Going back to darts, when I was a student living on campus one year we were by the bar/sports club. There were no other places nearby so we went there a lot and got on OK with the locals. Darts was a big thing there and one of my flat mates played a few games for the team. The thing about it that has always stuck with me was that everyone was about the same level. You'd think that if you played every night, as these guys did, you'd just get slowly better but people levelled off at a pretty average level. It's just so hard to get near to the level you see on TV.
This applies to golf all the time as well. If you aren't putting in ACTUAL training to get better, coaching, video analysis etc... everyone will eventually merge into a group where over small samples its very hard to pick out who is the best.

Now, I know I could improve by actually getting lessons and working on my putting, but **** it, its too much fun to sneak a few drinks on the course, play crap, swear a lot and shoot 52 over 9 holes than anything else.

This is true of course - it's just that darts is less technical and I previously thought (seeing big fat guys playing so well on TV) that just about anyone could be close to that level just by playing 4-5 nights a week, as these guys did. It's not that easy though!

Another thing that struck me is that there was one guy there who was a bit older. He wasn't any better than the rest of us but apparently he used to be very good (he played Bristow in some kind of match in the past). I swear he was younger than Phil Taylor is now but he just somehow lost it totally.

This sounds sexist af but given that the top Darts players seem to be mostly old and fat, I'm surprised that there don't seem to be any women that can play at a competetive level. I mean that you don't need some sort of top physical shape that women can't reach to be world class at darts. I guess there's just way fewer women trying though.

600+ entries to q-school over the two sites playing for 33 cards. Lloyd's back, Winstanley's back, Cadby is going for it and O'Shea, Fitton, Menzies, Hughes and Noppert are amongst those looking to switch

Yeah, it's a numbers game. Ashton at least tried the Challenge Tour last year and I think several of the younger ones play the Development Tour

I've wondered about that too, and snooker to a lesser extent (as cue power is a thing). It could definitely happen in darts though.

You get a strap that goes around the door and you can set it up on any door. I put a cork board behind it - you can jam it behind the board so it sits flush and will cause no damage to the door. Perfect. I can't find it for some reason and can find a hook for the back of the door but thats it.
I remember getting my first board. My wife (gf at the time) and I went to walmart, bought it, and, having no idea how to hang it, bought some straight velcro strips too. Strapped it up flush against the closet door in my university apartment. Had never thrown before. We ****ed that closet door up. Often played from 501 for like 45 minutes, eventually exchanging missed d1's forever. At the end of the school year, my buddy's dad, a painter, came with a paint roller and went over the holes in the door. Very obvious damage to the door, especially once I yanked the board violently from the door, what with all the dart holes and stripped velcro. Was charged $0 from my damage deposit. Amazing. I eventually opted to stick it to a cork board to protect future walls.

That was 7 years ago. I finally care enough that I just replaced that board over the holidays, and rotated it for the first time as I gave it away to a friend of mine.

Would love to but I like TT more and the table folds up. If we can fit both I'll be in heaven obviously.

Every sport is fairly like this. Like not many golfers get down to a 5 handicap even those that play daily. It levels off around 10-12 for most amateurs. There is just a steep learning curve and the gap between for example 3 and scratch is way higher than between 18 and 12. Just using golf as an example. The gap between top amateur and top pro is about the same as between top amateur and recreational player in many sports, apart from golf where top amateurs are as good as pros but it's an anomaly. Maybe I should not have used it as an example lol.

Yeah the BDO women's final sometimes out averages some 1st round men's matches. But many less play it so it's far harder to reach the top. Just a way smaller pool.

de Zwaan v van Duijvenbode for a card, Noppert out in the semi

Still only in round two in the UK qualifiers lol

Cadby and Eddie Dootson got the two UK cards, one is known, the other not so much but he did get to the last 32 or so of the UK Open a couple of years back. Aspinall made the semis, none of the BDO lot did much, best being Menzies getting to the last 32

Edit: de Zwaan got the Euro card

Why is Durrant not switching? He wants to hang around with Wolfie forever and not even try mixing it with the big boys?

Final day of Q-School, in the Euro one de Zwaan, Robbe (random Dutchie that's been off the scene for a while) and Kanik (random Pole) have won outright, Clemens plays Kamphuis or Portela for the last automatic card. Six cards for countback there, Noppert, Marijanovic, van Duijvenbode and Perales look absolutely safe, whoever loses the final should get one as well. Last spot looks like a cluster****, Ratajski might be in a tie for it but wiki reckons Davy van Baelen has it already. (edit - have checked twatter and Burton's already done the numbers and Ratajski misses out)

In the UK one, Cadby and Dootson got it on day 1, Tabern and Owen on day 2 and Monk and Killington on day 3, the four new names should be fairly familiar except Killington who's a youngish kid who's played development tour a lot. Aspinall, Ross Smith and Harrington's kid look safe on countback (for which there's 15 spots), some notables who are outside and will stay outside are Dennis Smith, Ted Evetts, Colin Lloyd (don't think he even won a point), Macneil and Menzies probably cocked up a qualifying position with ro256 losses today, Hughes is out, Jeff Smith is out, Pallett is out. Still playing the last 256 so a long way to go in that one

Random question: does anyone know the song they use for the PDC world championship that isn't chase the sun?

The crowd always sings it - da da da da da daaah da daaah daaah da da daaaaah

Then it has lyrics like maybe (or sure if I can understand them) "you want it moooorrrreeee blah blah blah blah blah you want it moooorrrreeee"

I will be forever thankful
