Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

There's a bunch of good, eligible Japanese guys. Most aren't good picks yet though.

Kensuke Sasaki or Morishima? I don't think that either of them could really be drafted becuase they didn't spend enough time in the US. There's really only one Japanese monster star that would be a legit draft pick because he had an extended run in the US and won a decent belt, and was pushed fairly well in the US
morishima dident work for a us company????

he was the ROH world champion for about 6 months. works for me imo

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Man, I missed a ton this afternoon.

I love the Mr. Perfect pick since he was probably my favorite wrestler all time. While I don't like Cena I think he was fantastic value.

No picks that I really hate too much, I really like the Steamboat pick FWIW as well.

right, and most of them are Jrs. There have only been a handful of HWs that have won decent titles in the US for any decent or major promotion (which IMO is a serious problem with a lot of domestic bookers)

ROH isn't a major company.

I think RoH works on some level. Obviously Claudio Castagnoli shouldn't be even close to drafted, but there have been some guys through there that deserve to be drafted. Plus, the RoH title is recognized as a world title. I thought that Morishima may have had a quick cup of tea in TNA also. I remember them bringing in Shunske Nakamura once or twice, and I think they brought in Tanahashi a couple times too

I think we'll need some sort of clarification for japanese wrestlers and mexican wrestlers(though this is less of a problem) as to how much time is needed to have been spent in the US/Stampede to fully count

This was actually Jim Herd, who fired Flair while he was the champion. Flair thought he owned the physical NWA Championship belt at the time, and sent it to Vince McMahon. Vince showed the NWA championship on WWF TV and all hell broke loose in WCW.

ECW had a cable deal on a legit cable channel (I love HDNet, but they're not comparable). ECW made a huge push into the wrestling mainstream.

ROH, imo, is still a niche promotion. It doesn't have the same level of penetration that ECW had.

Heenan's Big Announcement

This was just stunning. There was no warning. It was just added on to the end of an episode of the syndicated Wrestling Challenge.

they definitely aren't on the level of ECW, but Meltzer has generally declared that the RoH belt is a World Title, so RoH work does merit some consideration, though obviously not factored in as much as TNA, ECW, WCW, and WWf(E)

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

During the time there were 3 promotions, ECW was something that everybody liked to say they'd watched and knew a lot about when really only the most hardcore fans had ever even seen it other than maybe one or two matches. From what I remember they were way less hardcore after actually getting a TV show and their TV show was really bad imo. Now we can go back on the internets and watch the early days which definitely featured some badass stuff, but we couldn't then. Seriously nobody except the hardcore internet fans or people living in the NE were into ECW before they got on TV though.

Agreed, they would have had such a sick feud together when Undertaker first started.

Me and ajohnson16 are discussing our pick and it should be up in a bit.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

wow, warrior=insanely bad

don't really know what to say other then that

Dynasty, IRT Flair with the NWA belt, it was technically his at the time. Champions were made to take out a 25K bond on the belt and carried it on themselves. So, while the NWA controlled it in one sense, Flair also had the rights to it in another, so he was legally fine in bringing it to WWF, but the NWA belt was a trademarked logo, so the WWF couldn't show the belt and had to blur it

at that time, tnn was not exactly was spike is today. tnn signed ecw for 1 year, to test the waters for wwe to move in the next year. tnn used ecw horribly.

hdnet is behind roh. id rather have the hdnet deal that roh has than the tnn deal that ecw had.

both had ppvs. true that ecw had live ppvs and roh had taped ones. in terms of presentation, ecw had the edge. in terms of matches, roh had the edge.

roh is right now was ecw was back in the day

Any schmo can win PWI wrestler of the year. It takes an uncommonly good guy to win WON wrestler of the year. Hogan and Sting never won it, but Flair won it eight times.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

its hard to really compare RoH and ECW in a sense. RoH has learned from the faults of ECW and has built slower and has been based on a different model. Both have positioned themselves as an alternative, but I think that RoH may have more legs in the long run based on the model which they've set for themselves to be profitable, or at least are running break even
