Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Yeah VKM character is legit but this really depends on who youre able to pair with him in the next rounds else the feuds wont work.

Hey, fun thread lads. Kudos.

(remember LuckyLloyd in the Hollywood Draft??)
It's not really the same thing though. If I had the no.1 pick in the Hollywood draft I'd have taken Speilberg irrespective of what my favourite films are. Picking late in the first round, I made a conscious decision to put together a studio tailored to make very specific sorts of films (it's unfortunate that the thing evaporated before we got to the film concept section). If someone late in the first round of this thing decides to pick wrestlers so that he (I assume there are no women in this ) can create a very specific type of promotion that focuses on a certain aspect of pro wrestling, that's one thing.

What's going on here is passing on the G.O.A.T because he was around before your time / because you just didn't like his personal life / whatever. It's the equivalent of drafting Lawrence Taylor no.15 in a hypothetical "Greatest NFL Defensive players of all time" draft because he did drugs.

I think Vince McMahon was sick value where he went. Hogan is undoubtably the best wrestler available, but taking the brains of the whole industry ahead of him would have made a ton of sense.

Theres a wrestler that I know is going to fall and I will defend whoever picks him vehemently when they do. One of the only guys left who you can build a promotion around and uber underrated.

I love RVD, but he's a huge reach here. And he's not nearly as good a worker as CM Punk. And that's all I'll say on that.

Bah theme would've been nice for that one. I'm pretty sure Mikey's still logged in (based on his profile) so I'll let him make his team's pick. I'm headed to bed.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

OK I lied to stay up just to see if this actually went through. I might be totally leveling myself, but this is a very interesting pick and my initial reaction is to dislike it. I figured Dibiase would be a late second/early third round pick, but I'd like to hear others' input.

Dibiase was awesome on the mic but in my limited experience watching his big matches, none stand out as anything special. From what I recall, he had pretty good ring psychology but nothing to write home about.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

there's one guy that's just sprung to mind that could, imo, be drafted now very easily seeing how most of the top tier have gone, but would probably be labelled a reach by a ton of people. just making a note to myself, will pm people if anyone wants to see if i'm bonkers

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

People are really overrating the depth if they think Dibiase or Punk would be a late second early third round pick. I think Dibiase is fine value here probably the best heel available.

If you're basing his in-ring work on his big WWE main events, you're punishing him for having to wrestle a very specific style. Go youtube some of his older work or the stuff he did in All-Japan.

The dude being named best WON Technical Wrestler in the early 80s should say a lot about him.

Also, with a lot of the superstar faces off the board, I feel it's important to build your promotion off a great heel. A babyface benefits from a great heel. I don't think it works the other way around.

Hm. Maybe I am wrong on Dibiase. I thought Punk was kind of a reach but figured he'd be late R1/early R2. Would love to think about this stuff some more but I really, really need to get some sleep. But between this and CBB marathon its soooooo difficult.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

I had Jericho as my BPA. Dibiase I would have waited on for a few more picks but he's a great heel, a solid worker and it's not a big reach, if it's even a reach at all.

If my pick gets taken in the next two I'm gonna be pretty mad because I just spent an hour on the write-up.
