oh well. that just means one more pick to go crazy with and piss off the 80s loving crowd even more.

I was sure you guys already had a trade made in advance and that's why they picked the second Bushwhacker.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

My schedule for the next few days is going to be pretty whack and I'm on tons of meds and ****, so if it's on me now or ever until the conclusion of the draft, just skip me and I'll make up the pics when I can. It won't be long or anything until I pick, just don't want to hold things up with the schedule I have coming up.

I do not agree as much as HBK is the man, he is not top 4 like the other guys and there is a legitimate dropoff after him. I know alot of people don't like Hogan cause he was so OVER, but cmon Austin might have been the most ridiculously over wrestler of all time for a 3-4 year period. Hogan at least looked the part, Hogan is still HUGE physically, and I think the anticipation of him going to TNA more than 27 years after his PEAK began is incredible. Lets see how much pub would be out there for Austin in 2024 or HBK in 2021

I thought you guys were leveling. That was right around the point where I stopped following that stuff at all. Seems like a lame ripoff of the NWO thing, but with more bad acting, no?

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

The Invasion storyline was stupid because there wasn't enough talent on the WCW side to make it interesting. Ideally, the main feud would've been something like Sting/Goldberg/DDP/Booker/Steiner vs Austin/Rock/Taker/Kane/Angle but it probably wasn't very cost effective or even possible for WWF to grab the biggest WCW stars. When you have to move WWF wrestlers to the "invading" side that pretty much means the whole angle is a bad idea.

Disagree. Rock, Austin, Hogan, I'll agree with. Rock/Austin had a higher peak than Hogan, but Hogan has longevity. Huge drop off from those 3 to Flair, then another huge dropoff to HBK. (The WWE was built around him when it failed badly.) He's simply not the draw that the other 4 were. HBK ahead of Hogan was Bowie over Jordan bad.

agreed. Sting was never gonna come to the WWF since he has hated vince for a very long time, but steiner and goldberg needed to be there. It wouldn't have been the most cost efficient move to buy out goldberg and steiner, but, having them would've given the WCW faction more legs and would've enabled them to do big big business. TBH I don't think that the angle was ever going to work well as Vince's ego was going to get in the way

I'm gonna have to vehemtely disagree irt flair. I can certailny see an argument for HBK not being in the group, but Flair was massive for a lot of people in the 80s and his decade was more dominant then hogan's was in the ring(I think flair didn't hold the NWA belt for less then a year in total days in the 80s). Flair and Hogan were directed towards different audiences, but between them in the 80s it isn't even 1 and 1a, its 1 and 1 and thinking otherwise is just ignoring how massive Flair was back then

How have you never heard of Gorgeous George? He's a pretty big name as far as pre-1980's go.

He's the #17 Greatest Wrestler of All Time in Meltzer's Wrestling Observer book, with #16 being The Rock. So obviously great value with pick #234, ultimately we crossed him off our board because we were looking for proven workers with video, with a preference towards face talent, but if I had realized he was still available in a double pick round I definitely would've wanted to take him. Didn't realize he would fall so far.

I'm guessing everyone in wcw was really lazy at this point and they didn't care if it made sense or not. Everyone had a guaranteed contract and the higher-ups had no control over them.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Hogan and Flair were both the obvious and undisputed top guy in their organizations for a very long time. Austin and Rock TOGETHER helped to bring about the WWE resurgence, and neither was the undisputed top guy for long at all. It seems that some people are trying to give both Rock and Austin full credit for leading the WWE back, but that's logically impossible. WWE 1999 may have been the highest peak in wrestling, but that does not mean Austin or Rock individually have the highest peak of any wrestler. Flair should be the #1 pick; best longevity, and made more other guys into stars then Rock/Austin/Hogan combined. Being able to get other guys over is so huge for an organization.

looks like steiner stiffed Nash pretty badly there. That was probably the finish, but Rick Steiner had been sloppy in the ring for a while at that point

I agree with a lot of this. The Rock and Austin were the most popular guys in the WWF's most popular era. That doesn't mean they were the most popular ever. That's bad logic.

It amazes me how underrated Hulk Hogan has become in this draft. No one has ever been bigger than Hogan, especially considering the mainstream public. Hulkamania lives forever, brother.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

I think Hogan/Flair/McMahon are in a clear top tier all by themselves. I don't think Rock/Austin are in that tier, mostly due to longevity. I think they belong in the next tier with guys like HBK/Hart/Undertaker/etc.
