Hardy just looks like he's randomly throwing **** against the wall and hoping that he ends up with at least one spot that looks cool before the match is done. RVD's multiple finishers and incredible leaping ability (Van Terminator anyone?) also make him a superior high-flyer to Jeff Hardy. On in-ring ability, it's really not even close between the two of them.
Completly disagree. Hardy has gotten much better, hes amazing in the ring, his mic skills are weak, but in the ring he is phenomnal. He is a bit of a spot monkey, but all his spots are so good it doesn't matter.

His death had a lot to do with the wrestling culture at the time. Most wrestlers worked long hours, constantly travelled and were being fed a combination of alcohol, painkillers and cocaine. There are a lot of wrestlers who should have died but didn't. I don't think David Von Erich was that different from a lot of guys, he just suffered the most. Closest comparison I can think of is Len Bias.

The rules in the OP are silly IMO.It is reasonable to assume that if a wrestler had personal problems, or was injury prone his career should be shorter. This is different from looking at the length of a wrestler's career and assuming that's how long it would be in all hypothetical situations. If that's how the draft is done it is an excercise in ranking who has had the best careers in pro wrestling history, which is pretty boring.

Somewhere in there, you need a heel/tweener who's credible on his own. Don't like the pick at all.
JBL is fine, great on the mic, and he used to be a good worker in the ring before he was injured. Remember when he was just Bradshaw?

A guy like AJ or Daniels I think can potentially do both so I'm fine with them going early, but Malenko and Storm are pretty one-dimensional and honestly, I don't think they're any better in the ring than Daniels anyway.
Sid is soild pick, only problem with him is that he's crazy IRL.

DDP is a 8.5/10, not my favourite guy but great value this late, especially given some of the other people who have been drafted.

Chrisitan is a great pick as is sgt slaughter.

I don't know much about Chris Daniels, AJ styles. Semi-familiar with them but not enough to comment.

Lance Storm/Malenko are brutal picks. You probably could have had them in a few rounds and there are so many better people on the board.

There is one guy on the board who should have been a first round pick IMO and is way ahead of everyone else. Shocked he hasn't been picked yet.

I'm not nearly as high on Sid as everyone else. I mean, I guess he was a legit main event guy, so theres value in that. But other than looks, I feel like he pretty much sucks at everything.

imo it took a bit longer than it should for AJ and Daniels to get drafted. Unless your promotion is overstocked with inactive giants, these guys are beasts. The only reason they're not top 10 pics is that the WWE is too dumb to sign them. In the hands of any intelligent booker, these are superstars.

+1.

When we're creating our own hypothetical fed with completely different circumstances, it seems silly to assume that career length is going to be exactly the same no matter what. The Owen situation was so ridiculous that everyone pretty much agreed that it didn't apply there but it's a good example of something that was a total fluke that would never have happened if he was wrestling elsewhere.

Discouraging steroid use could counteract a lot of the major issues and with guys like RVD, I think it's extremely likely that he would have stuck around if he was booked differently. And assuming that Benoit's going to kill his family before you draft him is downright creepy.

Such a joke that he never got a bigger push. He should have been a multiple-time WWF Champion.

I know, it's disgusting that guys like UNDRAFTED, UNDRAFTED, and UNDRAFTED got pushes but this guy didn't. He really was perfect. Great wrestler, great on the mic, hilarious angle, good promos. Perfect.

They went a little low, probably should have gone at the start of the 3rd round but saying they should have gone Top 10 is really pushing things. That's reserved for guys like Angle/HBK/Hart who not only were the total package in terms of being able to perform in the ring and on the mic, but also had the size and the "look" that makes them instantly credible in the main event with new fans watching for the first time.

Also, if you really want to nitpick AJ, his face mic skills aren't quite superstar caliber either. Not that he doesn't deserve to be a face champion in TNA, but if you have your choice of all the people in wrestling history, you'd want to build around someone else as your top draw and leave AJ as the funny heel in the upper midcard that pops into the main event occasionally and maybe gets a title reign here and there.

He wasn't active long enough. He arrived (returned) in the WWF in the fall of 1988. By the fall of 1991, he was injured and working as a commentator and Ric Flair's executive consultant.

That period had Savage-Hogan-Warrior-Slaughter-Hogan as champions.

When he came back from injury, he only lasted a year before disappearing again.

OH- I'm not saying they should be top 10, I'm saying that if Vince was smart enough to sign them years ago, they could have been.

I would have picked them well above people like JJ, Booker, etc though.

I feel this way about a bunch of guys from the 80s/early 90s. Thats what happens when guys like Hogan monopolize the title scene so much....it doesn't leave any room to give all of the deserving top mid level talent a run at main event status, so we never get to find out if they could've made it or not.

The funny thing is that once the Monday Night Wars started, both federations went way too far in the opposite direction by having the title change way too frequently. But they would do anything for ratings, and title matches with a legit change of having a title change were great for ratings.

I don't watch wrestling today, so I don't know how much thats changed. But during my viewing time, I never did think they found the appropriate balance.

I'm willing to give guys like Owen the benefit of the doubt for sure. But I think its too much speculation to assume that discouraging steroid use would have a huge effect. Steroid use is still rampant in many major sporting leagues that heavily discourage its usage. When theres millions of dollars at stake, these guys will do anything they can to get an edge. And considering these were the wrestlers who abused steroids so bad in real life that it led to a tragedy, I'm not willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that this would stop them from using.

Amusing note: I was thinking about how insane it is how much time I've wasted today posting in this thread and decided to check where I ranked in terms of who had posted most here. I was thinking to myself "I know that logically there's no way I'm top 5, but I've posted so much I kinda feel like there's a shot." When I actually checked it, I was 20th. Not even close to average, LOL.
