Does Michael Smith now have the most major finals without a win? Terry Jenkins had 7 I believe.

Depends what you class as a major really. By any reasonable definition, not yet.

Last Players Championship of the year starts at noon, so it's the last chance for players to play themselves in or out of the worlds, Players Championship Finals, or just get whatever they can to try to save their tour cards. Worlds cutoff looks like this:

Beaton 25500 (vs John Brown, then Huybrechts/Rafferty)
Nentjes 25250 (vs Neyens, then Lukeman/Mansell)
Kleermaker 25000 (vs Montgomery, then Heta/King)
O'Shea 24750 (vs Labanauskas, then Scott Williams/van der Velde)
de Zwaan 24000 (vs Gurney, then Henderson/Joyce)
-------------------
Gawlas 24000 (vs Hempel, then Rowby/Hughes)
Joyce 23750 (vs Henderson, then de Zwaan/Gurney)
White 23250 (vs van der Voort, then Heaver/van Barneveld)
Rafferty 22500 (in through Dev Tour anyway, but big run would make him use main tour spot and give qualification to van der Velde instead, vs Huybrechts then Beaton/Brown)
Murnan 22000 (vs van Dongen, then Jim Williams/Barry)
Waites 22000 (vs Hudson, then van Duijvenbode/Lennon)

Anyone not listed needs a minimum of a quarter, probably a semi realistically

Players Championship Finals cutoff is:

Pietreczko 18000 (vs Dobey, then Claydon/Michael)
Mansell 18000 (vs Lukeman, then Nentjes/Neyens)
Kleermaker 18000
Rafferty 17500
-------------------
Vandenbogaerde 16500 (vs Suljovic, then Razma/Martinez)
Boulton 16500 (vs Burness, then Ross Smith/Evetts)
van Veen 16250 (vs Clark, then Cullen/Fullwell)
Hempel 16000 (vs Gawlas, then Rowby/Hughes)
Lennon 15750 (vs van Duijvenbode, then Hudson/Waites)
Henderson 15500 (vs Joyce, then Gurney/de Zwaan)

Anyone not listed needs a minimum of a quarter. In terms of saving cards, Zonneveld, Mitchell, Borland and Jeff Smith are those who are currently out of saving their cards so need a miracle run and then to pray, Nentjes could also provisionally get up into the top 64 as well with a big run but he's in the worlds so has the shot to get a big bump by that method (and will get a card back through the Dev Tour if it goes tits up anyway)

so the only change in the worlds cutoff is that gawlas replaced de zwaan after he won his first game and the latter didn't, nobody made any sort of hero run (except beaton making the final, but he was looking pretty safe anyway). similar with the pc finals race, nobody jumped into the field on the final day so it's as you were there. grand slam last chance qualifier finishing up right now, you usually get one or two random names into it, but there's only a couple this time round that are completely from nowhere

ok, so we saw edhouse, van barneveld, gawlas, soutar, schindler, woodhouse, suljovic and wattimena make it through the qualifier, as such three of the four semi finalists from two years ago, including both finalists, will lose all their ranking money and plummet in the standings. also means that the following will all lose their tour cards unless they win through the pdpa qualifier and get this far (requirements may go up for some players dependent on what results happen, handful of others are in the worlds but need wins to save their card):

minimum round 1: kuivenhoven, mitchell, borland, jeff smith
minimum round 2: lowe, hunt, durrant, heaver, boulton
minimum round 3: henderson, de zwaan, mathers, koltsov, hopp
minimum round 4: van peer, hudson, west, lovely, michael
minimum quarter: worsley, de vos, claydon, main, david evans, lerchbacher, john brown, jones
minimum semi: unterbuchner

It's a stretch to reach round 2 of the PDPA qualifier. He's gone out in the first round of all but one of the tournaments he's entered all season, and lost in the first round of every Euro Tour qualifier he's entered. It's a shame but his game's completely gone.

That was an amazing game. First time i've seen Rock play live. The hype is real, all aboard the hypetrain.

MVG the only person in the world that would've won that game, insane. Gotta give MVG credit for games like this. In the last couple of years i've seen numerous times where someone plays the game of his life against him, and he still wins.

That he did it immediately after MvG breaks him in the first leg with a huge bull outshot in twelve makes it all the more impressive.

Rare that a game actually lives up to the hype. Only the three breaks in the match - the 124 out in the opener with Rock sitting on 24 after 12, the nine, and then the decisive one where van Gerwen took out 142. BOTH players were averaging over 100 in the legs they lost - against anyone else, they'd both be breaking for fun

LOL, just LOL at the PDC, "let's boost the women's game further by giving a third world's spot to the winner of the women's Matchplay"

Then do it retrospectively so they can shoehorn Sherrock into this year's field after she failed to qualify. **** them, hope she draws Rock and doesn't win a leg

yeah this whole Fallon thing is bad. I felt kind of bad for her when that article came out a few weeks ago about her not feeling welcome anymore amongst the women in the women’s tour. but when PDC does this, it’s hard to have any sympathy for her.

ok, van gerwen beat cross in the final, and all the seeds for the worlds are set. it looks like this:

price/van barneveld
searle/de sousa
wade/clemens
noppert/gurney
m smith/schindler
cullen/heta
humphries/van der voort
chisnall/bunting
wright/huybrechts
van den bergh/ratajski
clayton/dolan
aspinall/rydz
van gerwen/suljovic
van duijvenbode/r smith
cross/king
anderson/dobey

rock won the world youth (duh) so there's three spots in the pdpa qualifier. draw is tomorrow evening. i'm going to try to stay spoiler free and then go and chat bollocks about the draw while pissed after the portugal game - if you look on twitch for my username and darts, you'll likely find the stream around 10pm or so. maybe later if i decide to get completely pissed, i am off all this week so that is a fair possibility
