He was also both Fed's greatest rival, and Novak's greatest rival, which is unique to him.
I really hope Nadal's career still has some decent fight left in it. If Novak takes 2 of the next 3 slams, and Nadal takes the French next year, that would put them tied at 21. I'd like to see a bit of continued batting at the top.
Yeah this is a good point, although the only real challenger for Roger was Rafa and the same can be said for Novax.
Sir Andy had he not got injured once he got to number 1 would have been interesting as he would have been the bigger rival on hard/grass for Novax - even if he did lose about 8 AO finals to him. Stan was always a danger as well once he hit 30 odd. Del Po/Söderling could have been that man as well in those times.
The annoying thing is, the that those are all over 30 and been at the top for well over a decade and there hasn't been a single player whose stepped up in that period.
Thiem, we seen get involved in a couple of finals then won one but hasn't done anything this year. Medv could be the guy if he can get a bit more consistency, I suspect he'll be targeting the US.
Tennis is going to be really bad in a few years.
There game should in theory get to a higher and higher level each and every year just due to the nature of modern sports science but we will see.
