Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Are you gonna keep Warrior from running to the ring and gassing himself?

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

As far as I can tell:

PWI wrestler of the year is more based on storyline success. WON wrestler of the year is more based on workrate. Both are based on value to the company.

They also don't have Paul Heyman trying to run the business side.

^BING BING BING BING BING. PWI isn't much, Meltzer pulls no punches and there is a reason that he is pretty much the only credible Wrestling reporter out there(and a damn good MMA reporter too, but that may be due to my own Meltzer bias of having subscribed to WON off and on for 12 years)

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

I know Warrior can't wrestle at all, but he was so ridiculously popular for a couple of years. We're talking Austin popular or Rock popular. He was just enormous.

His lack of wrestling ability/ability to talk obviously kept him out of the first round, but at this point I think he's fine.

Irrational Ultimate Warrior hate ITT. The guy was HUGE HUGE HUGE. He's great value at this point. Hell, I still see people with Ultimate Warrior costumes every Halloween. People are seriously overrating wrestling ability and underrating everything the ability to be a star. The latter is a much bigger deal, especially early in the draft.

Yeah, but what's more criminal: running a very successful brand name into the ground or being a sexual predator?

A lot of people think there were because during one of his comebacks he wasn't as huge as before and had some kind of painted on muscles to make him look bigger. But it was still him.

PWI is a mark magazine. Apter keeps to Kayfabe. WON doesn't just focus on workrate, but the overall impact the guy has to a company

this helps any promotion. Have Heyman as close to the booking as possible, and as far away from the money as possible=success

I just really liked the ridiculous contrast between Undertaker and Ultimate Warrior.

The problem is that he ONLY provides you value as a short term mega-star. His peak is what, two or three years tops?

He has zero other skills. He can't talk. He can't wrestle. If there's anyone that loses a ton of value from not having Vince McMahon around, it's him.

obv being a pedophile.

that said, roh management(cary silken, very good man) has alot of uphill battle to fight right now. dgusa is really starting to take off, alot of top of the line guys are/have moved on. they lost there booker about a year ago.

im as big a roh fan as you will find, but im also a realist. the next year will be very important in not only how big roh will be, but also if it survives at all.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

dnky,

What did you think of the Larry Sweeney blowup this past year? What did you hear about it from the ROH/wrestling community side?

I actually know the guy personally (we lived together the summer before he went to wrestling school, actually) and have been told about his whereabouts over the past six months or so. PM me if you're interested in the story.

Why are people assuming that actual career = career in this draft? That's not how it works. One of McMahon's biggest mistakes was how he handled the Ultimate Warrior situation. Most of the time, he's going to be a star for many, many years.

no, he's not huge. He had a good run with the Vince marketing force behind him and Hogan putting him over. He's pure crap in the ring and on the mic. Seriously, he makes John Cena look like a Dusty Rhodes/Thesz hybrid. His run in WCW as the Renegade was pure crap and all of his subsequent runs as Ultimate Warrior in the WWF were utter crap. he shouldn't be drafted at all

He can get kind of whacky (this can't be too much of a surprise from anyone who's read WON), but he's got so many contacts in the MMA world and he does a good job of PPV modeling that he does with wrestling.
