Goldberg's career was too short to go much higher than he was, but he's a favorite of mine. He's the reason I got back into wrestling for a while and his match against Hogan was the 2nd most epic of all time in terms of plot.

definetly agreed. They are kinda cut from teh same cloth, and I could imagine that Edge would do a great job with the Mic work, and both would work real well together in the ring. Yea, I can see a lot of fun things coming from them, and a new sort of stampede style too

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

I'm kinda bummed over the Benoit pick to be honest, Wrane.

We'll see how it all unfolds, though. As long as he doesn't go off the board the next two picks I think our round 3 starter will be a hit.

If you're talking the televised Nitro match, this was something we discussed.

Granted, it was Atlanta, but that place was ****ing hot that night. I remember marking out hardcore.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Having that match on Nitro was such a massive mistake by WCW IMO. But it was amazing.

That match should've headline a PPV. Prob. the biggest freebie in the 2000's.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Easily the biggest freebie.

EDIT: Although it was in the late 90s.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

lol, my bad. I honestly thought people would love him. He was one of my faves to watch. His toothless screams, no fear body dives, suplexes.

I found a writeup at a website (can't say, there's a list of 50 top wrestlers) and Benoit was at #8. Guy's writeup...

Quote:
#8: Chris Benoit

"The Crippler", "The Rabid Wolverine", "Pegasus Kid" (Japan and Mexico)
Finisher: The Crippler Crossface, Diving headbutt

Chris Benoit is simply the best wretler competing today. He will go down as one of the greats, and rightfully so. His WrestleMania win this year was the greatest moment ever in sports entertainment. I first caught wind of Benoit during his ECW days. He was part of the Triple Threat along with Shane Douglas and Dean Malenko. While there he won his first major American title, winning the Tag belts. He also broke Sabu's neck in a brutal match earning him the nickname: "The Crippler". Benoit moved onto WCW and found his niche in The Four Horsemen. At the time it was Benoit, Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, and Steve "Mongo" McMichael. Not exactly the greatest group of Horsemen, but a solid start. Benoit is not known for his stellar mic work, so it was fine for him to have Flair and Anderson yak away for fifteen minutes. While in the Horsemen, reality found its way into the ring again. Booker Kevin Sullivan's wife, Nancy Sullivan (Woman) and Benoit got involved. Having an affair with your booker's wife doesn't endear you much. Sullivan used this opportunity to book stiff matches with Benoit at PPV after PPV. These two were damn near killing each other. The feud ended when Sullivan left WCW for greener pastures. After the nWo came on the scene and effectively killed the Horsemen, Benoit went his own way and began carving out a niche in the TV title ranks. He and Booker T had a series of thrilling matches over the title, and made the belt that much more important.

However, Benoit found himself on the treadmill once again. He stalled for a long time picking up a few US titles and a tag title. He was never given a chance to win the Gold. The arguement was always his size. He finally did win the World strap in 1999, but vacated the belt and left WCW the following day. He, Eddie Guerrero, Perry Saturn, and Dean Malenko all jumped ship the same day and wound up in the WWF as The Radicalz. Benoit was the first to shine as he captured the IC strap at WrestleMania 2000 (16). He was given a World title push against The Rock in 2000, but he suffered a severe injury (a vertebre that fused in his spine) had him sit out for about a year. He returned...and found himself firmly on the WWF treadmill. It was not until this year that he was given a chance to wear the gold. His year saw him start off by winning The Royal Rumble. For years the winner recieves a shot at the World title...but, nows there's two titles. Well, there's one World title and one WWE title. Um...yeah...so...I hate the brand extension.

Anyway, Benoit wanted a shot at the World champion. But, the World Champion is on RAW and he was on Smackdown. He just jumped ship and challenged Triple H to a match at WrestleMania. For reasons of keeping this limited in scope, I will not go on about how Shawn Michaels got involved in this thing. Suffice it to say that Benoit won the title match at WretleMania.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Dnky, I kinda doubt it.

Wrane, Benoit will work out OK but I think we lost some value at that spot compared to Piper, who I think would have been the best pick there (and I would have missed it and picked Steamboat).

I'm going to stay up for another hour, if our pick comes up I'll get it in, if not it'll have to wait for tomorrow morning because I have a hard track workout bright and early and need some sleep.
