Belated write-up for Lesnar (Round 2, #42 overall):
After a number of my preferred choices flew off the board earlier in the second round, Lesnar was the obvious choice (imo) at #42. Though his career in the WWE was short-lived, Lesnar made an indellable impact as one of the best all-around big men in the company's storied history.
The Look:
This dude was straight freakish:
6'2'', 300 lbs., with giant' weird animal tats all over his upper body. Add in a fire hydrant head and canned ham fists and Lesnar actually looked like as if he would snap someone in half (in after Bob Holly). What I thought was kinda an interesting dynamic about Lesnar's size was that he appeared to be sooooooo much bigger than he really was. True, TV makes people/things look bigger anyway, but having seen Lesnar in person and up close twice, I can personally attest to the fact that the man is a rhinocersis.
The In-Ring Product:
When thinking of your favorite big man ask yourself this: How many of his matches looked the same start to finish? No two of Lesnar's matches were identical due in large part to his seemingly limitless moveset. Instead of slowing down speedier, more athletic wrestlers like Angle, Benoit, and Guererro, Lesnar was able to easily keep pace and give the fans an intriguing scientific match with a mix of brawling. Brock's obvious stregnth, natural athleticism, and deceptive speed all blended together to form a super athlete capabale of pulling off almost any manuever (Yes, he can actually hit the shooting star press). Towards the end of Lesnar's career, he had an excellent series of matches with Kurt Angle including the WM 19 classic. Brock's feud with the Big Show was probably the 500 pounder's best big man feud of his WWE career.
Mic Skills:
I rate Lesnar about a C+ in this category. Paul Heyman was his manager early on for a reason: Lesnar couldn't properly promote himself and rather than having another mouth-drooling big man ruin his rep., Vince paired him with an accomplished promoter that could adequetly make Lesnar's name household. After Lesnar went solo and was given more solo promo opportunities, I really felt that he grew in this category. Sure, his talking abilities were a far cry from Austin's, The Rock's, Triple H, or even Kurt Angle, but they weren't terrible and it showed that he had personality which we all know is key to character development.
Roster to date:
Stone Cold Steve Austin
