fighting style is so random that it is impossible to brace or prepare yourself for him. You never know where he'll be or where his punches will come from.

Mayweather has never fought a fighter like Pacquiao and likely never will for the remainder of his career. We'll see how good his chin is because there's no way he'll be able to dodge all of Pac's punches. He will take many clean shots to the jaw and body. From there, we'll see how he responds.

I think both fighters are too good to go down in the fight. I have Pac by decision. His unpredictable style will just overwhelm Mayweather, allowing Pac to control the action and be the aggressor. Though, a close fight will almost certainly warrant a rematch.

I haven't seen them all but no and no. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the only time he has been knocked down was when he hit Hernandez and hurt his own hand causing him to drop his left hand to the canvas which the ref ruled a knockdown.
