The same Vince that still has Raw as the second highest cable show behind MNF? I realize most/all argue that the quality of the product has dropped which is ldo but he still brings in tons of money and crushes ratings.
But you're not drafting the WWE's brand recognition. If you just want a booker, guy to run the show- I think there are now plenty of people who know enough based on what Vince has done that they can do it without some of his terrible, terrible negatives.

I pretty much think that a good portion of this forum can out-book the folks working for the WWE at this point.

i don't know a ton about Angle since I stopped watching wrestling, but from everything I've read it seems like a really good pick

very good pick. kurt is the rare guy on this list thus far that is still able to produse 4 star out of 5 matches time in and time out(such as last night on the tna ppv) high workrate, very good on the mic.

when HBK won from the no1 slot, the run-in times were every 45 seconds or there about. He won the match in something like 36-40ish minutes. Flair won it from no4 and was in the match for over an hour

WCW was booking him to make the WWF look bad, that can be the only possible conclusion as they were handed a golden opportunity to utterly kill the WWF right there

not.even.close. Flair was the no1 guy in the world from basically 81-93 and was still putting in good matches until his retirement with the occasional great match. Everyone always got into him, because, well, there probably isn't much difference between ric flair and richard fliehr.

This was a guy that was one of the first to get a 1m contract from a company+ house % bonus' and ppv bonus'. He was also the first person to have won the legit versions of the WWF and NWA belt.

Outside of either Hogan, Austin, or Rock who could draw the numbers that Flair did?

honestly, there are better bookers then Vince. He's had some bit hits, but he's also grossly wasted talent. While he was booking some extreme highs, he has also been just as responible for some of the lows. Wrestling always goes through cycles, but lets also think of a lot of the bad gimmicks, storylines, and fueds that he's done

Angle is one of my all time favorites. The heel Olympic hero gimmick is maybe my favorite ever (The three I's still cracks me up) and he's a great worker.

Angle was great. Some of the backstage segments with Stone Cold in 2001 were hilarious and his matches were usually top quality.

re: vince mcmahon as booker:

he really does not/has never "booked" outright any of the shows. he had writers who do this for him. vince does have final say as to what happens, but to call vince the booker of the wwe is incorrect.

Kurt Angle is one of the rare guys on this list that is only a dozen years into his pro-wrestling career.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Calling Flair a reach is so lolbad I don't even know what to say. All things considered, the dude is EASILY the best American professional wrestler ever. He may not have the insane peak of a Hogan, Rock, or Austin (and, if we're being honest, all of those guys have a right place, right time quality to them), but he had such an insane longevity as the top guy in the NWA/WCW (and during his brief stint with the WWF in the early 90's).

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

My opinion on Vince is that he's an excellent business man who knows how to identify what the market wants and if this was "real" then he'd be the #1 choice for sure.

But in this draft, it's just hard to quantify exactly what he's going to do for your fed. Is his presence just going to make everyone better?
He's certainly not the best booker and his onscreen evil boss character needs the right type of talent to play off of in order to work.
Is he going to buy out the rest of our feds? Advertise more or something? Impose strict non-compete deals and fight against classifying the workers as "employees" to the bitter end?
I dunno, I think it's just a weird/different argument to make in this context because a lot of what he does to make the WWF successful isn't related to in ring/on screen product

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Anyone else kinda weirded out by how scratchy Angle's voice has gotten?
Compare the promos he did when he first showed up to the ones he does now and it sounds like he's had strep throat for a decade.

Small quibble though, Angle is sick. His Olympics story is pretty awesome by itself.

Yeah, I was trying to post something about this, but Onizuka sums it up well.

Vince's greatest feat was buying up tons of talent and getting the WWF national exposure in the early 80s, effectively killing the territories. AFAIK, Vince has never really showed any sort of genius in the book realm. And that's without considering the lack of success in any venture outside of the wrestling world.

IMO, the dude's a marketing genius and that's about it. Shirts, toys, video games, etc. Vince is fantastic at that. But look at how the WWF brought Austin in as the Ringmaster and Rock as Rocky Maivia, the blue chipper. Those characters, imo, eventually got over because of the organic process of the performers behind them. Austin took off because of an ad-libbed line following his KOTR win (and then the fantastic WM13 match with Bret Hart).

I obviously have no idea what I'm talking about but I was trying to get to that. I just don't see how VM tranlates to this draft. It's almost like draft an extremely elite coach/gm.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

There's really no need to put the write-ups in spoilers, not sure why people are doing that.

I think it's a little early for HHH, Untouchable and I talked about him going too early though, so others may disagree.
