He didn't throw it behind him, he threw it sideways and there was no view to determine whether or not it was forward. It may very well have gone forward on its own, so without the twisting it would have definitely gone forward.

Yeh reffing in the Saints-Lions game has been particularly awful. Pretty rigged in favor of NO.

lol that spot was so huge, im trying to figure out how this game could have not been rigged. That touchdown being called for the saints while the ball was laying on the ground though is the point when i decided it really might be.

Schwartz brought it strong after the game and was like "Any other game and that's a fumble, but for some reason in this game they blew the whistle. That would have been 6 points".

His wallet's about to get lighter.

Also, the Bengals refs looked clueless on a FG. Can we get refs who are younger than the Rolling Stones, please? Goodell seems so concerned about player safety but has long ignored the fact that there is a 5% likelihood a ref dies of old age in the middle of a National Football League game.

don't think the fumble was as huge a deal as people are making it out to be... if the whistle doesn't blow, the Saints players don't stop and the play probably turns out completely differently

the worst part of that game (officiating-wise) was that the Saints were not called for one holding penalty... just mind bottling really

The crew of refs for this game was headed by Tony Corrente, who is 60 years old and missed 3 weeks late in the season because of illness. Definitely worthy of officiating an NFL playoff game.

The NFL is turning into the NBA. They love these old geezer refs because it just adds a layer of plausible deniability.

The difference between the treatment the Lions got playing the Saints in the Superdome after the Wolverines against Hokies a few days earlier is quite amazing. See the whistle blowing on the 2nd and 5 run at 17-17 that gave VT 3rd and 5 instead of 3rd and 1/2 yard before botched punt, spot before the VT's disastrous 4th and short inside the Michigan 7, and the overturning of what >80% of people not backing Michigan thought was a TD catch in OT. In one game, you had the "name" and storyline of Michigan, in the other game, you had the hometown Saints. Butnah, officials aren't biased.

LOL NFL REFS

Giants pick up first down on second down. No measurement. Giants incomplete pass on third down, still no measurement 'cause why show yourself up for being incompetent?

almost as bad as the game a month or so ago when the refs measured a Steelers "first down", one ref then realized the chain wasn't pulled all the way, Steelers were short, and they just completely ignored it

And now a WR gets bear hugged. No flag.

Please hire full time refs. It's a $9 billion business.

The reffing in this game has been, at best, bad. Come on dude. Last night they had a head ref who missed a quarter of the season and blew like 5 critical calls. This league is horribly officiated.

That wasn't DPI. You can't call it when all the contact is being initiated by the receiver backing into the corner.
