Just saw some highlights of the Serena/Capriati robbery in the US Open final in 2004. Looks very, very fishy as to it being innocent. Chair lady run out of the game I think.

The chair umpire in that match was Mariana Alves, who was suspended for the remainder of that tournament only. She's still a gold badge (elite level) chair umpire to this day.
An example of a tennis umpire who was actually run out of the game for corruption was the ump working the infamous Jeff Tarango match at Wimbledon when Tarango threw a "tantrum" and walked off the court in the middle of the match. The crowd was aggressively hostile towards Tarango and most people only remember the match for Tarango's behavior. What they may not realize is that Tarango was correct in calling the ump the most corrupt official in the game, and the ump was permabanned less than a year later.

Was there suspicion of a cheat by Alves, or just honest mistakes. It looked fishy. I guess not if she still officiating.
