Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

deezy and I pick:

Spoiler:

will do a full write up when I get back from class. we're obviously taking the monster heel from the 70s with the NWA belt Funk, not the garbage wrestling funk. basically we wanted someone to work a top program with eddie. Someone else came to mind here, but I just don't think he'd work a great program with eddie

Since the rules state that he will be as popular now as he was then that means he just drafted the biggest star and the biggest money draw from the 60s AND 70s.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Bruno's a great pick, and someone I was interested in pre-draft. I have a hard time drafting someone I haven't watched though.

I actually really, really like the Funk pick. ****, I'd even take late-career Funk over a whole lot of guys.

I'm almost certain Andre was a bigger money draw in the 70s. But, point taken.

not exactly. Bruno is in that league, but there are a couple of guys who did really big gates in georgia, florida, and st louis during that time that are still available

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

I was going to work on a Bruno write-up but the info in his Wiki page is pretty much his life story and much better than what I could provide so if you are interested here's the link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruno_Sammartino

We took Bruno to provide a strong face challenger to Andre to provide what Dids was talking about in that Andre is so dominant that it's almost a detriment. We need a really strong face challenger for him, a guy that you would buy the idea that he could beat Andre. Also nobody in the history of pro wrestling had a longer "prime". Obviously working matches is not a problem.

And yeah, our fed is gonna be different, so be prepared yo.

Wasn't expecting the pick run. ST and I didn't discuss round 2 at all. I have to go to the doctor in a little bit too. Give us a bit.

But those areas are not the northeast and the biggest money has always been there. I'm not really sure if Bruno outdrew Andre, but here's an interesting fact:
Quote:
Sammartino finds Hulk Hogan's claim in his autobiography that he and André the Giant were the reason for the Shea gate to be humorous.[5] The feud between Sammartino and Undrafted sold out everywhere they wrestled leading up the show. Hogan and André wrestled in White Plains, New York, drawing 1,200 in a building that held 3,500 as the main event before they wrestled at Shea.

Hell, wiki pages might be the easiest way for Orton/Benoit writeups.

Orton: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Orton
Benoit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Benoit

Andre can be both a face and a heel, and can do both well.

As a side note, anyone unfamiliar with Kenta Kobashi really should go to Youtube, punch his name in and watch a few of his matches. They're amazing.

Damnit, really wanted Mr. Perfect. Love those old videos with him throwing footballs to himself and whatnot.

Looks like I'm kind of on the same mindset about who's good to pick as most of the people in this. I kind of figured there would be more older guys going earlier.

On January 18, 1971, Sammartino lost the championship at Madison Square Garden to Ivan Koloff. The crowd was so stunned into silence that Sammartino thought his hearing had been damaged. After the pin, Koloff slowly walked across the ring while the ref raised his hand three times. The announcer came into the ring with the belt but did not present it to Koloff. Koloff left the ring while Sammartino stayed inside to keep the crowd's attention off Koloff. As Sammartino left the ring, people started crying. Sammartino has said that the crowd's reaction disturbed him while he sat in the dressing room after the match.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

OK, sorry guys. I was the one pushing for Inoki. Did not know the idea was to be a mainly North American draft (i missed the sign-up thread). We will go with our other choice.
I was informed of this right after I finished typing up this summary, so I think I'm going to post it anyway, because Inoki had a crazy career and it took a long time to write.

***THIS IS NOT A PICK***

Inoki had a really cool career. Here's a quick summary of Inoki's career highlights:

Antonio Inoki is the single embodiment of Japanese wrestling more than anyone else. He founded New Japan Pro Wrestling in 1972, which is still the most popular wrestling company in Japan nearly 40 years later. Inoki has many impressive feats including:

- A win for the WWWF championship over UNNAMED
- At least one submission victory over Andre the Giant
- At least one pinfall victory over Hulk Hogan
- Winning the NJPW Tag Team Tournament twice with Hulk Hogan as his partner (!)
- He invented the Fighting Spirit Slap. People regularly walk up to him on the street and ask him to slap them in the face. PIMP.
- Hulk Hogan wrestled Mr T. Antonio Inoki wrestled Muhammad Ali. The Ali camp was afraid that Inoki was going to turn the match into a MMA fight, so they demanded a rules change to protect Ali.
- He once wrestled UNNAMED on a deserted island for 2 hours. Just him, his opponent, and the cameras.
- Inoki's retirement match in the Tokyo Dome drew 70,000+ people, breaking an attendance record.
- Member of the inaugural Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame class.
- Member of WCW Hall of Fame, even though he never worked for that company.
- Eventually elected a congressman in Japan. Met with Saddam Hussein to negotiate the release of prisoners from Iraq. Was the first Western/Democratic government official to have a political meeting with Fidel Castro.
- Very long career, spanning 30+ years.
- After his wrestling and political careers, he started his own promotion called the "Inoki Genome Federation". He was such a legend that he put his own name in the name of company.
- The first IGF main event was UNNAMED vs Kurt Angle for the IWGP championship that UNNAMED had stolen 2 years prior. Only Inoki had the behind-the-scenes connections to promote this match.

So, even though we took it back, I hope someone learned about a great career.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Sorry for the delay guys, while you're waiting: my write-up for the 17th overall pick. (This was our first pick, we're still working on our second round pick.)

With the 17th overall pick, Scary_Tiger and MikeyPatriot select:
