Absolute bull****.

Roger should be turning 21.

That 40-15 on serve for the championship.

Holy ****.

I feel really bad for Fed, class act. Happy to see the smirk wiped off his smug fans though.

Federer? How do you think 37 year old djokovic does vs 32 year old Rog? Very much doubt he's a ball hair away from winning in a 5th set tie break

Might be first time a loss has improved legacy for a GOAT contender. Really outplayed Novak today. No one can disagree even.

Nothing in the game overall. Certainly wouldn’t use that match to make the GOAT claim for Djokovic.

Fed won 15 more points...had 40 more winners...at 8 years beyond the average retirement age

I guess there is a huge difference between the casualfan GOAT or the actual GOAT, even though both titles belong to Federer at the moment. In terms of the actual GOAT, this enhances Federer's status significantly more than Djokovic's - the match was essentially a tie where Federer slightly outplayed Djokovic, just that variance went the other way. That Federer at almost 38 is nearly the best player in the game and played the current best player to a tie is definitely a strong point in Federer's favor, one that would weigh heavily for those who are actually interested in figuring out who's the GOAT. It also diminishes the argument that Djokovic/Nadal played in a really tough era - it's certainly lack of change that's letting older players dominate the game to an unprecedented degree and letting Nadal/Djokovic extend their careers without having to make any serious adjustments.

In terms of casualfan GOAT, I guess this helps Djokovic but there's a chance it may end up helping Nadal more than Djokovic - neither player has any chance of becoming the casualfan GOAT without taking the GS crown away from Federer and due to Federer's enduring popularity, it may end up taking more than that.

yes Djoko was at like 65% for most of the match while Fed was at 85%. The GOAT uses GOAT mental advantage to win finals on a sub par day.

djok's gonna end up with the most majors out of the three.

Still we're fortunate to get to watch it as long as we have and they are still playing great and so much better than everyone else. Every other sport by now, one of them would've totally fallen off in talent level for whatever reason.

in other words, just enjoy the ride as long as lasts.

When he had the match and melted that basically sealed it.

If one is arguing analytics or some metric other than winning the match then sure .But for Djokovic to beat Federer when he played maybe his best tennis in several years on his best surface, then Djokovic has to be considered the best. If the roles were switched today Federer would go down in straight sets.

Well yeah, when probably federer past his prime after 30 years old after 2011 but still good enough to compete vs the best ever...

regardless, any reason why u leave out the 4 title from federer since 2011 ?

Pretty brutal on Fed lovers. Djok ~ 50/50 to surpass him now as GOAT. Nadal was never close imo as it was largely clay court specialist. Nadal GOAT on clay obviously. Fed > Nadal overall, obviously. But Fed not obviously > Djok overall. So it's actually happening, GOAT status being threatened. Imagine Ruth being surpassed while he was still active having risen the bar to seeming impossible levels . That's about what this is.

Yes, I started at 2011 because it's when Novak began his current run of dominance. The Aussie of 2011 was only his 2nd grand slam title. At this point, Fed already had 16.

So when the 2011 Aussie Open began, the Grand Slam count was:

Fed: 16
Rafa: 9
Novak: 1
