"The Good" Draft Discussion "The Good" Draft Discussion

So, what does this draft even mean?
Courtesy of dictionary.com, "the good" means:

Quote:
47. the good,
a. the ideal of goodness or morality.
b. good things or persons collectively.
Essentially, you're building a world where you want to emphasize, maximize, and figurehead people, items, things, events, etc. where this definition fits. Imagine you have a fresh world, and you have 8 (or 10, depending on rounds) deities in a way. These are not "gods" in the mythological sense, but rather in the philosophic sense. Whatever brings utopia basically is the win.

Are we going to stress a winner?
Absolutely not. That said, I imagine there will be banter over how good something is. As in, if you stress "penguins", how much happier/moralistically advanced/good is that society? Clearly there are many objects or things that may work very well with another - but there are also some things that probably should not be paired!

If someone wants there to be an actual winner, at the conclusion of the draft I'll make a top 5 and bottom 5 worlds, projecting a society/framework of civilization according to the best definition I can fathom - which is, where would I most like to live?

Although this is open-ended, there are some rules!
1. A writeup for each pick is essential. If you do not make a writeup, you cannot pick. There will only be 7 rounds, each writeup is pretty vital to your world. Pictures, charts, stats - all these things are fantastic and optional, too.
2. I'm going to implement a simple 24hr. time limit on each pick in the 1st round. Similar to other drafts though, if you ARE online when it's your turn, it is highly recommended you make a pick. The 2nd round+ will revert to a 12hr time limit.
3. If a rule is not explained fully or there is some debate, my word is final.
4. Intangible things are not draftable. For those of you who need further explanation, "love" is fantastic. The idea behind love in any society would most likely promote "the good". But, you can't draft it. That said, "events" ARE draftable.
5. All modern and historical people are draftable. Fictional beings are draftable on the tangible scale. Meaning, Jesus is allowable; God in the Judeo-Christian sense is not.
6. If you draft an object - one of the examples from the waitlist thread was Vodka - this does not mean no other society will have vodka. However, the idea of vodka, and therefore the feelings/ideology behind that, would only be attained by your society.
7. Since this is a very deep draft, simple snake draft works out fine. Draft order will obviously be randomized.
8. There will likely be 25 worlds, although I wouldn't mind pushing it to 30 if there is a ton of interest. Co-owners are encouraged, too.

Man, 20 is weird. On the one hand, I'm worried I won't get anything I want; on the other hand, this draft is so open-ended that I could easily land two of my top items.

I think there's a clear #1, or at least, a #1 I would snap take given the opportunity

This is going to be a sick draft with many facemelters, guaranteed.

I'm so clueless and pick third. I'm interested in trading back potentially, or if someone just wants to chat a little PM me.

Debo, also get a hold of me obv.

Depending on the top 2 picks, I may be willing to trade draft positions with you(straight trade of all my picks for all of yours). I may also be interested in this with anyone who picks #4-10 too.

1. I know what my pick would be at #1. This will be interesting.
2. I'm interested if either Bobbo or Assani have participated in this draft before.

I think there is a very, very clear number one pick, and after that I have no clue.

I have the first overall pick...and tbh, I have no clue who the first overall pick should be.

With that said, I think my pick is going to be a pretty obvious pick...but will prolly be heavily scrutinized.

Gimme some time to finish the writeup.

Should there be a "Picks Only Thread"???

I think it would be cool to see all the writeups in one thread altogether, eventually...so we dont have to sift through this about-to-be huge thread.

No, but I have observed an "evil" draft before. I'm definitely one of the most unsure participants in this draft though.

I think that I've only participated in 3 drafts ever outside of this forum...one was a NBA draft, one was a desert island movie draft, and one was a desert island album draft.

I have not. Assani gave me the idea when he told me about the "all evil draft". so I thought of "the good draft", and I subsequently have had some time to think. I think there is a clear #1; I also think there are a bunch of things I want, but I'm not sure how receptive people will be to them. (but i think they are incredible)

I've tried to answer questions as well as best I can about this draft, clearly it's open-ended - which is some of the fun anyway - but i also dont want to show my hand

Yes, good idea. Post your pick here and also the picks only, I'd like the picks only thread to stay in order

Oh, and I think this is clear (but bares repeating) talking about undrafteds is a warnable offense which could lead to temp whatevers. there are a ton of facemelters and great value picks; let's not blow it for others.

I def think there's a clear #1 pick, but then again, I may be totally wrong once I see how it goes.

I am now curious as to if all of us "clear #1 pick" people have the same one in mind

Same, stuff like that is scaring me because my only thought right now is to see what's being picked and think relatively.

opened thread to see the first couple picks.

see my name on the list with bowens, and think, 'oh ****, i DID say i'd co-own, didn't i?'

then i think, '**** me, WHY ARE WE LAST???!!?'

perfect actually, because i really have no idea yet, and seeing 26 picks play out (with the discussion, which could end up legendary) will help.

in the last 30 seconds, i've had TONS of ideas already though based on:

Whatever brings utopia basically is the win.
and

this could end up epic, or completely awful...i'm leaning epic, if only because i'll spend all afternoon thinking about pairing up our 1st/2nd back to back picks.

C'mon WW, we all need to discuss if we all have the same consensus #1 pick. GOGOGO
