England had it. Whoever gave that penalty away on the 5th tackle with 20 secs left just cost his team big time. It was great game of league though.

complete lack of composure by both teams throughout the whole 80 mins but obviously an outrageously good game. super great even though i now feel a bit sick.

I'd rather Aus played Eng than NZ to be honest(I'm Aus) even though Aus should still do the job against NZ.

we upset australia eight or twelve years ago, so there is some chance. don't think this team is as good as that one was.

you beat them in the world cup final in 2008 and 4 nations final in 2010...

Yeah NZ are very capable of beating Aus. Eng as well but less so. Every other team in the world has zero chance.

I don't think there is enough 'downward' pressure. Mean it scruffs his finger when he falling over...

Thoughts?

Doesn't "anyone amount greater than zero" count as "enough"?

I believe the scale of downward pressure is measured like this

Full disclosure I'm Aus but can you honestly say that if the situation was reversed that English league fans would begrudgingly say that was a try? That was more knock on than try. Personally I think England should've won that game but it had nothing to do with that vid.

Rugby league needs a catchall thread similar to cricket and union IMO...

Also, on first reading I assumed this would be a lol Australia thread, disappointed its not

so nuts to not kick the penalty there. nfl-like levels of incompetency. horrible that they didn't prepare for that possibility. (ignore all this paragraph if i am wrong but i don't think i am).

heartbreaking tournament for england. great great tournament tho. it's an enormous cliche but the fact that this doesn't get MUCH more worldwide coverage is a huge shame.

yeah this was much closer than i was making out.

if england win by 4 australia need to win by 20, which is a coinflip apparently. so if they are 10% to score on that last play(?) they are 5% to qualify.

if england kick the penalty (85% to make it?) they go through if fiji win, which is a 9% shot. 7.6%.

put another way, the draw only affects matters if samoa win by > 8.

anyhow i just put more thought into it than anyone in the england camp.

Is it the Fiji comment? (Fiji aren't playing in tourny)

Regardless from what I heard on commentary watching in Aus if the game had been tied (If England kick the penalty near full time it ties it up) then Samoa have to beat Aus(not by >8, just beat them) for Eng to go through(not likely) but then again Eng had to beat NZ by 10 or more to overtake them on for and against and go straight into the finals which didn't seem likely at the point they had the penalty so if they had kicked it they at least would've had a chance of being in the final.

It was a great game though. These two teams always seem to always have great games as of late. England are really becoming a force to be reckoned with league wise.

No not Fiji(that too), I ignored the chance of still qualifying when they go for the try and fail

As I (correctly) said at the end of the post (which confused me a little as I hit post), getting the draw only affects the instance where Samoa win by more than 8. England would go into the final with 3 points in that situ, whereas if that happens now England will go out. But yeah that's a super duper rare outcome. So yeah you have to go for the try. Long week!
