So when the 2011 Aussie Open began, the Grand Slam count was:

Fed: 16
Rafa: 9
Novak: 1

Here’s the count using their entire career

Fed 20
Rada 18
Novak 16

Rogers has more gs wins than Novak, the gap is larger than some hall of fame careers

Sure Novak might win 8 more

But he also might win 0 more

Let’s all slow down.

I really like Fed a lot (even if I trolled his fanboys in the past), but his fans are just the worst. Every Fed record/achievement is absolutely crucial for GOAT status, every shortcoming doesn’t matter one bit. If he’s old and wins he’s GOAT, if he’s old and loses he’s GOAT for being competitive. If he’s lacking post prime it has no effect on his GOAT status but if god forbid immature Djok lacked PRE prime it automatically means he can’t be GOAT.
Fed fanboys will just twist and turn literally anything to mean Fed is unquestionable GOAT. Pure pure delusion and beyond frustrating. It’s sad because the man himself is such a sweetheart and an example as a sportsman and as a human being.

I agree. Don't worry though, Djokovic will end up with more slams than Federer and Nadal, which will put the GOAT debate to bed once and for all.

Vak is 21-9 vs Roger this decade. Roger is great but there's not much argument Novak has held over him, and it started when Vak rounded in to form and Roger was still at peak.

That matters in the inevitable GOAT discussion when they're both done

Met a girl at a swimming pool one time at one of the resorts who worked for the men's tennis tour. She said Fed is nicest and most cooperative guy on tour. I also know a violinist in Switzerland that says "the world's best tennis player is one of my fans and the nicest guy" ... she didn't even know his name.

I think he has the three most brutal tennis match losses ever, maybe. Too bad.

Djok will hit 21 in next two years and it will be tough to argue then. But I'll always prefer fed because he plays beautiful tennis, as Boris Becker said Djokovic is just 'really solid'

Anther fun stat...

If we put the starting point in January of 2008 when Novak won his first GS, in the 12 seasons since then (including 2008):

Novak won 16 grand slam titles.
Rafa won 15.
Fed won 8.

80 players have played Novak at least 4 times but only 1 has a winning record, Andy Roddick 5-4. You can't be GOAT with that blemish since Vak backers talk about Fed playing weaker competition in his prime. Andy being one of the better ones Roger faced and held a 21-3 career advantage over.

GOAT discussions are truly the WOAT, but things like cherry-picking from 2008 forward remind me of the awful arguments David Robinson slappies used when trying to defend his squeezable softness compared to the overachieving, legendary Hakeem Olajuwon. HtH conveniently removed several peak years before Robinson came into the league but included Olajuwon's geriatric years in Toronto or wherever he ended up wheezing at the end. lol.

2005 6-1-0 Safin AU
2006 9-2-0
2007 12-3-0
2008 13-5-1
2009 15-6-1 Del Po US
2010 16-9-1
2011 16-10-4
2012 17-11-5 Murray US
2013 17-13-6 Murray Wim
2014 17-14-7 Stan AU - Cilic US
2015 17-14-10 Stan FO
2016 17-14-12 Murray Wim - Stan US
2017 19-16-12
2018 20-17-14
2019 20-18-16 - US to go!

2000s
Federer 15
Nadal 6
Agassi 3
Hewitt, Kuerten, Safin, Sampras 2
Costa, Djokovic, Ferrero, Gaudio, Ivanišević, Johansson, del Potro, Roddick 1

2010s
15 Djokovic
12 Nadal
5 Federer
3 Murray, Wawrinka
1 Čilić

6 different winners this decade, every other decade has >10 different winners.

US has been the slam most likely to produce a different winner. Going to be huge! Rafa can get to 1 behind, Novak can get within 1 of Rafa.

Roger can extend his lead back to 3.

I think 2017 AO is toughest loss/most important win. Both written off legends going for their fairy tale return, flip the result and they're tied on 19 and Rafa is huge fave to pass him and prob considered current GOAT right now. He was up a break in the 5th too and at the time had dominated h2h even restricted to hard court (which would still be even now if he'd won)

Instead he's probably universally consigned to third. Huge swing.

Over .5 is a favorite, but he's 32 and look at Murray it can just end.

Then again everyone under 30 basically sucks and as a result there isn't an heir coming up.
