this roster is the **** IMO. Johnson and Atlas have done a great job of evening out the face/heel balance and there's a lot of different matches that you can create

I think initially I might go with face Flair. Face Flair can feud with Race and Bockwinkel for awhile while I build up either Johnson or Atlas to take the title from Flair after an eventual heel turn. After watching a lot of Rocky Johnson I really believe he was in the wrong era and that he would be the best to push hard. He had the charisma, the look, and the wrestling ability to be a world champion. I truly believe it simply never happened because of his skin color.

George "The Amimal" Steele

WWE Hall of Fame, Class of 1995[/QUOTE]

One of my all time favourites. I could never get enough of him chewing off the turnbuckle

its a sad and unfortunate fact. He was one of the pioneers for black wrestlers, but that also meant him getting screwed over. Him, Sailor Art Thomas(yea, I know undrafted, but I doubt he'd get drafted anyway) and Undrafted (only saying this guys as undrafted because there is a likelyhood he gets drafted) were a couple of the few black wrestlers who broke the mold of doing headbutts and acting like animals in teh ring, and instead being, ya know, real people

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

I've never thought the racism argument had much merit, at least in the WW(W)F.

McMahon Sr. put his belt on Pedro Morales, a Puerto Rican, for three years.

Sammartino himself was very ethnic (Italian) and I'm sure there was plenty of anti-Italian feeling left over in the 60s.

Before Johnson and Atlas won the tag team titles, Sonny King (a black guy) was 1/2 of the WWWF tag team champions in 1972.

Bando,

That's an incredible angle shoot and really goes against the spirit of this draft. I'll allow the picks since this is almost over, but congrats on making two douchey picks.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I wasn't referring to his pre-Stone Cold days as a heel. I was referring to his heel turn much later on after he was already over huge.

Wrestling perspective commented on this as a reason why they didn't have him in their top 33 wrestlers of all time(FWIW they put hogan at #5 of all time):

Quote:
STEVE AUSTIN

A decent worker slowed over the years by injuries, he was headed to Mid-Card Land until he changed his image and became a fan favorite with an angle right out of a Johnny Paycheck song.

Although he is proof that wrestling could survive in popularity without Hogan at the helm, he owes his success in very large part to the help of Vince McMahon.

His drawing power remains strong, but not as good as when he was the Johnny Paycheck character versus the Boss From Hell, Mr. McMahon. He is said to be the biggest moneymaker in the history of the promotion, but Austin peaked after a couple of years and is clearly on the downswing. In large part this is due to injuries and a rotating character. Fans just didn’t take to Austin as a heel, whereas the change of style injected new life into Hogan’s character.

Austin’s t-shirts remain popular among fans and non-fans alike, mainly because he unveils a new design every so often.

Yeah, you might get less time with him but he was obviously the best while he was there.

Also, while I know this technically isn't supposed to be considered, there's no way that The Rock can get popular enough to leave unless he's in a huge national fed. So basically, your federation will have succeeded against all the other feds and bought them out if this even becomes an issue in which case he's a great pick. If he doesn't single-handedly take your fed to the top, you should get to keep him into his 40s.
Theres way too much information we don't know for you to make these claims. Maybe Hogan had similar movie offers but turned them down to remain in wrestling. Maybe Rock actively sought out these movie offers because he didn't desire to remain in wrestling forever.

In the end, we have definitive proof that Hogan will be around for the entire 30 years in our federation. We don't have anywhere close to that for Rocky.

Not to mention that Hogan was undoubtedly the #1 guy in the #1 federation for years and years. During Rock/Austin's peak, its arguable that they were only in the #2 federation(for some of their peak at least) and its obviously arguable that neither has a legit claim to being the #1 guy due to the presence of the other.

Honestly, I don't even think its all that close. I think this is like comparing Michael Jordan to Kobe Bryant. Hogan simply blows both of them away.

I wasn't really referring to the WWF. McMahon certainly was willing to push minorities, but he was also working with a northern crowd, unlike Rocky who spent most of his career in the south. I can't really think of any black NWA wrestlers that got a big push.

I don't think its really that bad of an angle shoot, so long as we all agree that he isn't allowed to truly try to convince his fans that its the real Sting/Undertaker, at least not long term.

Fake Undertaker was a great angle until he actually had his match with the real Undertaker. That match was a snoozefest.

Agreed, he should be forced to use them in the way that the WWF used Fake Razor and Fake Diesel.
